I've not been to prison but I reckon it's better than this. If you like dirty rooms, mouldy bathrooms and your toilet seat detached from the toilet then this is for you. I stayed for two nights with some friends. Location is good and that's about all it's got going for it. Everything is dirty and the communal bathroom areas were disgusting. I didn't see any cleaners on either of the two days I stayed. Potentially Covid started here and not on the other side of the planet. There was also a sign on the one of the bathrooms asking visitors to not use the water due to an ongoing issue, no sign of the issue being fixed. I don't mind a late night and some drinks but the walls were so thin you could hear the next room clearly. Noise till the late hours. Some of the reviews giving 5/5 have either been paid to do that or work there I reckon. Avoid this hostel if you want a good nights kip and to not catch something.

one of the most horrible experiences i have ever made. It seems more like a homeless-accommondation. Crackheads at every corner. This place is not suitable for student-trips or holidays, it is just awful, dirty, nasty and creepy. If you are looking for perfect trip to Dublin on a low budget, dont go here!!! there is a a big amount of better places for low prices.

Excellent location but I've had the worst nights of my life in that place. The rugs were so filthy I couldn't walk barefooted. The toilets were all clogged up and I had to go to nearby coffeeshops every morning! I couldn't gather the courage to take a shower because I felt like I'd end up dirtier. Please for your own sake, don't book a night there.

Truly the one of the grossest place I have stayed at so far. The bathrooms were disgusting and the rooms smelled terrible. The building was very old, and climbing up four flights of stairs to get to your room was not fun. Barely any outlets to charge for everyone in the room. Showers would stay on for maybe 5 seconds before turning off. The gathering area downstairs was small and gross as was the kitchen. The people in the rooms were very loud all throughout the night keeping up their neighbors. Not a good experience, would not recommend

The ONLY good thing about this hostel was that it was in a relatively decent location. It was in walking distance to many locations. The downside is it was dirty. As in we wouldn’t even put our feet on the ground in our private en-suite room in our socks to get dressed, definitely bring shower shoes, the wall was coming apart, and there was actual black mold…in multiple locations. It is VERY over priced! The glowing green light in the evening made it harder to sleep than the noise outside, which is expected for the location. I understand the light in dorms but not the private rooms. It was so bright, that’s why we purposely got a private room.

Filthy! The bathrooms were disgusting and completely filthy. Would not recommend. Wouldn't dare touch anything as it looked all covered in dirt and grim. The room itself was below average for a hostel. Way better hostels in Dublin city...

The most disrespectful staff I have ever encountered at a hostel. One of the cleaning ladies who is short, Irish and walks with a limp was a very insulting and complete nightmare to even be around. She would literally storm in your room while you are still sleeping and verbally complain about hating the job as she “cleaned.” After staying in many hostels, I have never encountered such a poor experience with a hostel worker. In the morning during the free breakfast, she would rudely bump into you WHILE you were trying to get your breakfast, she has done this multiple times to other backpackers and they all agreed how mentally disturbed she was. I did not feel safe around this woman at all, nor did I feel comfortable leaving my belongs in the room, even in a locker, while she was in there. It’s almost as if she were hired right off the street and thrown into the job. But if she hates the job so much, why even bother working there?! Another worker, who called himself the “manager” who said his name was Lawrence was working the front desk. He was also an incredibly rude worker. The rooms were incredibly dirty, dusty, stains on every bed sheet and pillow case. Bathrooms were caked in mold and mildew. The bathroom doors were broken and didn’t even shut! Kinlay house in Dublin is THE WORST hostel I have ever stayed at and I feel so sorry for the staff that work there and have tried their best to make it a good experience. The picture included in this review was a corner of where your head head will be while sleeping. If you’re ok with sleeping right next to a spider nest, than you’ll be fine! Do yourself a favor and AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST. I would have asked for a refund, but I figured they could use it to hire someone to clean the place. Keep it! The free breakfast was nice though 👍🏽

Strict, no-compromise cancellation policy I have booked at this hostel for the next day in the afternoon. In fact, I had nowhere to sleep for the weekend in Dublin and everything was booked, so it was just in case. I managed to book something within the same hour in Cork and go there instead. I understand the cancellation policy is 48hrs before - but OBVIOUSLY, I booked within 12-hours of the check-in, so this policy can't apply. In good faith, I contacted the hostel to explain the situation and seek a compromise. For example, since I booked for two nights, I would have thought paying for only one and freeing my reservation for both night would be acceptable. I just received a blunt answer saying "It is not possible according to our cancellation policy". Basically, the hostel cancelled my booking as per my request, and then rented the bed to someone else, making double the money for the same spot. I expect some kind of discussion or customer service and this is extremely disappointing. I have travelled extensively and managed to find compromises many times, even sometimes after showing at the hostel and not being satisfied. I also called Trip.com and explained the situation, they tried to contact the hostel and seek an arrangement... again, nothing possible. Sorry, I don't like putting 1-star ratings, but a bit of openness and discussion is the strict minimum. Book elsewhere if you want some kind of costumer service.

No recommended The lock only common room and kitchen at 11pm, no chair or table at all available sit. No chair in the rooms. Never said before booking. Unfair. Unfriendly staff, no irish , all international staff, not interested in guests. Not prepared for basic infos I expect, no good impression of staff. Friends were woken up during night 2am by drunken room mates and pushed and no change of room was offered. Things were stolen from rooms. I was lucky with room mates. Nice french students. People smoking at windows. Breakfast very basic, only milk coffee, toast honey. No mugs, waste paper cups. Bathroom, clean and dry, can't confirm bad reports in this matter.

Genuinely one of the worst hostels I've ever stayed in. The shower in the ensuite was cold and didn't drain so there was just a huge puddle in the bathroom. Kitchen is grim, barely any pots and pans and the stoves work only sometimes. In the dorms there is a huge bright green light on the ceiling that is on 24/7. Carpets are stained and disgusting. I left without the free breakfast because I wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. If you're still on the fence after reading all these bad reviews, do yourself a favour and don't stay here.

Great experience there. Only stayed for one night. Breakfast is provided in the morning, however, both the food and table space to sit down is lacking if you get up late. Comfy beds but they are a bit shaky if your sleeping on top bunk. I have told friend of mine to stay here as well and they loved it.

This hostel offers the bare minimum to be called a hostel. The value for the money paid is so-so. Firstly, they didn't have warm water in the bathrooms when I arrived and it took them one day to fix it. Secondly, there are very little trash bins and after a day or two they are full and smelly. The level of cleanliness is below any standards, I am not even sure if here is a daily cleaning service as trash is laying all around. Lastly, there are some random people sleeping in the common area, no one knows who they are or where they come from.

Central located but quite filthy rooms especially for that price. There was no soap whatsoever in the quite dirty bathroom. On top of that we had a bright green light which you couldnt turn of directly shining on our beds.

We had a family room with private bathroom. This place was a lot more comfortable and clean than the A&O hostel we stayed in earlier that week. We also paid twice as much for this hostel. Amazing a hostel can cost so much. Our room had a good size window we could leave open to air out the place and cool it down. Still hot at night. The bathroom was ok. The bedding was decent. The room was clean and more spacious than others we've had. The location was nice for easily going out and walking to see everything. But it was plenty noisy through the night with yelling and trucks and what not. It wasn't the worst but we wouldn't stay here again. Unfortunately Dublin is so expensive we probably wouldn't return.

Management mistakenly did a duplicate booking, then said I won’t be charged and charged me manually and without telling anyway the next day. Then they wouldn’t admit their mistake and simply wouldn’t take responsibility for their employee (saying he’s not the owner or manager so his say doesn’t count). Shocking.

Really really bad experience. We paid for two nights in a 10 bed dorm, and as soon as we walked in to the room we could smell a really awful body odor/mold smell. We tried to tolerate it for the two nights, but in the morning my boyfriend woke up with a horrible puffy eye (he has a mold allergy and even with antihistamines he still had a reaction). We had to go to the emergency room to get help, and then book a last minute air bnb for the second night. Kinlay refused to offer us a refund or even just switch our rooms. It turned into an expensive nightmare during what was supposed to be a fun vacation. Would NOT recommend.

This place is a disaster, stay away! Extremely dirty, disgusting, no hot water, no regulation of heating. Worse than prison cells and not even cheap. Whoever owns it, shame on you, it's a total scam. For this price you can deliver a proper cleaning, at least.

Absolute disgrace. DONT BOOK THIS HOSTEL! I booked for 2 nights with my friends, left after 1 'horror night' (including an arrestation team searching for a guest, a roommate threatening us for our lives, puke in the hallway, fire alarm ringing at 05:30...) At some point I thought I was being pranked by my friends.... Not, unfortunately not. You definitely do not want to stay here!

I canceled my booking morning, I had to, because I issued a visa problem at the airport and could not arrive the hostel. Then shocking customer experience from place, they charged full amount money from my account. it is horrible experience. I never ever stay this kind of place, never choose again. Anyone, please choose your place for staying. 1 euro less means they treat you like sht. No understanding.

I had the 6 in one room for 3 nights and I had a very good experience at this hostel. The location is great and prices for Dublin are good and beds are clean and shower warm. Staff was ok. But you need to know what to expect. Don't make your experience in Dublin a 1/5 one. - This hostel is in an old building that will/can never be 100% clean. Germaphobes need not apply - This hostel is next to a cathedral and near the temple bar. So if you are a light sleeper avoid. - There are no elevators or lifts. If you cant walk a few flights of stairs.please avoid. - In this hostel, there seems to be a few guys from the streets. I don't know if they are guests or a charity thing. But they just stay in the common area watching TV. If that worries you don't book. - Right now, some of their shower and bathroom need repair and some of the bathroom are mixed. If that bugs you then please avoid. -This hostel has strict policy on refunds and payment. So ask before booking. Last tip, you might not need a locker, a locker is 3 extra euro a night. But i found the lockable box under my bed was more than enough.

Mixed bag. Staff were really helpful and the location is amazing for seeing Dublin centre. Rooms are also fairly spacious. On the other hand, inside the hostel itself is incredibly loud and the bathrooms are filthy.

Great location, easy access to transit. Great pub/restaurant just around the corner with live music. Easy walking distance to multiple fun districts. Three stars because the rooms have no fans or any form of air circulation. With the window open on a top bunk, I sweated the entire night. Slept very little. Quiet enough place and nice otherwise for the price. I’m sure it would be fine anytime but summer.

Lovely and welcoming staff. What you’d expect for a hotel really. I paid for a private room and it was actually surprisingly better than what I thought. The only small issue is the outdated furniture- but again it’s a hostel so can’t complain too much! Happy for what I paid for.

Overall it's a good value for money! I am not sure if my opinion would be different if I haven't served the army 😅 Location is excellent, cleanliness is bad. The rooms are okay. I would recommend it if you are young and planning to stay for 1-3 nights.

  • 3/5 Nic S. 1 year ago on Google
Pretty average Hostel. Staff is very helpful but not always the happiest/most welcoming people. They do have a kitchen, free breakfast, and laundry options, which is a huge plus in my opinion. Not bad overall, but definitely not worth it for the $50/night they charged me to stay here in the middle of winter in a basic shared room.

Excellent location, right in the middle of everything. This beautiful old building was a 'home for working boys' back in the Victorian age. Teens who were on their own working in Dublin could stay here for a safe place to live. If you need anything, the store across the street probably has it. The hostel is no -frills, but very clean and has everything you need, and the staff were great. You can park your food in the fridge, use the kitchen to cook, and eat in the dining area downstairs where they also serve free breakfast in the morning. For a hostel, it was quiet, except for the fire doors, which slam every time someone goes in or out of their room. I was there with my teen so we had a private room upstairs but heard a lot of doors, which is not great if you are a light sleeper, FYI. Would definitely go back, though.

Be careful if you don’t want to freeze 🥶. The location is good, price is low which is also good. I stayed at the hostel in January and the room heating was not working. One electric heater was provided which doesn’t actually helps too much. There was no hot water. For me those kind of things are unacceptable and definitely a no go despite how cheap it can be.

  • 1/5 Mariano Julián C. 1 year ago on Google
Location is the only good point of this hostel. The prices are insanely high for the bed you get. The room has a strong smell of humidity. I stayed in a 8-person room and we barely had space for each one of us. The bathroom in suite is so bad that it even clutchs the pipes everytime you take a shower. There is also a lot of people that is homeless living here or people suffering the rental crisis. I don't blame them, but they kill the vibe of a hostel where usually is full of backpackers. Not recommended at all. If the price were 10€ I still wouldn't recommend it but it would be more logical. I payed 70€ the night.

Kinlay house was pretty solid. Able to keep the group together, offered a free walking tour which was great and the pub crawl was outstanding for a good price. The location was perfect as it was close to food and Temple Bar area

Room could do with a proper deep clean but other than that, great experience! Got a little heater in case i got cold and plenty of places to charge my electronics. The bed was very comfortable and had a curtain for privacy. Breakfast was just cereal and tea/coffee and they ran out of toast, no fruit in sight. But honestly it got the job done. Staff were helpful and friendly and overall the place was really nice. Very affordable and close to the city, definitely recommend and will be back soon!

As basic as it gets, but clean and serviceable. There were no weird smells or rowdy groups on the Saturday night in May that I stayed. The building itself is amazing, historically it was the living area for the Harding Technical School, and it has been maintained well. The location is great too, right next to Christchurch Cathedral. The bells ring in morning on the hour/half hour which may be annoying for some guests, but absolutely added to the experience for me. The breakfast is as basic as the rooms and bunk beds. It's just toast, cereal, and tea. It's included in the low price which makes up for this. Stay here rather than at one of the bigger chains, it's slightly cheaper and from my experience trying several in the area this is the best even though the facilities are incredibly basic.

My stay was horrible, There was no hot water in the shower, I’ve informed the reception 4 times but they don’t care. Bed has no power socket, no light and zero privacy. Only one thing made my stay easier which was Adrian from reception, he’s a very nice guy, at least tried to help and was very kind.

Great location right in town near everything. Not very clean, bathroom had minimal supplies. No a/c, no screens in windows we had to open for air. Front desk didn't seem to care we were there, not very friendly, kind of gruff and grumbly, uninterested. No amenities in room at all. No coffee, water, cups, nothing. No lift. They said room is on first floor and then had to carry our bags up 3 flights of stairs. A lot of noise outside all night. Will not stay there again.

  • 2/5 Dennis C. 6 months ago on Google
The service was generally acceptable, front desk were there and receptive. The room I was staying out however, smelled of sewage and was very unpleasant and barely cleaned. Plus my bed was not near a charger at all so I had to charge on a shelf, and climb down my bed and run to the alarm when it rung. The luggage storage was a pain because you had to look all around the building, outside to an alley, and back into another building. The luggage storage definitely needed to be cleaned and aired out, all I smelled was a high school gym locker. The shower and restrooms could've also used a bit of cleaning as well. Great location otherwise if you just need a place to sleep.

  • 1/5 Jim S. 6 months ago on Google
Great location for seeing the city but that's the only advantage I found to this place. The beds were so thin, small and crammed in there's no room to get to your suitcase and the showers and toilets were in a very bad spot for the ensuites. The shower wet the toilet because the shower curtain is broken. The shower also didn't have temperature control in my room. The private rooms aren't any better either . Windows barely open for fresh air and the dust covered curtains don't block all the window space letting alot of light in. The staff also don't seem to care at all about any fault of these. Won't be staying there again.

  • 2/5 Peter H. 6 months ago on Google
This place is a hostel, is it what I expected? Nope! I ain't been in many hostels but this one just seemed like it needed a big over haul. Plaster board cover holes in ceiling where previous water damage had come through (not fully fixed). Compartmentation throughout the place. I'm surprised the Fire Service haven't put it in to special measures. As for a place to put your head down and grab some toast in the morning it's OK. But I'll not be stopping there again. Not commenting on service as never had to use them.

Awful, common spaces so dirty, as the carpet with spots everywhere of God knows what, you can smell it. One of the cleaning staff, also manager apparently got in the room screaming at 10 in the morning, shouting the door going out.

Great place to stay, really friendly staff, light breakfast supplied, kitchen available for self catering, shared showers and toilet facilities kept very clean, large social/dining room, laundry. Covid restrictions enforced. Oh and in central Dublin within reach of amenities/ on main bus lanes from Airport.

The hotel is well located but some point can be better. If your travel with a big luggage there is no lift and lot of stairs. The shower is not convenient the all bathroom and toilet is flood by water. It seems there's not heater working in the rooms.

Staff very helpful, friendly & nice. Toilets especially the guys shared toilet that I accidently went into was vile. More so do with the users rather than the cleaning staff tbh. Also, areas epecially up to bedroom area didn't smell great tbh, would prefer if these areas were fresher & cleaner. Windows need to be open /more open. Great location & very chillaxing place to stay.Grma.

It's been a hot minute since I visited but I figured I ought to write a review. This is one of the best and cleanest hostels I've visited and their pub crawls and talent nights foster relationships between visitors. I would certainly take a return visit and recommend them to anyone visiting Dublin and I look forward to my next trip to Dublin

Good - shower, toilet worked. Hot water. Bad - cost 225 euro a night when booked months in advance, room hot despite cool temperatures outside, Ugly - room showed signs of wear. Overall would stay here again if it was cheaper that the competition. Stay occurred summer 2022. Breakfast consisted of coffee, toast and cereal.

Excellent location, mediocre quality on pretty much everything else. The kitchen is messy and not very clean, and so is the common area. The room was ok (private for two, ensuite bathroom), though anonymous and a little sad.

The worst Hostel that I ever been in my whole life, dirty, the staffs get inside your room without nock at the door, the chubby guy from reception extremely rude I was eating out every day as I couldn't use the kitchen all dirty disgusting. The walls are very thin so you can here other rooms, a Guy spend a whole day in my room took a shower etc and later he realised it wasn't his room, but the key worked, so no safety at all. The breakfast included is just an old bread with butter and jam that's all! IF you book with someone else's card you gonna be with no money and no hostel you have to have the card together, they don't give your money back if that happens and you don't have the card together, you cannot stay and no money refund. I was changing clothes and the staff came inside without nock at the door. So disrespectful.i just put one because I cannot leave it empty. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOSTEL! TRUST ME. -5/10.

I had an emergency need to extend my stay in Dublin by one night, and this was the only place with a room left under €100. What can you expect from the last affordable bed in Dublin? Well, the location is great for city center attractions, but far from all public transit except for busses. It's a beautiful old building on the outside, but absolutely filthy on the inside. The Kinlay room is absolutely covered in cobwebs, and doesn't have anywhere near enough plug sockets for everyone staying there. Furthermore, the beds are crammed in so tight that there's no room to open bags - you'll literally be sleeping within arm's length of three other travelers. The walls are paper thin and you'll hear everyone walking through the halls throughout the night. The restrooms don't appear to be actively cleaned, and are covered in mold and all sorts of other things, with toilets that have no seat or toilet paper. And yet you'll pay €70 per night for this experience, while other, far better Dublin hostels are half the price. Stay far away.

Stayed for 2 nights. All staff were friendly and helpful. Great location. The place itself is a bit grotty and could do with a bit of a deep clean and refurbishment. The showers are like gym showers, and while I had no problems, my male friend said the showers in the male bathrooms were very hot. Many of the toilets had broken seats and the flushes weren't always working. The sinks desperately needed to be re-grouted. The room itself (we stayed in an 8 bed dorm) was spacious enough and we could fit all our luggage in a cage under the bed and lock it with our own padlock. The beds were clean and comfortable. The room itself was a bit difficult to sleep in due to the bright green fire escape light, and it could get quite stuffy even with the windows open. Breakfast was toast with butter/jam/peanut butter, and a variety of cereals. There was a hot water tap and free tea/instant coffee. I had to buy oat milk for my personal use, but they had cow's milk available. Probably wouldn't stay again.

Kinlay House Dublin was a great place to stay at. The room was affordable, clean and super central. The staff were so friendly and helpful. So much so that when I forgot my passport in the room I stayed at, the staff kept it safe and went above and beyond to help me retrieve it. Excellent customer service, we will be back ☺️

Very good place to club with multi cultural personalities. Decent funny staffs for support. You can buy lockers separately or else come with a lock to secure your items with your allotted individual safes. I like it and recommend for limited budget for short stay 😊

Very good location but WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. we stayed 3 nights in a 24 dorms and each night was 70€/person when it is supposed to be a hostel. the bathrooms could use a better clean up. breakfasts were good and staff very very friendly and helpful ! but still too expensive …
