When you pick up your ticket to go into the Emigration Museum you are given a little card, which is described as your passport, that shows all the rooms that form the different exhibition rooms. In each room you can collect a stamp for that part of your "passport", which adds a fun element to your visit. The different exhibition rooms themselves are really well thought out, telling the stories of individuals who emigrated either forcibly or by choice, as well as some patterns and historical reasons for emigration, which made a significant mark on the history and development of not only Ireland, but also the countries to which they emigrated. Informative, emotional at times and must of all, entertaining. Definitely worth a visit.

During our recent visit to Dublin, my boyfriend Pete and I stumbled upon the EPIC Immigration Museum, and we were pleasantly surprised by what we discovered. We would rate our experience 4 stars! Our entry was made even more appealing thanks to our Go City Card, which included admission. Upon entering, we were given a passport, a unique touch that added an element of fun and engagement to our visit. We eagerly stamped our passports in each room, which turned out to be a delightful surprise. The museum truly lives up to its name - it's EPIC in its scope and offerings. We were amazed by the variety of exhibits and interactive displays that covered a wide range of topics. From Irish literature and sports to criminals, movies, and theatre, there seemed to be a room for every interest. The themed rooms were not only diverse but also incredibly interesting. We found ourselves immersed in the rich history and culture of Ireland, learning about the contributions of immigrants in various fields. The interactive elements added a layer of engagement that made the experience both educational and enjoyable. While we thoroughly enjoyed our visit, we're rating it 4 stars as we believe there's room for improvement in terms of providing even more detailed information in some areas. However, the EPIC Immigration Museum is undeniably a must-visit for those interested in Irish history and culture, and we left with a greater appreciation for the impact of immigration on this beautiful country.

AMAZING experience. The exhibits are all interactive and easy to read/visually engaging. You learn about all aspects of what it is to truly be Irish. You are given a "passport" at the beginning and stamp it in each room you go in (20 in total). The gift shop was nice. There is a LOT to see/read in the exhibits so plan on probably three hours if you want to read everything, or about 60-90 mins if you want a brief understanding but don't want to read/watch each screen.

Excellent museum. Tickets can be booked online. They give you a passport checklist which you stamp each time you finish a section. Very impressed as it shows the history of Irish emigration as well as Irish contributions to the world. Loved how interactive it was and the audiovisuals were definitely top notch. Don’t forget to stamp your passport! I’d recommend this place for all tourists and Irish citizens alike!!

Absolutely loved it! Great to learn about the history of Ireland, immigration and immigration, and enjoyed the audio guide. There is a free audio guide if you're using your phone or you can rent an audio guide for 2 euros. Otherwise very interactive exhibition and the epic passport is a great memorabilia to take away. I must visit in Ireland

One of the best museums I've ever been to. I spent an hour here, and learned a lot about Irish history. Very interesting and highly recommended.

This was our favourite Dublin attraction and it exceeded our expectations. The focus of the Museum goes well beyond the emigration of huge numbers of Irish people over the years. It highlights the contributions of Irish people in many fields such as the arts, sport and politics. It gives visitors a sense of what it means to be Irish. The Museum is beautifully curated and uses multimedia very effectively.

This tour was amazing! Not just the doom and gloom of the time, but full history of the why, how..and what happened next in Irish history and its people. The way they have framed how Irish people have impacted the world is really done well and hugely engaging. The art installation of transport options through time when you first go in is breathtaking. Suitable for all ages and mobility status as its easy to get around. They have this cool Irish passport you are given when you enter and you stamp it yourself and each section, kids loved it! It's located down the quays which is really only a short walk from O'Connell Street or you can get the Luas. Ticket can be reused within 30 days - brilliant idea as we are going back with friends we enjoyed it so much.

We purchased our tickets online prior the visit but you can simply buy the tickets when you get to the EPIC. Great interactive exhibition in individual room and stories of Irish emigrants who became scientists, politicians, poets, artists and even outlaws all over the world. At the beginning of the exhibition, you will be given a "passport" to stamp on from room to room. Highly recommends bringing your own earphones 🎧 so that you can download the Free audio guide from the App instead of paying for their ones. Mainly for hygiene purposes as well. We visited during the week day so it's not crowded at all and there's no queue at main entry.

Excellent experience. Interactive museum exhibitions with all modern technology, steeped in Irish history and culture. It also represents the island of Ireland. For all people North and South. Accessible by the CHQ building. Gift shop has some nice items not found in other shops. Photography is no only allowed it's encouraged. The exhibition passport's are a lovely touch.

The most fantastic museum I have have visited in Ireland in decades. It was above and beyond what I expected. It catered for all ages, so even though alot to do with the emigration was too advanced for my 8 & 4 year old, they were engaged & entertained in every room! I can't recommend it enough. You will not be disappointed. As my son's full time carer, they allowed myself & my son to go free, so I only had to pay for my daughter. So wonderful! And the gift store is fabulous! We bought a whole BAG of fab items

Interactive, as promised, excellent staff, easy to navigate. Beautiful exhibits with moving first hand accounts of the emigrant experience. Every room had a surprise and really kept us engaged and entertained the whole way through. I’m so glad we added this to our day!

One of the most amazing museums I have ever visited. A sad, but at the same time a beautiful story behind it. You can learn so many things about Ireland, the past and the history of Ireland, traditions, music, food, beer and so many other thingsin around 2-3 hours and you can also interact with a lot of the exhibits. It's worth the money and the time. 5/5 ⭐

This is one of the best museums I have ever visited. The displays and multimedia work wonderfully and tie in to make a moving and very peculiar experience. This is a well thought out museum which deals with the subject of immigration and I think anyone will be able to take something from it. I was about to skip it since it a bit away from the main spots, and I would have regretted that decision.

I saw some pictures online from the museum that intrigued me - so I decided to add this place to visit during my Dublin trip. And I was not disappointed whatsoever. This is a very visual and interactive experience, the museum is divided into sections of Irish emigration experiences, with lots of information provided in every room. It's a very modern museum, with nostalgic feeling, when you're reading up the letters people sent during their emigration journeys. It really left me inspired and a bit teared up! Definitely worth a visit!

The EPIC Irish Emigration Museum is an eye-opening experience in Dublin, offering a deep dive into the Irish emigration story. It's interactive and engaging, filled with personal stories and historical insights. I highly recommend visiting the Jeannie Johnston ship tour beforehand, as it sets the perfect historical context and enriches the museum experience. A truly educational and memorable visit!

2nd time I've been here, it's absolutely amazing. If you have Irish connections it'll make you emotional! Interactive screens (now given a rubber pen to use due to covid). Everyone gets a 'passport' to stamp through your journey. Highly recommend. Love, love, love it.

Superbly curated exhibit all around covering Irish heritage and emigration. You travel from room to room to cover different periods and topics. Lots of interactive pieces in the exhibit. They're creative enough to hand out styluses at the start so you don't have to use your hand on the touch screens. They also have plenty of hand sanitizer in every room. I'd say this is my favorite museum so far in Dublin, and I've been here for two years. Highly recommended.

I was totally unprepared to enjoy this museum as much as I did. I’ve been to many museums that are dry and repetitive. EPIC was none of that. They used the vaults beautifully, they used technology with finesse, and they presented a complex story with passion and empathy. As Australians were featured in many of the stories and that really helped. Must see for all ages.

Fantastic! Almost didn't go because we thought it may not be as amazing. Then, we had some spare time and decided to go. It turned out to be one of the best museums I've ever visited. Extremely informative and interactive. It kept my interested the whole time. A nice mix of things. Well laid out. Staff is really friendly and helpful. Very clean and well taken care of. I was so in the zone I didn't even take photos except for this one, since I honestly didn't know this!

Simply wow! The details in explaining the Irish experience/diaspora and the interactive way in which it is displayed is phenomenal. We spent about 2 hours here going at a steady but methodical pace through each section. Definitely download the free audio guide; there is so much you will miss without it.

Absolutely the most emotional museum I’ve ever been to, especially for any Irish emigrants or family of. We took our 3 young children- it’s really not designed for them but the staff gave them passports to stamp in each room which kept them occupied. It’s audio-intensive with excellent attention to detail.

Great place to gain a deeper understanding of Irish immigration. The building itself is also very interesting. The museum is underground and interactive. We bought tickets online in advance but there was very little queue. Inside the building are toilet facilities for free, restaurants and Starbucks.

We enjoyed the map of the museum in the shape of a passport. However, it is important to underline that the information displayed inside lacked objectivity. Compared to other national museums, the entrance fee is on the pricier side (21€ for adults, 18€ for students) which seems to fund the very elaborate and technological installations, which we enjoyed, but the amount of information is proportionally less. I highly recommend using their free audioguide app in order to learn as much as is possible, or you can choose the 2€ guided tour. Once you exit the museum, the structure houses several shops, and among them their gift shop sells similar items as other souvenir shops but for a cheaper price! All in all it was a satisfying experience but less educational than we had expected.

I went with two kids aged 5 and 9 and they enjoyed it for a few minutes, but it's not a museum really, it's an interactive experience. There are no exhibits of any kind. Basically there's a few screens telling you what you already know and then you step into the gift shop. If you want a genuine museum experience, go up the road to the Museum of Ireland. I went there with the same two kids and they really, really loved it. Actual exhibits! Cool stuff! I do not recommend EPIC to anybody, it's truly terrible unless you have no knowledge of Irish history at all.

It should be a place for Irish people to know some history. I'm not Irish and I don't have anything in common with Ireland. But this place is a look into the future for the people coming for Eastern Europe or other places that have a high emigration rate. One day, this museum will be an example for similar ones in those countries. Absolutely worth visiting no matter who you are.

Lots of information and a very artistic layout. For every room, there's a different topic of history covered. At the very start, you get this passport, that you need to stamp in every room. It's more of an adult/older child experience. But younger kids can enjoy it too.

My university organised the visit and honestly it was interesting, but not what I expected. There are lots and lots of tvs playing videos and I got a bit tired of them, it was like an overload of information transmitted in a way that bored rather easily. Also none of the videos had subtitles which I consider is a rather big issue. However I feel like I have a better understanding, not only of Irish culture, but also of immigration as a whole.

I cannot recommend this Santa experience highly enough, wow!, my 4 year old is normally very shy with Santa but loved this experience, even wanted to go in again. All the staff were so friendly and helpful. The muesum itself was so incredibly interesting. Loved the Christmas tree pathway into Santa and the photos are beautiful and such quality. Very tasty hot chocolate and bun. Santas gift was lovely and very age appropriate, many thanks to all involved. Would definitely be back again next year, absolutely well worth the money.

I've done my fair share of museums, but this one was really impressive. The amount of interaction offered is impressive. All sorts of games, displays and informative signs. There is a free audio guide that you can download and you get a 'passport' that you can stamp in every room that doubles as a map of the museum. A great museum for kids as well! Definitely worth the entrance price, so don't hesitate and put this on your to-do list. One last hint: pre-booking online saves 2 euros 😉

A really surprise museum with very detailed information on how Irish emigrate affecting the world. The museum journey was really well designed, with different sections by first illustrating why When and What Irish emigrated moved. Then there is a huge sections on saying what these Irish affect and contribute to different societies, and how Irish culture influences everyone daily life. With the visiting of this museum, it really give us a refreshing understanding of the influence of Irish people. The interactive elements and the “passport” of the museums do help us to understand those information easier. Highly recommended to visit here if you come to Dublin. That could really help to give people a better background of Irish history and culture.

I have a keen interest in history and enjoyed my visit. The tour guide was very good. I do think however the museum is overrated and would leave it short two stars for the following reasons- 1. There is not much to interest younger kids. I would only bring the kids if they are teens and have some interest in history. 2. This is an experience museum, with interactive displays. There are no artefacts which is what I love to look at most going to museums. While there are some stunning visual displays it's all a bit samey. They do a passport that allows you to revisit within a set time period. So all on balance a nice visit but if I was advising a tourist only doing one I would definitely do the national history museum at Collins Barracks or the Natural History museum instead.

A great and immersive experience! I really learned alot about emigration through the years, and about achievements of Irish descendants. The "exhibitions" are also beautifully curated and the whole experience is well thought out. However, it feels like the museum is made for foreigners with Irish descent, such as Irish-Americans. A way to be proud and learn about their Irish culture and heritage. So in summary; great experience, but maybe not the best museum if you want to learn about Irish history and culture.

I don’t like museums BUT this one was so well made and an adventure to explore around. My interest and amazement was constant throughout the museum. It was beautiful to show that despite the suffering and hard times, the Irish raised themselves up and created a name for themselves through music, sports, and overall life. It is a very deep memorial that I as a child of an immigrant connect so deeply with. There’s a stamp activity you can do that makes you so excited for the next exhibit!

A very modern and visually attractive exhibition that would appeal mostly to the local audience, as the non-Irish might find it bit boring. Regrettably it doesn’t show the role that Ireland have taken for the last 25 years attracting the immigrants in. Each of the 20-odd rooms show a different aspect of the way that Irish moved around the globe with morsels of information on it- and I would dare to say there might have been even more information offered. Most of the exhibition is composed of custom-made instalments and models, which definitely look cool, but I would wish a bit more authentic memorabilia and everyday objects showcased. How did the travel across the Atlantic looked like? What did the travellers held in their suitcases? Apart from the obvious US/Australia destinations, are the Irish present in some more exotic or surprising places, like Japan, Nepal or Antarctic? The room on St Patric’s Day, with screens on all the walls showing smiling people- all good and well, but why the Irish celebrate that day in the first place and what is the social role bringing the Irish together on that day? The museum should give you answers to your questions, whereas we left a bit confused with even more questions than before. I would easily find grounds to compare the exhibition with Titanic Belfast, which the latter showcasing a coherent and very attractive story line on the people emigrating across the pond with a well known ship being only an excuse. I think that EPIC misses that spot. It seems to me it’s a museum targeted at the school trips from towns outside Dublin, for the education of the younger generation. I don’t think it’s that attractive for the families as the kids would find it a bit boring, with no that many elements they could touch, push, operate and have fun with. Also I wish the exhibit have shown a more recent side of the emigration- the fact that for the last 20 years the roles have changed and Ireland serves as a destination for emigration of many foreign nationals looking for a better life. This is an Irish contemporary reality, I think it would be important to showcase that. All in all, it is a very attractive museum visually but one that mostly the Irish would find amusing. I don’t think it’s a must for a tourist visiting Dublin for couple of days. And especially that prices aren’t that low either.

An interactive museum with a good overview of Irish cultural influence around the world and the impact of emigration on Ireland itself. It's must-see for anyone with children or those who want an easy gateway to Irish culture and the global influence of Irish immigrants. Knowing the basics, I was hoping for more depth but it's still worth seeing.

We visited the exposition. We liked that there is an audio guide which you may install on your phone and idea with stamping in your own passport. The museum is quite big, and there is a lot of information from different sources. So, we spent more than 2 hours in the museum and still think that we missed some information while visiting. I suggest visiting the museum several times to be able to discover more and more interesting info.

Having read amazing reviews of this establishment. I decided I must pay a visit and I am very grateful that I did. Right from the begining the staff make the experience as personal as they can by asking basic questions and giving easy to understand and concise information on how the experience operates. The muesum itself is information packed, it is very easy to get immersed in the experience. There is a very modern but unique use of technology throught the experience. It is near impossible to get disintrested throughout the establishment. The staff are always willing to offer suplementary information and are geninuely kind to all the customers. It is a very worthwile and unforgetable experience.

Museum visit is brilliant, so much information, well laid out and lots of interactive exhibits for anyone who doesn't like too much reading. Museum suitable for all ages, definitely recommend it. All Covid restrictions and recommendations adhered to.

Had a fantastic morning at the Santa experience at EPIC, my great niece who is 4 loved every minute. From the waiting area with the very chatty and attentive elf’s to the hot chocolate and mini cupcake she smiled and laughed all the way round. Santa was gorgeous and she loved the chats with him, the staff were so helpful and attentive and although she is too young for many of the stories, added extras like stamping the passport and looking for the flags really kept her interested. The art stations are a great idea and she really enjoyed the origami station, the elf there was very attentive. A really enjoyable and entertaining visit, with a present right at the end, she loved it. Thank you all the staff that made this so enjoyable.

Wonderful experience. The installations are wonderfully varied and placed. It's great to take a trip back through the history of emigration in Ireland. You get a "passport" to stamp when you pass through each section, which is a lovely touch. EPIC is a must for everyone!!!

Great museum for those looking to understand a bit more about Irish emigration from the very early years. It's very interactive and you could spend hours in there if you were to read all the stories throughout the exhibition. It took us more than 2h to go through all rooms and it was a nice activity. Now during the pandemic we're all asked to wear masks and keep out distance - although some of the rooms were a bit crowded at times.

When i wrote review about Guinness Storehouse i said 1/100. Epic is 2/100. And here is why. If you are first time in Dublin, and if you like to know more about Irish migrations, great Irish culture and writers, famous irish dance, science or art - this is a place to go. Concept is contemporary, multimedia is all around, design is outstanding, tour is very engaging. Tour last for around 2hrs. Must see spot. #epic

Beautifully laid out - Ideal for social distancing. Interesting and engaging presentations with interactive elements also. Fantastic location, easily accessible, bright, airy with a food and beverage and other retail outlets on site too, as well as a well stocked, reasonably priced gift shop. Not a consideration for us, but it appeared to me to ideal for wheelchair access, or for those with reduced/limited mobility. The only downside for me - and its a personal thing - was a lack of displays of historical items. I like to look at those!! There were some, but very few. Also, having booked, I found myself in the position of not being able to go on the date booked. This happened twice!! On both occasions I spoke with very friendly and professional staff who rebooked us for a different date without issue. Also, I came away feeling that it would be an ideal starting point for anyone looking to explore other places in Ireland. Epic highlighted many places and people of interest and it could definitely provide pointers for further places of interest. A fun day out, highly recommended...

When we went out from the museum to thought gift shop staff said you can download the application guide in Epic sorry, we are leaving.. does we need go again this toure ? Why staff at the entrance did not tell us for recommendation. She said you can read, sorry, there is lots to read.. to read all is will take 8h Not for Kids ( Mine 7 and 13 year old )

This is the best museum I habe ever been to. It's not only interactive, but it takes you on a real journey with a background story. I've been here two years ago and I still think of my visit every now and then. I'll definitely visit Dublin again, even if only to come back to this museum!

This place is really cool.. We spent around 3 hours inside without even realise it. Very informative, a few interactions and the stamp thing is a brilliant idea. Super entertaining!

I really loved the experience. The way each room was laid out and the cute passport stamps you get are such a cute touch. My husband and I didn't know how long to allocate here and ended up taking about 3 hours but you easily take it slower and spend a whole day. They also had lockers so didn't need to cart everything around which was an added bonus. Would Recommend!

Exceptional. A fascinating tour through the emigration experience as well as the input the Irish have had on the world - musical, technological, literary, scientific, political. Theist goes on. Interactive exhibits as well as videos. Well worth a visit. The only downside ... it comes to an end!

  • 5/5 Sharon C. 2 years ago on Google
Really interesting, and so much information on Irish emigration. The exhibits are really interactive with lots of detail. Highly recommend! Give yourself 1.5-2hrs to be able to make the most of it.

Amazing museum, definitely worth the visit. The experience is highly interactive and enjoyable. You can learn a lot about Irish history and culture from the museum. A visit will take you around 90 minutes, but you stay as long as you want and go through it at your own pace .

  • 4/5 Rob S. 2 years ago on Google
It was a fun modern museum and I've learnt more about Ireland. Yet, it's more an experience than a museum. I'd suggest 3 things in which they could've improved: I'd have expected more items/relics that correspondent with those migration days. It's barely there. Also, it'd have been nice to see more stories/small films from common people, instead of arty folks. Third, it would have been nice if there was more to read. Now it feels it's very much focused on touch screens, to make sure American Gen Z doesn't lose their attention within 1 minute. Well, I think this is a losing battle. At least make it possible for people to read more about a topic instead of having to do the audio tour :)

Wonderful and enlightening experience about not just those who emigrated but their families

  • 5/5 Ryan W. 1 year ago on Google
A lively and innovative museum which is completely different from the traditional ones. The use of new technologies and the artworks probably are the proofs themselves to tell what the Irish have been contributing to the world positively. The exhibits were well organised and were able to highlight how the Irish overcame the difficulties and eventually getting better lives, and preserving their cultures even after leaving the country. A visit is highly recommended.

Very interactive museum that allows people to gain a better understanding of Irish emigration history through music, politics and many other points of view. I also found the idea of the passport really great.

This is a must visit when in Dublin! The museum takes you through the history of migration of the Irish people. The entire experience is an immersive one, and has all kinds of touch points into the real stories of immigrants.

The idea behind this exhibition is great and I really was impressed by the interactive nature of some of the exhibitions, they really were first rate! Some of the claims that famous people were of Irish ancestry were a little desperate. I really liked the passport idea but felt that there are just one of two too many stages to visit. I spent three hours there, and enjoyed the first 150 minutes of it. Worth a visit though!

We really enjoyed the museum and the Jeanie Johnston was very moving. Excellent presentation by our guide on the ship, Eoin, brought the history to life. Would recommend for both adults and children.

Very nice exhibition giving a glance of what Irish culture is like, it's origin and history. The museum is highly interactive and manages to keep you entertained throughout the experience. The animations are the best I've ever encountered in a museum. Totally recommended!

My second visit and it is well named for it truly is epic. Covers all aspects of the Irish diaspora from sports, music, medicine, etc.. The tour starts with the reasons for emigrating then continues to evolve through the years to the present day. Minimum 90 minutes to see it properly. The interactive displays are very evocative and can provoke emotional feelings. There is lots of reading on the displays and several little theatre type settings with 5 min films. Upstairs at the exit is a family history centre and gift shop. The famine ship, Jeannie Johnson, is docked across the street and can be toured.

It's hard not to be impressed after you visit this museum. The history, the stories, the people and the struggle they faced over the years, it's truly a touching experience. Also, the way that the museum it's made and designed it's extraordinary. Definitely a must see while in Dublin!

One of the most interesting museums if you are interested in migrations. I also found many links with Italian migration stories.
