The Herald of freedom/Statue of a horseman (Vjesnik slobode/konjanik) was erected in Yugoslavian times to commemorate 'the heroic fight of the people in this region against the occupator' (referring to the Italian occupation of Dalmatia 1941-1943). The monument is the work of Marin Studin (1895 - 1960), born in Kaštel Novi and student of Ivan Meštrović.

It’s just a monument, but I loved walking down to the beach and seeing it. I think it’s quite impressive and adds some spark to your holiday photos.

I must say tried to find out who he represents but was difficult to find, as such a nice and handy landmark

I still have no idea what a horseman needs to do 5 meter above sea level, but at least this statue provides a few square meter of shadow

It’s a very nice monument which fit very well with the environment and divide two municipalities, that is Kastel stari from Kastel novi . The area nearby the monument has been also renovated, so it’s also very nice walk there and enjoy the skyline of Split from far distance . Definitely a nice place worth to visit !!!

Really nice area to walk by the sea, with plenty of café and restaurants by the sea. Very popular with the locals.

Not really worth going to see this just for the statue, the pictures seem to do it justice. Some nice restaurants in the area though. Parking is pretty easy and free, but you might find yourself navigating through some tricky gaps to get down there.
