Try to go early in the morning before it’s people-y. The hour tour of the campus is nice, we did not end up doing the audio tour because it was so busy and we couldn’t turn around. So we saw the book and library. Seeing the book & library is about 30 minutes. The tour is about an hour. If they did one way traffic flow it would have been much more enjoyable.

It was amazing to see the book of Kells, I recommend to do the audio tour that you can download on your phone. This will give you an insight and deep understanding about the book. Very beautiful book and beautifully written. What an amazing thing to see. The long room took my breath away, I loved seeing all the books and the beautiful room. You have to come and see this if your in Dublin I highly recommend.

Great experience. Loved seeing the inside of the library and the history. Tess does one heck of a tour. Highly recommended as she’s a historian and went to the actual school. Quite funny as well.

You have to book the tickets in advance, as the tickets usually sold out before the day. And just to be sure, be there ten minutes before your slot. It takes 30-60 minutes to visit, where you can see the original Book of Kells, a book containing the four gospels of the bible. Before the book, there are posters showing and describing the book. No flash photography at the exhibition. After that, you can enter a room to look at the book itself. Sadly, you can only look at two pages of the book. I asked and they say the book will be flipped by professional handlers every 6-8 weeks. No photography allowed in the room to preserve the book. The ticket will also include the visit to the Old Library and the Long Room, which is one of the prettiest library in the world. You can take pictures of busts of famous people. Do keep quiet as some students actually study in that library! There is a downloadable app if you are interested for a free audio guide, and there is 10% off if you show the app at the till for the gift shop.

The exhibition is very nice and well kept and displayed. I gave a four star 🌟 ranking instead of five star 🌟 just because they let in too many visitors at one go, and you could barely read the information displayed on the boards. I had to wait for some time to let some of the visitors move on. Otherwise, everything else was fine.

I highly recommend visiting the book of Kells at Trinity College,Dublin. Just incredible. You get a glimpse at one of the most important artistic books of the medieval world. One of the most beautiful libraries in the world from 1700's,then see an original copy of proclamation of our independence from 1916 AND the finely decorated Brian Boru Harp from 1400's? All hugely symbolic of our national history. 10/10

The book itself is pretty spectacular to see in person. You can only see the page that its open to that day (they occasionally change them), and it's behind glass with special lighting. No photos allowed. The attached library is amazing as well, which includes one of the original prints of the Proclamation. There's also Brian Boru's harp and a few other amazing artifacts. It's a working library and you can see where the librarians and "readers" work. Great piece of Irish history.

I wasn’t massively impressed. I was really excited and for the price and amount of information it was a bit of a let down. I would’ve liked a fake copy of the Book that one could look though or maybe a wall of photographs of the pages. I do think they had a lot of fascinating and useful information in the museum section however I think there could have been a variety of presentation in the information. The long room was breathtaking. I do appreciate they are taking such lengths to preserve the books which means they aren’t necessarily able to be viewed by the public. It seems you need to spend quite a bit of money to get a great experience from the Book of Kells. One tour for the next day for both rooms was 400 euros, so there must be a high demand for such tours. I felt it was a bit overpriced and I almost wish I had skipped the Book of Kells. You have to book through a QR code so I’d recommend booking in advance since they have tours every 30 minutes and may sell out.

Wonderful Experience. Well worth the visit. It's such a piece of history and the amount of work that went into making it is incredible.

Sep23- At €18.50 it's not an inexpensive visit for a walk around a large room of scaled up pages and text on the Book of Kells. Interesting. History. Colourful. Library and Long Room was very interesting too and ability to see Gaia too (personification of Earth and modernity and looking after it against the old library and preserving it too).

All I can say is wow! This place is so beautiful right within the breathtaking campus of Trinity College in Dublin! There was so much historical information regarding the Book of Kells and even though you cannot take photos of the actual book it was cool to see in person. The main library was so huge and the architecture of the library was amazing! If I had a library looking like that back at home I would be there in a heartbeat haha! Truly amazing! Recommend going there at least once

This self-tour was one of our favorites in Dublin. The Book of Kells exhibit was very informative, which you walk through before seeing the book itself. Keep in mind that they don’t let you take photos of it. After seeing The Book of Kells, you then walk into the library which is pretty awe-inspiring. Something overlooked is the smell, which is incredible if you like that old book/bookstore smell. You can take as much time as you like throughout the entire tour. We had our tour earlier in the morning which works out well as there was a long line waiting by the time we got out. After the library the tour ends and you walk downstairs through a large gift shop that sells a little bit of everything.

My recommendation before visit this place is to read about it and maybe watch some videos... Otherwise you won't find it interesting. Did not care so much about the book museum as much as the impressive Long Room. It's absolutely stunning and well kept. So much to see and appreciate. Glad we visited during COVID-19 times since it gave us the opportunity to see more of the room and not pple trying to take and IG picture. It is pricey for what you actually see and the fact that you do not get a tour guide .. only an audio one.. which when you are a tourist and your data plan doesn't work as great as in your country... Well that's not so useful.

I was disappointed by the book of kells exhibit. Really you just walk around a series of informative poster for ~$20. The book isn’t even opened to a particularly beautiful page. The library is really cool - but there are nearly no books! All the books are being cleaned and stored.

Very cool place. I would highly recommend you get tickets in advance otherwise you may not be able.you can purchase online or through tours. Head to trinity college and just past main courtyard on the right.Directly across the entrance is a bathroom and cafe which I would go to first then go on tour. The first part is mainly historical and background. Once you get past that portion you going to the main library and it's just an amazing site. I highly recommend this place it's just one of those things you have to do.

One of the most attractive sites in Dublin. Buying the tickets in advance is recommended, via online, as well as download audio guidance. The exhibition is very nice and easily accessible for everyone including wheelchair users. Very beautiful colorful Book of Kells. One of the real books is exhibited in the dark room, very beautiful, photography is prohibited for protecting the book. Long room is a very nice place. All staff are very friendly and helpful.

Had a really engaging tour from Ethan from Trinity Trails. Very interesting stories and an excellent guide! We went in early September before lectures started and the campus was so calm and pleasant. The book of Kells exhibition was informative and the library impressive even with some of the books removed for restoration

Overpriced at €18,- per person for something that takes about 30 minutes to see everything. The Great Hall was gorgeous!

The tour is taking 10/15 minutes to complete. The library is stunning, and it is worth to visit it. I gave 3 stars cause I believe that 16 euros is way too much. It is worth 7 to 10 euro, not more.

The Book of Kells is an incredible library that is for sure worth visiting. Beware to buy tickets in advance and await outside in line for your specific time. The only problem with this visit is that they should limit further the number of tickets per visit slot since it was very packed inside it.

An amazing experience. This is self guided, but use the technology onsite, slow down and try to understand why it's unique. Noticed a lot of people just walking through not learning the "Why" Amazing history

Absolutely incredible experience! Although there are not many books left in the long room due to restoration it is still a must see! Especially with the Earth exhibition. The book of Kells experience was very informative and the audio-guides were interesting but not long winded. The second interactive experience was amazing, could have stayed and watched it all day. An absolute must do in Dublin

The Book of Kells exhibit had some great information in the audio tour that helped me appreciate the artifact. The Book has amazing color and the level of detail in such small drawings is stunning. The long library was also beautiful, even with them in the process of removing the books to prepare for a restoration.

The book of Kelly's experience was amazing. The audio guide, download yourself so take headphones, was very interesting. To be able to see such a historic document is a privilege. When you get to the long room, prepare to be cobsmacked. In here you also get to see the original harp that is used as the emblem for Ireland and on the Guinness logo. After you leave the long room you go to a new area full of technological images. Particularly the animated busts that replicate the ones in the long room. They actually move and have a conversation with themselves!!

The book of Kells is a book written by Irish abbots located and treasured in the old library of the Trinity College. The library itself contains a lot of bookshelves and head statues. Even though it contains a second floor, currently it is not open to the visitors. A lot of the books are currently not on the shelves because of a current maintenance and digitalizing the books. There is an Earth globe on the center of the library. The exhibition fully explains the creation of the book of Kells, and why is this religious book unique compared to a bible. Outside of the exhibition, there is a red gift shop center and a more interactive exhibition about the book of kells. The ticket allows the visitor to checkout the old library and the interactive exhibition.

I found the tour of this museum to be extremely interesting and insightful. The art pieces displayed here are so beautiful that they seem to be from a movie. Although we visited during the restoration period, it was still worth seeing and reading about the fascinating history of this museum. I highly recommend taking a stop here, even if it's just for taking pictures.

The library is currently undergoing restoration but still looks very impressive. The audio guide was very entertaining; would recommend bringing your own headphones otherwise you have to hold your phone up to your ear to hear the guide. It only took around 1 hour to complete the tour, see the book, and the library.

Really enjoyable, very informative. Loved the immersive experience. Decent gifts in the gift shop and reasonably priced. I felt sorry for some tourists who couldn't use the guide on their phone because the WiFi was broken. Delighted to see the 1916 Proclamation displayed, and the Book itself is amazing. Well worth visiting, overall.

Have to say that left me speechless. One of the best museums of Dublin city. Very quiet, I joined every moment of the visit. Buy tickets online in advance.

Absolutely amazing history and library. You will see a very well preserved book from 800 AD, one of the books of kells. The old library is brilliant too, with a 3D art installation called Gaia. The giant globe is actually out of place and the rotational motor makes a lot of noise in an otherwise silent library. Overall, a great place to visit.

  • 5/5 Pauline 4 months ago on Google
An absolutely gorgeous library with a lot more to offer than ‘just’ the historically significant Book of Kells. The exhibition around the Book of Kells was amazingly detailed, with a free audio tour besides (through an app — there is free wifi to download it with, should you need that). I thought the audio tour itself was great, with two different narrators and some nice music, too. The old library was just beautiful. It’s a shame we visited during the big renovations they’re doing, because there weren’t many books on the shelves, but it was still a wonderful experience I’d highly recommend!

We visited the Book of Kells experience. There is 3 different type of tickets, we took one that includes 2 buildings: One with a actually Book of Kells: there is a room with information and photos, one black room with only Book (you can't make photo there) and a long room-library with a huge moving Earth. There is a women's statues, which is very cool, and old harp. The second building is a new house (red box) with a video-story of the book. Very beautiful! And gift-shop. Tickets online.

  • 5/5 Sajedeh N. 3 months ago on Google New
The whole experience was super & exciting. I recommended it to my friends. Great effort. Only Disappointing & almost irreversible part was the huge steel soulless red box built irrelevant to all these beautiful historical buildings surrounding it that can ruin the mood of every visitor expecting what to see in that space.

  • 5/5 Julie C. 4 months ago on Google
Very interesting exhibit. The book itself is beautiful. The long library is also worth a look. Kind of pricey to get in, but once in a lifetime experience.

Nice place to learn more about the book of Kells and medieval writing techniques. The library is also impressive to see. All in all it's not that big and you should be done in 1-2 hours if you read a lot of the texts. Be aware that the place can be extremely crowded.

Every people visiting the city must visit this place, easy to get a ticket online and really good tour. I strongly recommend to get the audio tour to know more about the book of kells.

A very nice museum for both tourists and locals. The library is gorgeous and worth seeing. But, it is very small (two rooms overall), therefore take it into consideration while planning the day.

Both the book's display and the library were majestic. It's a must see location. Tickets were booked fast in advance. The only downside is that it's not included in the Dublin pass

A beautiful and magical place, only when you enter in the library you are obsessed with the details and is like the time stops. It's a little bit short but it's not just staying and looking ( you need to stay listen to the audio and enter in the history).I loved it.

  • 5/5 Aryel T. 2 years ago on Google
Beautiful library full of history. Worth it if you're into libraries and books. Tickets are a bit pricey. The audio tour is nice, but you get practically the same by reading the pamphlet and the text on the walls.

  • 5/5 Gabriel 2 years ago on Google
Loved the library and Book of Kells. The free audio companion was great and provided great detail to it's history. Free wifi to download the audio app. You can purchase the tickets online as well. There's also a gift shop to get buy some souvenirs if you wish.

Wow. Impressive library. Loved the audio guide which takes you back in time and also the smell inside the Long room. Definitely a place to be on anyone's list of places to visit in Dublin.

Medieval Church history buffs will love the scholarship that has gone into the exhibition that prefaces the viewing of the book itself. My guess is that scarcely a handful of tourists have ever heard of the Book of Kells much less have an idea of what it is. The intricacy of the artwork alone makes this exhibition worthwhile. Happily, due to CoViD, we were able to set a time, buy tickets and walk right in. I have seen photos of hundreds of tourists queued up for hours in Disneyland-esque fashion waiting to get in. Glad that wasn't me!!

  • 4/5 Mohtaseem S. 5 months ago on Google
It's an interesting piece of history when you visit this place. It talks about the book of Kells and it's significance in history. The book itself seems to be very beautifully written with depictions. Photos are not allowed where the real book is kept. The photos that are seen online are from the library and to be fair alot of people come to get a nice click of this library. When I visited almost all books in the library were under restoration. The place is very photogenic.

18 e for visiting it is too much. Library was nice but in Europe you can find many many alternatives. Book of Kells not left any lasting impression

What an amazing area this is on the campus of a school. The oldest library is here located and it was absolutely stunning! If you're considering is it worth paying €18 (because we were) it is!!!

Fascinating, historical port of call in Dublin! Walk around at your own pace listening to guided commentary on your own devices pausing, going back if you need more time. Great facility in good condition! Definitely recommend this !

Totally enjoyed it. Arrived to the place without a ticket. You can buy one using a QR code while waiting in the line. By the way, I was there at 11:50 and only tickets for 13:00 (1 pm) were available. Inside a self audio guide and a leaflet in few languages. The exposition is rather short, but incredible and worth waiting in the queue. The stuff checks the ticket really quickly.

I went at 9am and it was still busy so I don’t know how you get a picture of it deserted if that’s even possible anymore. Exhibit is good. Pretty short at 30 mins maximum to see everything. As a joiner it was good to check out the craftsmanship

If you like seeing beautiful libraries you're in for a treat. On the impressive campus of Trinity College, this tour starts with an exploration of a number of ancient Irish biblical texts culminating in an up close view of the famous Book of Kells. Then pass into the long room/library filled with two stories of tightly-packed shelves, an original copy of the Irish declaration of Independence, and the oldest extant Irish Harp which was used to model the insignia of Ireland. Takes about an hour to tour the exhibit depending on your pace.

  • 5/5 Robert E. 8 months ago on Google
All of Trinity College was a delight to see. Walked about a bit on my own until I decided to take a tour. Got a fantastic tour guide from the US named Katie who walked us through campus, a few buildings and gave us entry to the Book of Kells exhibition and the library. Fantastic that the students themselves give the tour and Katie (I think) was very charismatic. Sadly all books were taken out for restoration but it's interesting to see the place in a state it's not normally in. Might go back once the books have been returned.

  • 5/5 Calvin L. 5 months ago on Google
Basically a required stop in Dublin if you can drag yourself away from the pubs. When it comes to the book itself you are at the mercy of trinity college in terms of which page will be on display when you visit. On my visit it was one of the less detailed pages unfortunately. However, if you're interested in the history abs context of the book then the exhibit before the actual book is fascinating. The library afterwards was gorgeous.
