I had a mixed experience at Matt the Thresher. The venue was pleasant, and the staff were friendly, creating a welcoming atmosphere. However, I was extremely disappointed with the food quality. The starter didn't match the menu description, and the matured sirloin steak in the main course was leathery and inedible. It was not cooked as ordered and partially burnt. The wine prices felt predatory, €14 per glass of white wine, and the lack of wine lists provided for our group, coupled with exorbitant prices for all drinks, including soft drinks, added to the overall dissatisfaction. Unfortunately, the substandard food and pricing issues affected the overall enjoyment of the dining experience.

One of the best seafood restaurants in Dublin. The place can be noisy when crowded and reservations are a must. Staff is very friendly and professional. The food is fresh and high quality very wine and liquor selection. Recommend a Connemara 12 Whiskey with Irish Oysters.

It is a must to try this nice and fancy restaurant located in Dublin. The decoration is incredible, the food is soo tasty, and the waiters are so nice and so welcoming. This place was suggested to me by many locals, and they were right. I had to walk a bit from my hotel, but it was worthy.

My fiance and I went here after talking about going for the past year, and weren't disappointed. When I entered I was first struck by how large the place is. Options to sit in "the library" or an upstairs area tha looks down on the restaurant's main level. Excellent date night atmosphere. I really enjoyed the oysters, and fish of the day. The pot of muscles was delicious as well. We plan to return once per month as the cost was impressively reasonable for the high quality seafood that they serve.

Erica and her colleagues looked after us so well from the moment we stepped in the door. They couldn't be nicer, the food was fantastic. The specials were explained well and tasted amazing. Can't recommend enough, a great experience.

Went for dinner on weeknight, and had a great meal. Great range of seafood and fresh oysters. Bar like multi level seating but didn't feel crowded or loud. Enjoyed a market catch special along with oysters, mussels, and a great pear and blueberries crumble. Worth a stop in

This restaurant is located in the heart of Dublin city, but still in a quite, not super touristic area. What you can find there: - This is a sea-food speciality restaurant. Every dish we tried - was just great. But the winner is - oysters. - Wine selection will make any wine lover happy, and also support a pleasant conversation during the night out😊. - Staff is super friendly and helpful in making a decision for a doubtful person 🙏.

We had a very enjoyable dinner tonight served By Joanna. Service was very good and all were friendly. The Dublin prawns were the very best I've ever eaten. The seafood chowder was very fresh and lots of chunks of fresh fish. Nice evening by the fireplace. Recommend the prawns, hands down.

My friend and I had a wonderful dining experience at this restaurant. The food and prices were excellent. Most importantly, we were impressed with the service, mainly because the host allowed us to move downstairs after being seated upstairs with a very rowdy group.

We had a wonderful dinner for 2 last night. We chose catch of the day, monkfish and stone bass, wich were beautifully prepared and presented. The staff were very kind and helpful. Nice carte of wines. Lovely atmosphere. Be aware that if you like to eat abundant you should order starter and main course. And there is a service charge of 12,5%. Overall a great place, a delicious experience!

Fabulous restaurant with great food & service. If you like your fish, especially the mussels, for starter, this is a great place to eat. Ask about the daily specials. Good menu and wine menu, too. For me, this was a treat, and I loved it. Prices wise well, it's on the upper side for me, especially the wine, but don't let that put you off as it was still fab. I would love to go back, so maybe for a treat next time.

Dining here was a 5 star experience. The atmosphere was beautiful, I went with a group of 5 people and we had a table in the back on the ground floor. It was very roomy, and the table was set beautifully. The food was divine, we all shared every appetizer, I highly recommend the squid. I had the Hake for my main, which was the fish of the day, I ate every bite. The dessert tasted as good as it looked, best passion fruit so dry I have ever had! All of the staff was absolutely amazing. Myself and another person in our group has dietary restrictions/allergies, and our server took very good care of us. I will definitely be coming here again with other family and friends!!

The food was quite good, but not exceptional, and certainly not worth the prices they charge. The chowder was an acceptable fish soup, but lacked the richness and punch that I'd expect from s chowder. The scallops with black pudding and pancetta was good, scallops cooked perfectly, black pudding very tasty, but the pancetta was just chewy bits that didn't add much to the fish. The fish pie was nice, but had too much potato compared to the amount of fish. The fillet steak have the impression of being recently thawed and the chips were rather stale and dense. This plus 8 oysters, a bottle of wine, two coffees, and 4 shots came to 215€ plus tip. That feels overly expensive for food that wasn't exceptional. Didn't try it but the fried fish looked really good. Service was very friendly, but slow. After 30 minutes resulting for starters, we asked for some bread.

We got the chicken parfait and tomato soup for starters, it was delicious, could have gotten a bit more bread for the parfait. We had the prawn linguine and the fish and chips for mains. The prawn linguine was delicious, the perfect amount of prawns and the sauce was so creamy. The fish and chips were okay, just your average fish and chips. It is a bit pricey but well worth it.

It is a classic place to eat in Dublin, excellent for a long lunch. Go for the sea food, service can be less than ideal when busy but the staff are generally good. Would reccomend.

Had lunch here today with my Mum. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our visit from beginning to end. Service, ambience and food all outstanding. Couldn't fault a single thing. We both had scampi - absolutely delicious. Dessert was Eton Mess - gorgeous. Highly recommend a visit. Well done to all - what a team! Thank you so much from both of us.

While the service wasn't the warmest, the seafood was well worth it. The steampot was filled to the brim with tender whole shrimp, crab claws, mussels, and cockles in a lightly spicy broth. I'm from Florida and have never been so pleasantly full from seafood alone..for the price it is well worth it. The best meal I have had in Dublin hands down.

Our group had a great dinner at Matt the Thresher. The service was excellent- friendly and timely. The portion sizes were ample. I had the prawn and linguine dinner and it was delicious. The chicken portions were large and tasty. The desserts - we had the rhubarb crumble and the ice cream and popping candy (because of course someone had to try that) - were tasty and large. The popping candy was a unique and fun addition and fun way to end a lovely meal.

Was so excited to eat oysters at our 6pm reservation. They were out. I was bummed. So I decided to get the over roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy. OMG! We ordered 3 of them. DELICIOUS. My daughter ordered the Seafood pasta. That was ok. Not impressed. Really let down on that. Desserts were good. Make sure they have oysters before you go

Always a 5 star experience. Ivan is great, as is Tom at the door. Always a warm welcome and a great table. Ivan very particular about staff's knowledge of the menu, which is good to see. Oysters are top drawer, best in Dublin in my opinion. If you're looking for a guaranteed great quality seafood evening, this is the place to go.

I went tonight with my parents. I wanted a very nice restaurant with a very good food for their last night here. It was beyond my expectations. The staff is available and very nice. They are not rushing you or anything. They give good advice. I ordered mussels and it was the best i ever have especially the sauce. The ambiance inside is very nice. I will definitely come back. Thank you

Dinner with family. I had the oyster as starter, and, they were really well presented and very tasty. Then I went for linguine seafood and it was very nice too. Lots of seafood. Wine was excellent. I will come back again

Warmly welcome, great service, nice decoration. We had oysters it was super fresh and a big pot of steam shellfish 😊Nice wine too. However, the catch of the day (monkfish) was a bit pricey & my husband didn’t like it too much.

Lovely atmosphere, warm and welcoming staff. I liked how our vaccination certificates were quickly checked and we were shown our table quickly. Moments after we sat down, we were told about their daily specials and our orders were swiftly and efficiently taken. To start, I had some Connemara oysters and with their choice of dressings, they tasted absolutely amazing. I regret not ordering more oysters! For my main, I had the stonebass fillet which was a daily special at the time. It ticked all the boxes for me in terms of how I like my fish: Crispy skin, sides that complement the fish, highlighting the fish’s natural umami, perfect level of saltiness and moist. I have no issues whatsoever with Matt the Thresher and now, I can confidently say Matt the Thresher is one of my favourite restaurants in Dublin. Outstanding!

We had a fine dining experience. The staffs were very cordial and welcoming. Prompt overall service, tables were cleared everytime a meal was done. Luscious food that was beautifully presented. Liked Seafood Chowder the most. Only downside was perhaps the portion quantity for the pricing but otherwise all well. Few items on the menu were unavailable.
