I have been a very frequent visitor to Patrick Guilbaud over the years so was excited to try The Garden Room at the Merrion Hotel. The Pros: - Ambience is excellent and decor is stunning - Staff are pleasant, be it somewhat inattentive Cons: - The menu lacks any inspiration and the food is extremely overpriced for what it is. The prices are close to those of Patrick Guilbaud (for example The Black Sole is €44), however the quality of food is closer to banquet catering. - My main was absolutely inedible - as seen from the photo the lamb was incredibly tough, chewy and almost impossible to cut. It was both a terrible cut of lamb and cooked by a novice chef. The fact that this piece of meat cleared the chef to get in front of a customer at this level of a restaurant is unforgivable. - The staff although pleasant, are incredibly inattentive. Again, even though I went during a Sunday when it wasn't busy it took almost 15 mins to be able to get a member of staff's attention to explain to them that my meat was inedible. I would expect staff to have come by a short time after our dishes were served to ask if everything was ok, rather than having to try and constantly signal them. Thus this made any form of remedy on my food impossible, as my family had already nearly finished their mains. There are too many reason as to why I would never return, amongst those the fact that everybody at my table was unimpressed by their dishes.

The ambiance and the environment is lovely and classy. Overall We had a great time. The restaurant has huge windows overlooking the inner garden and fountains part of Merrion Hotel (which is one of the best hotels in Dublin). The service is good and friendly. The hallway leading to the restaurant has fantastic art. On the downside: i) some of the cutlery and glasses were not clean and didn’t smell fresh. ii) the food is below expectation.

Family of 4; and we had a lovely evening - all as you’d expect in a top hotel, but nice atmosphere also. Staff were friendly and professional. All told, I’d recommend this place, definitely.

Went here for Christmas Day lunch. It was delicious, staff were so nice, and cocktails were excellent. Will be making a booking to come here again next Christmas.

Another excellent meal in the Garden Room . We visited yesterday for lunch .There were four of us . Everyone was delighted with their food . Starters , mains and desserts. There is a great choice of wines both by the glass and the bottle. The quality of the food and the presentation was wonderful. The service is definitely five star many thanks to Daniel our lovely waiter who ensured our experience was a great one. The Garden Room is such a lovely venue and never disappoints.

Faultless, from when greeted at the reception to the last mouthful of dessert. The staff are so friendly and helpful, special mention for Julia. The food was simply delicious. Being a dedicated carnivore I had the fillet steak, which was perfect, but having tried my wife's Dover Sole I believe I am now converted as it was out of this world. Finally the chocolate mousse was a fitting finale to a wonderful meal. Thank you to all the staff, especially for the little extras to celebrate my wife's birthday. Thank you again.

I had a lovely pre theater dinner at the Merrion hotel. The service was impeccable. I was eating alone and the server offered to get me a newspaper. When I left the restaurant, the host thanked me by my last name even thought I was not a guest at the hotel. These little things stand out.

Fabulous location, great service and food verging on the sublime. The dessert was full of flavour and had the sort of texture that chefs spend years trying to achieve....

We had an excellent full Irish breakfast here. The staff are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. The attention to detail here really makes the experience, even the raspberry jam is custom made and delicious.

While the staff was kind and quite attentive, the portion sizes, especially when it came to the starters, left a lot to be desired. The meat quality was unacceptable for a restaurant of this price range.

Quiet. Lovely service. A hidden gem. The garden is beautiful and the food is lovely for a light lunch. Many veggie and vegan options too!

Nice setting, good food. Service was less than a 5 star experience.

Really nice setting for lunch. Not cheap and probably over priced but you're paying for the location and the name as well as the food. Positives were the service and the Pork main was delicious. Negatives were the Tuna steak being overcooked and it was meant to come with scallops which never appeared.

Nice setting, particularly if nice weather. Food was OK. Nothing special. Service very average. Got the bill and was half what it should be. Was correct and over corrected. All just takes away from the experience. Disappointing. Ended on a low.

Amazing food and even better service. It was one of the best restaurants we visited in Ireland. I highly recommend it to other people.

Very disappointed in this restaurant. Food very average, staff were pleasant but seemed to lack experience. Opened the menus to find if smeared with dried food. Prawn starter was completely tasteless, pheasant for main course was cold when it arrived at the table.
