Our favorite “date night” Japanese/Sushi place in Lex. Technically our first date night ever was here. One of the few places, if not the only place in Lexington, with ramen. Service is knowledgeable and kind and encourages exploratory dining. “Try something new.” Which we love doing. Plus fresh fish flown in twice a week from Toyosu Fish Market in Tokyo, the biggest fish market in the world. This place is the best!

Fantastic experience, from drinks to sushi to service. Not cheap, but also worth the price. If you're looking for fresh and authentic then you need to try this place.

Such a great spot! Adam our waiter was super attentive and accommodating. We stopped in slightly before closing and even tho the kitchen was shut down and sushi chef had gone the owner stepped in and made our last minute request herself! Loved the Zander, the Lavender drink is a must.

The staff here are so friendly, great atmosphere, and the sushi is excellent. Absolutely get the Belmont roll, the crunch on the shrimp tempura is amazing.

Amazing sushi that is so fresh and flavorful! I also tried the special fish (yellowtail ) that was imported from Japan and it was incredible. Our server was also superb and very knowledgeable! Can't wait to bring more friends back next time!

3rd time a charm. Actually the 4th time is as well. I have yet to have anything less than a excellent experience at Zen. The food is second to none and the staff is a perfect pairing. This last time I had the Bourbon Tso Chicken and the Incredible Roll. Just as my previous visits the food and staff were amazing. Without question I suggest you visit Zen Sushi & Sake. Even if you're across town, make the drive to insure you're not disappointed in your meal.

I remember coming here the first time, and I enjoyed their sushi and the house sake. I was thoroughly impressed the first time, so I brought my friend from Louisville for dinner on my recent visit this weekend. We sat by the front (facing the parking lot) and ordered food! We ordered two sets of Naruto, Zander, Oruka, Zero Se, Amazing Tuna, and Incredible? As for the sashimi, my friend ordered Beni Toro, Hamachi, and Maguro? We were so hungry and ordered whatever sounded good at that time. For drinks, we ordered house sake (all for me) and single plum (for my friend), and I ordered two lychee saketini (yummy drinks and strong, too). For dessert, we ordered the fried tempura--a must-have after your full dinner. Our server was excellent, and she took great care of us while we enjoyed our dinner *thumbs up* It is a decent sushi spot and has plenty of parking in the area.

A gem - authentic Japanese and even the uninitiated can tell the difference. Amazing sushi & fishes flown in from the best market in Tokyo. Even the miso soup and ginger salad is significantly better than any other around. Try this place - you’ll be back.

Food Fun Adventure Weekend ended with a trip back to Zen Sake & Sushi in Lexington. I highly encourage a reservation. I ordered A Single Plum cocktail. This is made with Choya Umeshu Sake, Tito's Vodka and a Japanese green plum. It was an interesting drink that was very sweet and could sneak up on someone if they have too many. We started with the Chicken Karaage. The chicken was fried perfectly although slightly bland. The sauce though was awesome. It was slightly sweet and spicy. The flavor that this sauce packs makes this a very enjoyable dish. I ordered a Woodford Old Fashion and the drink they brought me was essentially all bourbon again, but that is okay with me. The only roll that we got again was the Krispy Krunch, it is tempura fried roll that was warm and savory but not super crunchy. This is one of our favorites here. Moving forward we tried the Amazing Tuna. This is pepper tuna, Albacore tuna and spicy tuna. The tuna just melts, and the taste is fabulous. The sweet sauce over top cuts through the tuna and just makes it delicious. The next roll we tried was the Mango Tango. This has crab and avocado wrapped in soy paper topped with Yellow fin tuna, salmon and mangos. It is a bit of a weird texture to eat edible paper, tuna and fruit but when combined it just works. This is a tasty dish. The next stop on the sushi train was the Fancy Salmon. This combines salmon and spicy salmon in an avocado roll with spicy aioli. They mix in tempura flake to give it a crunch and texture. The aioli is not overly spicy but helps cut through the bite. The last dish we tried was Oruhka. This is tempura soft shell crab, eel tamago, avocado soy paper and eel sauce. The crouch of the tempura and the chew of the paper plus the soft omelet like texture of the tamago and the sweet eel sauce just makes for such a great dish. This is by far my favorite. Zen Sake & Sushi is fantastic. I can not recommend this place enough. Zen Sake & Sushi is Fat Man Approved and highly recommended.

This is definitely one of the best sushi places in Lexington. The atmosphere is fantastic, it’s classy and quiet and has nice decor. The sushi is on a different level than any other sushi restaurant I’ve been to in Lexington. The prices are high but the food is well worth it. The presentation is phenomenal and the taste is amazing. The fish used is definitely fresh and all the other ingredients are without a doubt high quality. Highly recommend

Where can I begin. The food was AMAZING. I’m posting the pictures and trust me, it was just as good as aesthetically pleasing. The atmoshphere is so relaxed and chill, it’s a perfect date spot or just a place to get away from the craziness outside. The owner was so kind and came and explained to my husband the difference between pozu and yuzu sauce. The cocktail recommendation was also fabulous. Hands down the best sushi place I’ve tried in central Kentucky and I’ve been to quite a few spots.

Delicious. We ordered the dumpling soup, king salmon nigiri, golden eye snapper nigiri and Krispy Krouch roll. I asked for my nigiri to be torched. Wonderful quality fish.

Im so full and so happy that I don’t think my brain can formulate enough thoughts to give ZEN Sushi & Sake the praise that it deserves. But I do know you need to go, like, now. Amazing drinks, mouth watering sushi, the best humans, 15/10 can not recommend more

Picked this place out because of its high reviews and I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED! This place has amazing food and atmosphere and a roll I’ve never had at any other sushi restaurant with seared steak on top! I ordered the fried cheesecake at the end and it was to die for 💀I wish I lived in Lexington because I would make this place a regular stop 😋

What a fantastic dining experience! Adam, our server is very knowledgeable and friendly and has loads of good suggestions. We appreciate it! Now the food, if you want a perfect meal look no further. Zen is my go-to from now on for Japanese. The best dumplings I've had hands down! Spicy tuna (suggested by Adam) was great! The amazing roll...amazing! The Bourbon Tso's out of this world! I couldn't be more pleased! Hats of to the chef and owner. You're simply incredible! Great job!

While in Lexington tooling around (great town!), we decided to find a nearby local sushi restaurant. We were very fortunate that Zen was 1st on the list. The service was excellent from the time we were greeted until we left….top notch. The food……mwah…..it was excellent. Easily the best sushi I’ve eaten. And it wasn’t outrageously priced. Yes, there were some chef specials that sounded scrumptious, but we opted to keep affordable, which can be easily accomplished here. If you love sushi and are in the area, do yourself a huge favor and stop here.

The food and service was phenomenal! We were worried about bringing our 2 small children but they were very accommodating. The tuna jowl and the sushi options were top notch. Thanks for the great dinner and memories! The sake in the photo was our favorite from the flight!

Brooke! We love you and your service! Especially when you noticed husband needed chop stick training wheels and brought them on the sly. Um yum yay good food and such engaging service. Thank you, Brooke for making our evening delightful!

We’ve visited multiple times across the last few years and the experience has always been incredible. One of my favorite places for an evening date and some of the best sushi in Lexington, as well as a wonderful selection of sake. This time, we ordered a volcano roll, dancing eel, and simple California maki (as well as ginger salads). The ginger salads are a particular favorite, one of the best takes on the dressing in my opinion.

This Japanese restaurant was delicious no matter what I ate. Happy hour menu was very reasonable. And the food was beautifully arranged. This time I was full and couldn't eat ramen so I would like to come again.

Second time experiencing the wonderful food and customer service by Adam. He went above and beyond to make my birthday wonderful. The food and service is exemplary. The tempura cheesecake and volcano roll are my favorites. We will be back! ♥️

Delicious sushi, excellent service and sake recommendations! Everything was very fresh. We got the chef's choice sashimi platter and the quality of the fish was fantastic and beautifully plated. Our waitress made a delicious sake recommendation that paired well with the sushi. The atmosphere was quiet and cozy. Would definitely recommend this restaurant!
