My girlfriend and I were visiting Dublin and we were told to visit a certain famous pub. When went it, it was so overcrowded that we were not enjoying ourselves. We decided to leave and found The Norseman very close by. What a happy accident! The pub had everything we wanted; good service, a lively crowd and traditional Irish music. The atmosphere was fantastic and the prices reasonable. We were tempted to order the food, it looked so good, but we had just eaten. The Norseman is in the famous Temple Bar area of Dublin and a must-visit. Go and have a pint or even dinner!

Good moment in irish style with pub, cool and good rock music live ! Pub beautiful, but to eat, it's expensive for this quality food... But you can drink and be relax with live music. And personnel are good.

The Norseman, though wonderful, suffers from its popularity among tourists. The live music and lively vibe are unquestionably appealing, but the influx of tourists can be overwhelming. It's a bit challenging to fully immerse in the local atmosphere amidst the crowd. If you prefer a more authentic, less touristy experience, you might need to look beyond The Norseman.

UPDATE: The business responded to this review, apologizing and asking me to email them. I have emailed them since on the official email mentioned on their website to receive no response whatsoever. Visited this place on Sunday with my partner and friend. I ordered a vegetarian burger. The waitress did not speak English well and apparently made a mistake in the order (honest mistake, I understand). About 20 minutes later, they brought me a "beef burger without burger" so basically just a beef patty and some onion rings. I told them I was a vegetarian and they said there was nothing they could do "because the kitchen closes at 9 PM". It was 8:59 PM. I asked them if they could at least serve me some dessert because I was really hungry. They said No. They did not even seem to care that there was a group of patrons sitting there with one hungry patron who will go back home hungry. No apology offered either. I sat there watching my friends eat until my partner said this was unacceptable and insisted they do it right by me. The chef/manager came and created a scene - got angry at the waitress in front of us and was rude to us as well. Overall, $hitty experience for us. Finally another waitress brought me two breads, some salad and two onion rings. When we got the bill, I realized I was charged €17+ for a beef burger that I did not ask for or eat. Which makes this the most expensive two slices of bread and two pieces of onion rings I've ever had in my entire life :) I can understand an honest mistake but I cannot tolerate indifference. When I hear "old Irish restaurant/pub", nice friendly people and warm vibes are what come to mind. This place had neither to offer. Never going back. PS: Someone did come (much) later and apologize (briefly) but the damage was already done by that time. We respecfully provided our feedback - that they could have been nice to us at least - and left.

If you can sleep in a noisy environment, I highly recommend the Norseman. In the heart of the Temple Bar, it is surrounded by great eating and drinking establishments, and if you like to walk, you can reach all the local attractions (Kilmainham Gaol is the farthest at about 3 miles). Otherwise Hop on Hop off bus stops are nearby. The rooms are cozy, but are clean and have everything you need.

A tradicional Irish pub in Temple Bar. Is a busy place, there is live music. Good for a pint but music too loud for talk. It's a nice place but there isn't something different with other pubs in the zone.

My friends and I went to the pub last night and unfortunately it was ruined by an absolute vile man who thought he had the right to touch me inappropriately. The bartender called the bouncer who had him escorted out and even checked to see if I was ok. As the man was getting escorted out that’s when two of his other friends decided to get physical with the bouncer. 3 men on one man. While watching this I was completely disgusted at the lack of support from the manager/ other bouncers. The fact that you just watched your colleague get beaten up and the best you can do is wave your hands and tell them to stop. You should be ashamed of yourselves. I never got the bouncers name but I just want to say thank you for everything. I am so sorry that you had to endure that. Thank you so much.

We were a company of 4. The room was great! The bathrooms and room were clean, enough towels for everyone and shampoo, conditioner, and soap was provided! We loved that there was skylight that was also able to be closed. I do wish that there was more ventilation and a mini fridge would have been great!

Live music that doesn't yell at you and super friendly sweet staff. People coming here are well behaving, you become almost like family here. Bar AND Restaurant are authenticly decorated, super comfy and the staff knows their stuff! The Irish stew makes your dreams come true :)

The food is decent but don’t expect friendly service. The waitress didn’t say 2 words to us. I’m not even sure she made a noise besides a little grunt to acknowledge what we want. Highly recommend the bangers and mash. Great place to go in Lieu of the Temple Bar.

Fun restaurant and bar, we had dinner there and enjoyed the Guinness stew and the seafood chowder. My sister took the caesar salad which unfortunately was WAY too full of sauce. Then we enjoyed a few beers with live music downstairs and had a very nice time!!

Wonderful historic restaurant. I highly suggest the seafood soup. It’s a winner! At lunch we had not line for a table, quick service and inexpensive compared to other places in the area. Old place with very satisfying food. I’d go back.

I loved this pub! Very friendly bar staff and good live music. The Guinness was nice and fresh and poured properly. €6.90 a pint made me cry but that's just because I'm a Yorkshireman who is accustomed to three quid in his local... These are usual prices for Dublin 😅. Would visit again next time!

We didn't like to cue for the Temple Bar and ended up in The Norseman which was an excellent decision. Busy, but not overcrowded. Good food, fair prices. Will come back!! :-)

Pleasant lunch service. Easy going and casual service staff. Fish and chips was very good. Chocolate cake for dessert was delicious and I highly recommend. One person can dine for about 30€ without drinks.

We came to the restaurant last night. Party at 4. We had fish-and-chips. Was absolutely terrible. One had steak and very over cooked... 1 had pasta it was really good. Appetizer was awesome Overall it's not good. We were offered no compensation after telling waiter.. I would have to give it a 1 star.

Went here last night on a Friday night about half 11. Was definitely no Irish people in there except those working, probably because of the price of a drink (think we paid just under 16 euros for 2 pints of cider but that doesn’t seem unusual for tourist bars in the area). Was packed and took a while to get served (bar staff seemed a bit slow but seemed to be aware of who was next). But the live singer was great, very wide range of music including Irish folk songs, 80s to modern pop/rock. Good range of ages/nationalities and fantastic atmosphere. Would recommend if you’re looking for a drink with atmosphere in Temple Bar. Also has a late license (2.30 am). But not the place to go for an authentic Irish experience/to rub shoulders with locals.

Been there on Sunday bank holiday. Great location. Live music. Great atmosphere- the Irish singer was very entertaining so that everyone in the room was dancing and singing. Little space, so there was uncomfortable to seat at the bar. I asked for drinks menu- they didn’t have it! Very expensive drinks!!! We had only 2 pints of Guinness each! A pint of Guinness is 7.40€ which is very expensive, even for this place!

Typical Irish pub with great live music. We had a very lovely evening there. Staff was super friendly. Food & pints a little bit on the pricier side but overall great experience!

We had so much fun here. Best Pub in Dublin. Live music on Saturday was amazing. Drinks were really good. Definitely coming back here.

Wanted to experience a pub in Dublin with live music, and this was less busy than most. Maybe because of the prices......12 euro for a lager and a small soft drink. Pleasant atmosphere and the fella singing was good, not just playing tourist Irish songs.

Fun place. Would recommend. Food was great too. Service from our waitress (from Brazil) was top notch, she was great! Irish stew was amazing. Friend had chowder, fish/chips and bangers…which were all good. .

Worst experience I've ever had dining anywhere. We came an hour before kitchen closes, and we ordered right away, within 10 minutes of being seated. Server brought our drinks and food (ordered at same time) and then completely ignored us the whole time. Currently it's been an hour since she's come back to the table. The other server cleared our plates, our drinks have been empty for more than 30 min. We finished dinner 15 min before 9PM I'm hopes of getting the cheesecake dessert and guinness, but have yet to have our table tou he'd by anyone.... When I say ignored, I mean she's come out (this is a 10 table small establishment), and I've looked at her and tried to make eye contact multiple times. She's talked to other tables, and we've waited in hopes of her making her rounds.. and nothing.. Food was good, but can get better with better service and overall experience somewhere else.

From my experience, I do not have something more (2) add, the place offers. Live music, a variety of beers + cocktails, friendly environment. You can go alone or with a friend of yours, and simple spend couple hours there!

Went there last week with a couple of friends. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, the music and decoration was lovely :) and a cherry on top was a bartender who not only asked me for an ID but also looked genuinely shocked when checking my age (in a positive way).

This is for the rooms above the bar…Recently renovated room. Cool location. It’s loud. Don’t think for a moment that earplugs will save you. Dude screaming “lap dances for everyone” wearing a sandwich board outside. The crowd noise died down about 3am. At 7am the metal kegs started rolling off trucks. It was a good experience for one night. More than this and you’ll be exhausted.

We had a lovely time at The Norseman Pub. The drinks are well-priced and the live music is generally very enjoyable. Friendly staff as well. Just a great vibe here during the nights. Would definitely visit!

Came here as part of a pub crawl and had a great time. Excellent live music and a friendly, jovial atmosphere. Bartenders were on the ball so we weren't waiting too long for drinks.

Absolutely loved the stew I ordered (and the beer as well!) The live music was great (not too loud) and we had fun watching one of the matches of the World Cup there. Would definitely go back.

Stayed in one of the rooms here and it was great. The location is excellent in the very center of Dublin. You should expect it to be pretty loud because of this. Note that this also includes ~7am in the morning when all the bars are loading their used kegs onto trucks. But the staff were helpful, the room clean, and earplugs are in all the rooms already. Excellent experience, would recommend. The bar is also fine, the drinks a little expensive for the area but the live music makes it worthwhile.

Reduce space, but for the excellent service and the food is highly recommended. Fish and chips or the smoky burger are the best. It's possible eat the classic Irish stuffed with mash potatoes. Good beer selection. Average price. Booking not required.

Nice place with a long history which I'd encourage you to read before taking your seat. Fish and chips tasted great, and as most places in Dublin they know how to pour a good pint of Guinness. Was lucky enough to eat while they had live music, which enhanced the atmosphere.

Lovely pub with live music and friendly staff. We found the service to be surprisingly fast for how busy it was in some instances. The downstairs area is really bustling and the upstairs is cozy with great windows for people watching. We also booked a room above to stay central for our visit to Dublin and were very happy with the decision. We showed up a bit too early for check-in but management was kind enough to hold our bags and made sure that we got in alright when we came back even though it was a very busy night. Some reviewers complained about the pub music making their room loud but we did not find that to be an issue. It only really got noisy when the pubs began to empty but it’s a central location in Temple Bar and people were laughing and having a good time on their way home - I hardly find that as a reason to complain. I’m sure that a quieter room can be found in the suburbs. All in all - great pub and comfortable accommodation offering the basics. The only real suggestion that I have for management is to fix a bit of the grout and caulking in the shower but all was great otherwise and would absolutely book a room here again.

Live music here is the best part, the pub has a nice atmosphere to it. Beers are great and the staff is really nice. I guess the part where this place fails is FOOD. We were really disappointed by the amount of salt that was used in the food (better less than too much, you can always add more). The stew barely had any beef, more veggie and sauce than anything else. The kitchen is definitely not their area of expertise. I had better meals for less than we paid here for sure. Given the fact that Ireland is full of pubs, I will definitely elect to go anywhere else before ever coming back here if I’m hungry.

Had high expectations for the Norseman and was a little disappointed by the experience. The menu they have online is more extensive than what we got on the day - they didn't have the Irish stew pie, just the stew, and the desserts were limited and missing the peach and pear cobbler I wanted to try. The ambience of the restaurant was quite nice but it was very dark to the point its really hard to read the menu. But it was quite good that the sounds from the pub area downstairs didn't travel up to the restaurant much. There was a problem with our starters that one of the dishes was apparently not included in the order when printed to the kitchen while the rest went though. It was a little odd and left some of the members of our party without food for the first while. I do wish that the waiters noticed this discrepancy (as they had given us side plates for the missing dish) but it was only when we brought it up that they noticed. They were quite apologetic and gave us free dessert for the mistake but I did wish they were a bit more proactive about it when it was clear there were dishes missing when the starters came out. As for the food itself, it was grand but nothing to write home about. The steaks were quite standard and their chicken was nice. The chicken portions could stand to be a bit more and could use a bit more sauce. The cheesecake and the gataeux were quite nice for dessert.

Pretty good pub food. The seafood chowder was delicious, though I'd personally like more bread or better bread with it. Also had the burger which was delicious. Fun music and a lively place to be.

Great place for a pint and some lunch! We had the chicken and Brie burger (without the bun due to allergies!) and it was great! Also one of the best Irish coffees ever. Service was very friendly too, definitely be returning.

Very busy pub in Temple Bar. Old style pub with lots of nooks and crannies. A well organised hostess got us place. Much friendlier than a lot of places that had overbearing doormen.

  • 1/5 Sarah L. 2 years ago on Google
Thoroughly disappointed with this place. I had made a reservation here on open table, and after i was seated they cancelled my reservation. So now i am not able to review on their. I always look at menus before hand as I have an eating disorder and it makes going to restaurants less anxiety provoking. When i was seated i noticed that the menu they gave me was mush smaller. If I had known I was going to have that set menu I wouldn't have gone, as it is mostly fried food. The restaurants makes it seem through their photos that it is a restaurant, when it is not. It is a pub at best but more like a dive bar. The bathrooms were disgusting. Speaking if bathrooms I was actually seated right next to them, I thought the whole point of having a reservation was that I would be seated in a comfortable area. When ordering I asked my waitress several basic questions like, what is your IPA on tap, and what is your soup of the day. Her answer to each question was I dont know let me go ask. Speaking of the waitress she was up my butt the entire time I was there. I hadn't even sat down until she asked me what I wanted. I then said "may I sit down first". She then went away, and came back two minutes later. Asking what I wanted. I said I am not sure please give me a moment. I finally ordered, and I ordered the fish and chips. They were very greasy and I was very underwhelmed with the portion size for the price. It was one piece of fish on a pile of mediocre fries for almost 20€! PSA go to the Ivy for better fish and chips for a better price. All in all, I will not be recommending this place to anyone, unless they want to be amongst adults that act like animals.
