It is such a nice place accessible to the public, if you want to spend 8€ you have access to the gardens which are lovely and educational. It is family friendly with lots of space for children to explore and run around. The cafe and shop offer ample seating and delicious food/ beverages. Toilets are clean. Staff is very friendly! Highly recommend it

Lovely castle with a great history going back 800 years. Beautiful gardens, including a rosegarden and a butterfly house. You can wander down a fairy trail, and underneath 300 year old trees. Nice food hall with lots of local produce. Very recommended place for a nice day out.

The tour was too busy and packed with too many people. We have never been on a castle tour where there was a room full of people so we couldn't really enjoy it. The tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly. The self-guided part was nice exploring the woodland walks and gardens. Avoco had very healthy options catering to gluten free and vegan. Portion size was very generous. Toilets are available too.

Beautiful castle. The area and the castle is maintained very well. There are shops and toilets inside the spot. There are enough free car parking spaces. We went for a Halloween event there and the kids enjoyed it. The ticket price was a bit high that in the end it wasn’t worth it. The surrounding areas are beautiful and you can easily spend hours.

Amazing castle less than 20 minutes away from Dublin, preserved in outstanding shape. Surrounding gardens are very beautiful and in the big open areas many concerts were accommodated with famous artists performing. Another attraction is the small but cozy butterfly garden. Strongly recommended for a half day visit, preferably without rain, though :)

It is a lovely area to visit even if you don't get tickets to go into the castle and gardens. You can come for a casual weekend walk as well. The castle is lovely, a little small compared to what I expected. The tour guide we had, Martin (sorry if I got the name wrong) he, was amazing. He told us all about the ghost stories, and his tour was entertaining as much as it was educating. Also ticket pricing; Adult €14.00 Child €6.50 Senior/Student €9.00

We had the opportunity to visit these lovely gardens during Easter and it was a great experience. My daughter enjoyed the fairy/easter trail and me and my partner were surprised with the sheer beauty of the gardens. The food was excellent at their cafeteria and well look forward to another visit

Great day out for the kids, the staff was amazing, very polite, very friendly to everyone. The grounds themselves was spectacular and to top it all off we got to meet the wonderful Lucy Kennedy who singed my daughters book. Fantastic day, I would highly recommend it for everyone.

The guided castle tour is very fun, and the garden is gorgeous. Plan your time wisely because the only way to tour the garden is with guided tour. First tour is 9:30 AM. Last tour is 4:30 PM. If you are lucky, you might see the very famous ghost "lady in white". We actually found a really weird white translucent object in front of the red curtain with the room with a doll on the bed. Not sure if we had the pleasure took a photo with "white Lady" in it We had lots of fun exploring this beautiful magical Malahide Castle & Gardens.

Lovely area. Lots of space to walk and play areas for kids. We went to see some live music here in the grounds so we didn't get to experience too much of the gardens, but what we saw was lovely! The music was set up as a festival style with the stage and grounds all fenced off but what a setting!

Lovely castle. We spent time in the butterfly house as well, we just love butterfly's!! The gardens are superb. They were getting ready for a Concert so not everywhere was accessible but still worth going to .

Well this place is simply amazing. The tour was like 14 Euros. Pretty good priced. We took the guided tour. The info and insight into the history of this castle and surrounding area is really good. Anyone looking for an amazing trip MUST come here.

Great and amazing place. The castle is small but lovely and the gardens are wonderful. The price of the tickets for the castle your and gardens is the €14 per adult. But pay for it is really worth it. You need a pair of hours to do the whole tour. My favourite part was the gardens and de fairy trail

Perfect day out. So much to do. Castle, fairy trail, gardens, butterfly house, playground, model railway in Casino house nearby. You can spend whole day here, take picnic with you. Butterfly glasshouse was amazing, so many different species of butterflies there. Fairy trail was fun too, interactive, kids got a little book with pencil trying to answer questions to get to the right answer. Playground is very big, kids loved it. Didn't get to do castle tour, as it was booked out. Lots of squirrels around the castle . We'll be definitely back.

Absolutely brilliant outing with kids. If you decide to go I highly recommend the story telling tour through the castle and the following this up with the garden walk and butterfly house. Kids loved it and it's just the right amount of walking to get everyone out and about. Make sure you visit the deli inside the main center for great tasting treats and bring a blanket with to make it a picnic under the trees right outside. That was a morning well spent and will visit again with friends and family

I visited the castle and enjoyed the views of the surrounding countryside. The castle is impressive and has a lot of history, but unfortunately it was closed for renovations. I could only see the exterior and the gardens, which were well-maintained and beautiful. I was disappointed that I could not enter the castle and see the rooms, the furniture, and the artifacts. I hope to come back when the castle reopens and live the full experience. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes castles, but be aware that you might not be able to see everything inside.

One of the most beautiful castles I've ever visited (I'm Italian). The beauty of the interior left me speechless, an emotional experience! The staff was very kind, friendly and professional, the audio guide was convenient and perfectly timed for the visit.

Huge place. The castle is medium size. Good place for a day out and nicely maintained. Loads of garden and playground for hanging around. Got food and coffee places inside the grounds.

Into the greens of the wood, and the vast grass field, make it's appearance a magnificent structure, ancient one, surrounded by all kind of necessities. Through fairy ways and butterfly's house you will make a great experience. Great for grown up and the young, it has all kind of amenities needed in a "family place based". Shops, and tours included.

My husband and I had a great time on the guided tour. Ashley was very knowledgeable and sweet and a really great storyteller (and all after only two weeks!) Congratulations, Ashley! The gardens were beautiful. The gift shop was full of interesting items. The cafe was tasty and not too expensive. It was only 10 Euro round trip from Connolly station in Dublin. I strongly recommend to any visitors.

Hard to put up pictures without getting other children Etc in the photo, but this place has it all for a family day out. The grounds are kept so well, you can picnic on the lawn in front of the castle. There is a coffee shop on site, a fantastic playground and a little train that goes in to Malahide town and back around to the park.

Just outside of Dublin, quick train ride and absolutely worth it. This review is mostly for the castle tour, which is quite entertaining. The guide was passionate about the castle and its history. In addition to telling you the story of the castle, grounds, and family that owned it, he shared anecdotes which added to the story of the castle. Going from room to room, you're told when it was added and/or why, you're told how hallways or stairs have changed and why, there's also original decor which adds to the ambiance. Definitely worth the tour. Furthermore, the grounds are beautiful and very well maintained. Bring a snack and have a picnic - or simply walk the dog.

Malahide Castle and Gardens is a beautiful place to visit with amazing concerts during the Summer. It was very easy to get from Dublin City to malahide Castle with the dart for Connolly station or Tara Street Station. The dart will drop you right outside Malahide, Castle. The security and staff there are lovely and very helpful.

What a marvellous place and exciting setting for a Depeche Mode concert. We travelled from Madrid, Spain, and the only thing I regret was not spending more time in the Gardens. So green, such a magnificent and special vibe. I can’t wait to go back.

Beautiful castle set in an stunning location. The castle is really well preserved and offers visitors a unique perspective on Irish history and influence of the Vikings and Normans. The gardens are also well worth visiting and is also home to the butterfly house. There are is a cafe and a small shop. The castle is very dog friendly.

We had a tour of the castle which was so interesting to see. Our guide Bláithín was so friendly and informative. The gardens are absolutely beautiful and the fairy trail was great fun for children (and the adults) to explore all the different areas. There is a fantastic Avoca shop with a huge range of food, gifts and souvenirs to choose from. We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon at the castle and gardens. A pleasant walk to the train station was a bonus as it took us straight back to Connolly station in Dublin city centre.

It was 14 euros per person to visit. The castle was nice, it's been kept over the years. It had a very large garden and butterfly house that was included in the price. The staff was friendly and helpful.

We did the garden walk and the castle tour. Doreen was simply wonderful and offered so much knowledge on the history, even answering questions not posed during the tour. Excellent experience.

Great castle! Can tour the grounds before or after the tour and tour was great! I had always wanted to visit a castle and this experience was AMAZING!! We went in November so make sure to dress very warmly in wintertime. I would recommend buying tickets in advance. Also make sure to arrive 10 min before so you can start the tour with your group or you will need to wait for the next tour

Wonderful day out. Took the two kids (ages 2 and 4) out to see the castle, didn't have anything booked. I asked the very helpful staff member at the castle what would be good for their ages and she advised on the gardens, playground and then fairy trail and butterfly house if we wanted something extra. We spent so long playing in the gardens and playground that we were wrecked before going to the fairy trail, looking forward to coming back to that in the future!

Great park to walk around with the family. Walkways are mostly paved and can be accesible for our fellow wheelbounded people. There are also parts of the park that needs an entrance fee like this fairy park that has different segments to enjoy and take pictures.

Gorgeous grounds and great castle but I wish they offered self guided tours. 30 people in one group was a lot especially when 15 were young kids. There should be sep tours

Well managed and maintained castle and grounds. Large playground with ample parking and a nice walkway into the town. The castle tour is well worth a look, plenty of information on the origins of the castle and it's family.

Fabulous place. The guide tour woman was great. Her stories were so interesting and funny. I absolutely enjoyed the tour. I recommend it strongly to visit the castle with the guide tour. The gardens are beautiful.

Amazing place. Easy to find, polite staff. Picnics can be arranged. Little visitors will have fun at FAIRY TAIL & the butterfly house. Recommended

We went for a walk around the gardens (didn't get into the castle itself on our first trip), and it's a stunningly beautiful grounds to take a saunter through. The gardens are beautiful, the butterfly house (reviewed seperately) is incredible, and it's a lovely serene trail to follow.

We didn't visit the inside because we were late, but the garden and the view of the castle were really fascinating. There is a walking path leading to the marina and there are playgrounds on the walking path. It is a suitable place for the whole family to have a good time.

Nice place to visit on a sunny day with friends and family. The guided tour of the castle is worth it. The greenhouse is a great place if you like butterflies 🦋 (stay until the close time to be more private and try to find different species, maybe if you are lucky, some of them can land on your hand)

  • 5/5 Tyron F. 8 months ago on Google
Great playground for kids and large carpark (which is free!!). Avoca cafe gets busy at lunch time but serves very tasty and healthy food options. Little road train that runs a shuttle service between the castle and beach via the train station is worth a go. The driver is a real character but runs a very efficient service.

  • 5/5 Terrence C. 5 months ago on Google
Stunning atmosphere! Beautiful light show! Even during the daytime this is a wonderful area to walk, explore and allow kids and pets to play.

  • 4/5 Chris F. 2 years ago on Google
Great place, kids really enjoyed the experience it was just a pity that no one was there to protect the butterflys from people grabbing them. We probably seen more dead butterflys than alive one's. Please sort it out.

  • 5/5 Chris J. 5 months ago on Google
This place was magical. The castle grounds and the gardens were amazing to walk through, and the cafe was a great surprise, exactly what we needed to refuel and keep going. I would suggest this location to anyone, and it's easily reachable via public transportation.

Today I was visiting Malahide Castle. It's quite pretty and I thought it was bigger. But it is ok to tell the truth, it keeps a nice very interesting story. So this is a place you should definitely visit if you go to Malahide. The surroundings of the castle are fascinating, full of gardens and all in a very good condition and extremely clean. I just got a really dirty bathroom. It's the only bad thing I could say.Everything else is beautiful so it is worth going to see it.

I went here for a girls day out with my best friend and it was amazing! We had so much fun...We parked in the city centre and took a Dart to Malahide it's super close to the Dart Station The Castle grounds are well maintained, lots of Irish history if you enjoy such things and nice shops too. It was lovely

  • 5/5 Laura . 9 months ago on Google
Went to see Depeche Mode and it was the best night ever. There was plenty of shops around the fields and stage area- chippy, beers, cocktails, crepes and much more. Only annoying thing was when the concert finished we had to walk for 15 minutes back to Malahide village to get a taxi home as all roads in and out of Malahide castle were closed to let concert people out.

  • 4/5 Rider B. 2 years ago on Google
Beautiful place near beach , parking facilities , bathrooms available for free, shopping center as well . The castle can be seen from outside as well as there is a tour inside as well , including a small garden walk.

Great day out - especially if you have young children. Such a welcoming and varied number of things to do. The best playground ever, a fairy walk, butterfly house and plenty of open space.

  • 5/5 Justina O. 1 year ago on Google
Everything was fantastic! We almost spent the whole day in here even though we planned to stay less than 2 hours. We went on the castle tour. Our guide was perfect-she managed to keep everybody engaged, even my 7yo. She also included my daughter in one of the tales. We went to the Fairy trail as well. My daughter had a lot of fun but so did we-the grown ups.

  • 5/5 Artur P. 1 year ago on Google
Great place for a weekend picnic or family time with kids. Walled garden with butterfly green house worth visit. Recommend fairy trail for younger children, adults will have fun too.

  • 5/5 Claire Marie C. 2 years ago on Google
We took the guided tour and loved it! Family friendly, loads of fun facts and beautiful rooms. Despite the terrible weather which meant we didn't get to see the gardens. Had a lovely break in Avoca instead. My only regret is that the castle lower levels aren't opened to the public.

  • 5/5 Val D. 2 years ago on Google
What a wonderful experience at the wonderlights. Thoroughly enjoyed it and the kids loved it. I had to reschedule my booking twice and staff were very prompt in replying and more than accommodating. I will definitely be booking this trip for next year thank you

  • 5/5 Claire x. 2 years ago on Google
Visited for Wonderlights with a friend and our young children. It was magical. Seeing the castle all lit up was like something out of a fairytale. I can't express how much I loved this. Can't wait for next year!

  • 5/5 Rigo A. 2 years ago on Google
This was the first elegant castle we visited and we spent the greater part of the day here. The only reason for that was that it is very easy to get lost when your GPS doesn't work. 🙃 These pictures won't give you justice, the history and class of the owners, gives you a good idea of what a peasant was.

  • 5/5 Julianne 2 years ago on Google
We visited the Fairy gardens with the Kids and they absolutely loved it, we spent the whole day there! Great day out and lovely suprise to visit the butterfly House, beautiful.

  • 5/5 paul n. 10 months ago on Google
What a beautiful place. History walks, you can't go wrong. There are fairy trails and ice cream. The kids will love it. There are secluded summer seats to cuddle away from sight. If she allows you, LOL. For the adults there are concerts held on a regular basis. We happen to be here for Depeche Mode. Put it on your list.

Beautiful castle + gardens. Was here before in daytime but was there this week for wonderlights. It was amazing. Lovely set up and light displays, perfect for all ages. Music made a great atmosphere and most staff seemed friendly. Food was good too. Highly recommended!

The entire castle gardens is a vast area to walk on a pleasant day. Catching toots train you can enjoy a trip around in Malahide. Near by Casino model train muesum and fairy trails will be loved by kids as well .

Visited Malahide grounds twice for concerts and was blown away by its beauty. Whole park is so well maintained and cared for. Didn't get to visit the castle but the grounds were more than enough to make up for it. Pathways lit up, even through the woods so it felt safe to be there at night.

Great outdoor place, nice guided tour inside the castle with guide and staff absolutely lovely, and helped us to get the best ticket deal for 6 people. Our guide in particular was very good, friendly, professional and entertaining! With the tour ticket you get the entrance to the fairy trail and some gardens for a nice relaxing walk.
