😠 I had great memories coming here as a child but boy have the standards dropped in recent years. The understaffing has lead to tables filled with piles of trash and half-eaten food, rancid smells and the ‘clean’ cutlery encrusted with food remains. The cafe manager just nearly grabbed my coffee out of my hand because it was not purchased in this gallery. Your based in a public gallery, people will bring in drinks from local cafes. Your service is shocking. Two weeks ago I was in on a Sat. I asked for a soup and a sandwich after a 10 min wait. There was no soup even though it was advertised. The woman in front of me was asked what she wanted, while she was calling out the salads she wanted the server was completely distracted and not listening and the American tourist had to repeat the whole order again. There was also a sign up saying fard machine broken which I told them to remove as it had been fixed and was confusing for customers. Is it any wonder I didnt want to buy coffee here.

The understaffing has lead to tables filled with piles of trash and half-eaten food, rancid smells and the ‘clean’ cutlery encrusted with food remains. Utterly disgusting and an embarrassment to be under the banner of our National Gallery.

Appalling place, terrible food ,very high price and shockingly bad service. I can only advice strongly that you avoid this travesty of a "food provider".

Absolutely disappointing. There's a million better places nearby. Mediocre food provided by a very questionable company.

Surprised, and highly disappointed..from what was a place to look forward to eating in... to nope, not going there again. This restaurant has changed hands ... To a single hand, which is missing a few fingers. So I will not be putting my hands together for the current contract owner... This operation reflects very poorly on the NGI.... Poor selection, tomatoes we so tasteless and unripe, one might as well served raw potatoes. Small portion. Premium price... Get your act together NGI

The space is so bright. A nice spot to have a cup of tea with friends. People don’t come here for food, to be honest.

Seats are organised awkwardly in that they are bunched together in groups of 4 or 6 making it messy for singles and doubles. Coffee and cake is good but not cheap as you'd expect. Lovely place to sit and relax though.

Should have read the reviews before stopping here to eat. If you like plastic in your food, pay them a visit. Also, 15 euros for a plastic sandwich seems a bit expensive, but that's a different story.

Cold austere. Lightly staffed. Food not too warm as well. For food go across the road to Lincoln Inn

Anything but the soup and sandwich is a total rip off. 12 euro for two spoons of plain rice topped with two level spoons of chicken fricasse, minus most of the chicken!!!!

We came there because we saw that they have a play area in the coffee place. The area for the kids is very poor not really entertaining. Also I want to order food and coffee and you literally need to order in 2 different places.

The restaurant food was amazing. Had the tuna wrap and a side of potatoes. There were a lot of empty seats and we were able to find a quiet spot to eat. This was a Thursday at lunch.

Very big coffee Cups! The tables don’t get cleaned very often, because there are so many people, so there are dishes on tables.

Lovely to see the gallery open again. The new acquisitions exhibition is well worth a visit.
