After spending a few days with bourbon and fusions we wanted something less... complicated. This was PERFECT & 100% hit the spot. We (of course) ordered the one thing they were out of - kabobs. Did that stop them from selling them to us? Nope... we got a "can you wait 15 minutes" - while we wanted to say something like "oh, no, that's ok" we wanted those kabobs more & we really could wait. So, we both nodded enthusiastically & took a seat. We were rewarded with a delightful spread of delicious food & sauce options to adjust to our liking. I mixed everything from my shawarma plate together - no shame. I drizzled one sauce then periodically added the other. Absolutely delicious! The staff interacted well with all patrons & there was a feeling a familiarity in the air. There were clearly a mix of regulars and first timers. The prices were reasonable & good portion sizes. I bookmarked it before leaving the table!

Was in Louisville and wanted to grab dinner on my way up to Cincinnati. Came across the Charcoal Restaurant on Google when searching for food nearby. I will say this is by far the best tasting grilled chicken I have ever had. Grilled on a charcoal oven, the smell alone has you nostalgic! We ordered the half chicken plate that came with two sides and the chicken shawarma sandwich with fries! The seasoning on the fries was phenomenal! The chicken marination and crisp charcoal taste will keep you drooling! I am absolutely amazed by the quality and presentation! Must try! 5 stars!

This place has incredible food! I tried the chicken shawerma platter with rice, & a garlic sauce (on the side) and tabouli salad plus hummus with tandoori bread. Everything was delicious. Fresh and bursting with flavor. The tabouli salad was so so good. The hummus was clearly home made and the best I have ever had. Food comes out very quickly.

Read great reviews and decided to try The Charcoal on my way back home. Glad I stopped in. I ordered the Chicken Shawarma Sandwich with Fries and a Tabouli Salad and a drink at about $16. Great value for the food you get. The chicken was soooo tender and had that slight smoky flavor combined with some great spices. The Zu Sauce on the side was also amazing, but the sandwich was good on its own. Fries were fresh and seasoned. The Tabouli Salad was fresh and flavorful. Employees (maybe the owner and wife?) were working hard, but also very friendly. Place is small, but clean. GREAT food.

Oh yum!! I ordered a half chicken and double basmati rice. White sauce is creamy garlic taste, and orange ones are spicy sauce. I mixed them together and it was perfect!! Also tried a Chicken Shawarma Sandwich on the other day, and It was also good and generous amount of chicken in it.:):) Owner is very friendly and nice atmosphere, quick stop and grabbed these dishes in 5min! Price is very affordable and I’ll be back soon!

What a little treasure Charcoal Barbecue is! My Falafel Plate was so fresh and tasty with the Garlic sauce. I looked the Zu sauce as well! Very casual, friendly atmosphere. Order at the register. Ahmed was very informative with several suggestions when I asked about gluten free options. Happy to help. I'll be returning!

Tasty food, fast service, kind and professional staff. Clean and cozy small restaurant close to the Westport Road. We ordered 1.Chicken dish with basmati rice, fries, and spicy zu sauce. 2. Shawerma plate with a tasty tabouli salad, and 3. Chicken Shawerma Sandwich with hummus. The food was fresh, just made, as well as french fries. This restaurant offers halal food.

Great taste, clean and not overly seasoned chicken. Perfectly cooked and tender. A half chicken is enough for two people. The sides are plentiful especially the hummus which was really tasty. I think for the price this is an easy choice. A lot of value for the money and I definitely recommend visiting if you're in the area.

Tasty food, felt like I was in my country really love the place and the stuff were very polite The place is very clean and you can sit and eat It’s made on charcoal but the service is too busy so there is a wait of 40-45 min on take outs

We tried this place after smelling the amazing charcoal for over a year, and we finally went in. We were warmly greeted and the service was awesome and everyone was so friendly. The food itself went beyond our expectations in flavor and the portion sizes. Amazing flavor, quality, and amount, and order was received very quickly. We’ll definitely be back…highly recommend!

Got lunch here around 11:30am. Ordered the shawarma platter, which was a generous serving of rice with freshly sliced chicken, a side of tabbouleh, and a side of garlic sauce. I also ordered a baba ganoush and a side of hot sauce. The chicken was moist, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. Mixed with the garlic sauce and the slightly sweet slightly spicy hot sauce and tabbouleh, it made for a very delicious meal. The baba was cold, fresh, and had just the right amount of acidity to cut through the chicken and rice and ‘reset’ my pallet. Probably would have been good with some pita but I was trying to be good and reduce my carbs :) When I arrived it was empty but while I was eating it got packed and there was a line. I didn’t wait more than five minutes for my order but if there are orders ahead of you expect to wait, everything is made fresh. About six tables inside and a few benches outside if the weather is nice. Plenty of parking for the entire plaza.

Wow, wow, wow. So good! 1/2 a chicken and 2 delicious sides for $9.99? Chicken was hot and fresh! They live up to their name with actual charcoal used for cooking! Hummus was really good as well! Clean, healthy dinner. Happy I found this place while passing though town!

Our family loves this place, and we come here all the time. The charcoal chicken is so tender and flavorful it will blow your mind. The half chicken is a better deal because it's not much more money, but you'll definitely have leftovers and it's still amazing out of the fridge cold. My favorite thing might be their hummus and tandoori bread though. Once I tried their baba ganoush, it was delicious, and it left the best aftertaste. Their fries and rice are always very good as well.

My wife and I were looking for a new place to try for dinner and we ended up here. We didn't know how it would be and were hesitant to go in. As we were deciding and starting to walk away, a gentlemen left the restaurant with his food and told us how good it was and we would be disappointed. We go in, order our food, and it was great. Both our meals were great! The chicken was juicy and tasted great, the rice was good, the bread was really good, and the hummus was the best I've ever had. The gentleman that took our order was very friendly and suggested to us what to get when we told him it was our first time trying the food. Price was good for the amount of food you get. The servings were huge. Both the sauces were so good. We will definitely return!

First best thing.. Halal!! Top of it grilled in charcoal. It’s Yummy chicken. Not sure when they opened but it’s really nice place for family dinner (sitting outside) they serve only grilled chicken and they are best at it. Love to visit again and again!! Restaurant is little small not sure how it will be during winter when we can’t sit outside

Delicious & gluten friendly! I got the quarter chicken with rice & hummus. We were shocked to find it was only $20 for my husband and I to eat. The staff is super friendly & it has a small yet cute seating area. Definitely recommend!

First time in, and I’m literally angry about that. I’ve lived here for over a year, so I’ve ripped myself off eating other places in this area. Shawarma plate was EXCELLENT. They sent me home with extra hummus (ridiculously well done) and the best pita, fluffy and warm and perfectly seasoned. I’ll be back at my earliest convenience!

Excellent experience. The proprietor was very friendly. It was our first time here. He showed patience with our indecision. He offered a suggestion that I decided to go with. It was excellent! Chicken shawarma plate over rice with tabouli salad. My better half went with the half chicken. She loved it. Such wonderful and complex flavors.

We stopped here on a Saturday on our way through Louisville. We tried a little bit of almost everything. It was so so good! We got more tabouli and tandoori bread. The owner is a super nice guy. We will definitely stop here again anytime we are in the area.

Simply delicious. Charcoal is always a treat. The food is hot and flavorful, and never disappoints. My wife told an out of town friend about the place and when they visited, they requested a trip to Charcoal. Ahmad the owner greets everyone with a smile, and I’ve run into him out in the community with his family. This place is just the best. Come and feast!

We came here with another family(group of 17 people) and ate the rest of the food they had on-hand. The chicken was so juicy, flavorful, and fresh. Our food was made to order and worth the wait. The service was great. They even gave us an extra serving of rice because the kids were super hungry. Looking forward to coming back if we are in town again.

Fabulous grilled chicken. Everything tasted amazing! I will definitely be back. I got the Chicken plate and added a side of Hummus. My friend got the wrap and it looked grilled to perfection as well. This was also my first time having Tabouli. Everything was great!

Delicious! I had carry out. The shawarma plate with baba ganoush. The chicken shawarma was so tender and juicy, and the baba ganoush was flavorful. I loved the metal container it was in, so I could reheat my food in the oven easily.

Genuinely some of the best chicken I've ever had. The flavor is spot on I loved the seasoning on the fries. Sauces are delicious. Had an amazing meal here. Come. Eat. It's simple yet delicious. You won't regret it.

A friend of mine recommended this place to me and it didn’t disappoint in the least bit! I ordered their quarter chicken, hummus, and bread. The chicken is some of the best I’ve eaten anywhere! The sauces were also incredible. I definitely recommend this place!

I was excited to try after seeing all of the great reviews and really wanted to like. Positives were the staff were friendly and the falafel was good. The hummus and baba ganoush were not good and had little flavor which was very surprising. Had the food been better the price paid would of been fair. Paid $1 for their Zu sauce described as spicy, it was not (seen in picture). I’ll stick to Shiraz for my Mediterranean fix.
