I had an overnight stay in Dublin on the tail end of a business trip and decided on Barnacles Hostel because it was affordable and centrally located. It’s also very easy to get to (foolproof even) from the airport via airline bus (7€), or the port via bus to city center stop. You get no frills with this place, but it’s a good value for the price. It definitely seems to attract an 18-25 crowd (expected based on the location). I would not recommend for someone who would be annoyed by bar noise or people in and out at all hours of the night (but the front desk offers guests ear plugs which is thoughtful). The rooms are pretty basic. Breakfast is pretty basic, but there are a few hot options. My only complaint was that the bathroom was clean but just seemed dingy (private room) compared to other hostels I’ve patroned. Also worth mentioning how safe it is. As I woman traveling alone I felt very secure while there.

Stayed here for a stag party with 11 others, split over two rooms. The rooms were small, but they did the job. The beds were comfy and the room was warm. It's right in the heart of Temple Bar, so expect some morning noise as the streets are cleaned. The breakfast was well equipped and the staff friendly. Could do with some paint, but other than that, a good, cheap hostel.

You get what you pay for. Our room was kinda dirty, I think there were 10 beds in our room. People came in and out at the early hours of the morning and were kind of loud which was disappointing, but you can't really control that in a hostel. The location is good if you want to be on Temple Bar, if you get in early you can check your bags at the desk and they'll hold them for you until check in.

Perfect location, right beside temple bar pub. Clean rooms and great staff, especially Daisy. I've stayed here 3 times throughout the years. Sad to hear about the future changes.

One of the best locations in the heart of city centre. Ideal for visiting tourists. The hostel adequate facilities, neat and clean with friendly staff and hospitable environment. You will have no problems at all staying at this place. You easily get what you pay for in this place.

Great spot to stay if you're looking to sleep less and do more. Location is prime! The staff are amazing and accommodating. The prices are also great!

We had a private double room and everything was perfect, the room had just be redone and was spotless and very comfortable. People at reception were welcoming and helpfull. The hostel is in the very heart of the fun part of Dublin with pubs, restaurants, shops, live music everywhere. Yet we slept very well, we didn't hear any noise from the streets. Would recommend very highly!

Most of the other reviews mention noise, that was really the only issue here. The breakfast was basic, but fine. The place was clean and had a friendly atmosphere, fun place to stay if you want to be in the middle of the party! The night life is reminiscent of Bourbon Street in New Orleans and quite constant until about 3-4am

Very helpful staff. Very clean. Beds are not the best, but they're good. Nice breakfast! Been here a couple of times and I would definitely recommend this hostel. Be aware though that it can be very noisy due to its location. Earbuds are essential and reception offers them for free!

We got a private room for two, double bed with bathroom, and it was great. Cleaned every day. Kitchen available for use with cabinets and refrigerators that others SHOULDN'T take you things from (results may vary). Their breakfast is cereal, toast and juice or coffee which is a nice touch for something they dont need to do. Being next to the temple bar in temple bar is noisy and crowded when coming home, but that's not something the hostel can change. We did find that the day staff were the ones to ask questions to, as the night staff were... more so desk clerks. Overall, good prices and great location for anyone wanting to get around the city on foot.

Our room smelled like feet. Literally all I remember from the stay, feet. Was the least clean hostel of our trip, and a man was sleeping in my friends bed when we came back to go to sleep. Sheets were not comfortable and had a strange smell. Normally I understand - you get what you pay for, but basic cleanliness and people not being in my bed when I come back to crash are things I expect out of a hostel stay. It's loud as well because of the location - but earplugs fix that, so it didn't bother me. Decent enough breakfast, friendly staff otherwise. Probably would not stay again.

Great hostel with comfortable beds and glean rooms. Could do with some additional showers an toilets. Breakfast has a good selection and is included in the price. The location is fantastic with all the pubs of temple bar right outside the front door. Close to all the main attractions of Dublin and you can get the airport link bus just 100m away.

Rooms were a bit small and sometimes how to get to eg the kitchen was somewhat confusing. But in general, given the location, the rooms and housing in general was very decent. It gets loud at night but you have to expect that. The employees were very friendly and the lobby was decorated very sweetly, there were Irish slang words and restaurants recommended. The breakfast was really slim though. Better buy something you want to eat for breakfast and store it in the public fridge.

Very nice location next to Temple Bar. Nice lounge area with couches, big kitchen where you can cook and also free breakfast. Lots of staffs very friendly. Vending machines, and very helpful guides. Toilets and showers are good, I had a private ensuite shared with 3 other people instead of a whole floor like other hostels.

Good hostel. Excellent location in the middle of outgoing Dublin. We had no noise issues from the outside, but have heard people complain who are on the street side. Friendly staff. Breakfast is limited but a good place to have a coffee to start off your day.
