I
hate
writing
critical
reviews
because
I
appreciate
that
running
the
restaurants
is
tough.
But,
sometimes,
like
this
afternoon
at
Darjeeling
Express,
it
is
too
much
for
me
to
hold
back!
We
were
served
by
staff
who
left
us
feeling
that
we
should
be
obliged
that
we
were
eating
there.
One
can
forgive
a
bit
of
nonchalance
from
people
who
are
tired
but
something
rather
strange
happened
with
the
bill.
We
were
presented
with
a
bill
with
service
charge
scribbled
across
it
in
felt
pen.
The
sum
was
wrong
by
a
small
amount,
something
that
caught
my
eye.
You
can
check
the
sum
in
the
picture
attached.
When
I
pointed
it
out
to
the
manager,
instead
of
an
apology,
I
got
an
ugly
glare
and
argument
that
it
was
the
right
sum.
The
sum
was
not
corrected
and
I
did
not
want
to
create
a
scene.
So,
I
paid.
Either
the
service
is
discretionary
or
it
is
part
of
the
printed
receipt.
Scribbling
an
arbitrary
number
across
the
bill
and
getting
the
addition
wrong
is
unethical.
As
a
teacher
I
know
that
everyone
makes
mistakes,
but
I
also
know
that
it
is
only
the
arrogant
that
get
defiant
in
face
of
their
mistake.
And
food
with
a
side
of
nonchalant
arrogance
always
tastes
very
bitter.
Response
to
restaurant:
The
calculator
showed
that
she
had
made
a
mistake
but
she
did
not
correct
the
sum.
When
she
didn't
correct
the
sum,
I
paid
the
full
amount
because
I
didn't
want
to
create
a
scene.
This
is
not
about
money.
It
is
about
how
you
treat
your
guests.
I
don't
think
I
have
ever
come
across
a
restaurant
defending
something
that
is
blatantly
wrong.
How
can
you
defend
a
wrong
calculation?
The
lack
of
an
apology
in
the
response
baffles
me.
In
any
case,
I
rather
let
is
rest
here.
