Will start with pointing out there are.good and bad with this place. It is a great location right on the lake with a great view and walking distance to shopping and eating in canal park. The front desk staff were very friendly. That's about where the good ends. Right away the parking here sucks, granted it's winter and they just got snow but there was no extra parking and hard to find a spot to park seeing as they had a quarter of the lot piled with snow it seemed, which they piled snow up by the building in handicapped parking spaces. The room wasn't bad but not great, the bedding was definitely older and had been through the wash alot and was worn out, the stuff was clumped up inside the blankets so not very comfortable. There were dirty towels left under the sink. The biggest issue was the noise, not just other people staying there but staff also, doors were constantly being slammed shut throughout the night so didn't get much sleep and you could here some of it was the staff moving stuff and talking. The door was very loose fitting in the frame so you could almost see through the gap and it would shake anytime a nearby door was slammed shut. Also minor but still annoying was the hair drier sounded like it was going to come apart when turned on. Now we did not use the pools available so that would maybe make it a little bit better but I know we won't be staying here again.

Our family has visited this hotel several times over the years - it used to be our favorite one to stay at in Canal Park. However, with our visit this weekend, the steep decline in upkeep and service was evident the moment we arrived. It is clear they are not investing in the upkeep of the building and furnishings....room only moderately clean and quite run down... others in our party had mold in their rooms (1st floor). The buffet used to help justify the high price of this hotel, however, the buffet was only about 25% of what it used to be... not as many options offered, staff was not quick to refill during breakfast hours, ran out of many items.... certainly nothing special any longer. This hotel used to have a luxury quality to it..... happy hour in the gathering space, sometimes live music, extras here and there.... this is not the case any longer. To top it off, the night security staff is rude, aggressive and one of them seems very off..... staring at guests, going into women's bathroom unnecessarily, entering hotel rooms during his shift, and lingering around young girls repeatedly (in hot tub and hallways, etc). I reported this, and was assured he was leaving that day, only to find him back at his shenanigans the next evening. We felt very unsafe and feel the management is not addressing an issue that needs to be addressed here.

We booked this place during the week in the middle of May and paid for a room with the view of the lake. The view was nice and our little balcony was cute however; the rooms could use some TLC. There was no lamp(s) on the nightstand in our room, the carpet is showing its age, and the lighting for the vanity and bathroom wasn't very bright. We were also upset to find that there was leftover food in the fridge in the room which lead us to question how well it was actually cleaned. We stayed for 4 nights and had to go to the front desk at least twice because our room keys would be deactivated after a day or two. The rooftop pool was nice but small. The hot tub in the indoor pool area I noticed had a ring of scum around it so that also made me wonder how clean the other pools and sauna were (note: I was not in the sauna durning this stay). The breakfast in the morning was nice and casual. The location in Canal Park is perfect especially since you typically have to pay for parking there- with the hotel you get a spot in their parking lot. The staff were either friendly or neutral (except for the man who checked us in- he looked absolutely miserable). Overall, the stay was okay.

Upon arrival we had a few minor issues in our room and alerted staff. They promptly moved rooms and comped one of the nights of our 4 night stay. Second room was good and usable. Breakfasts were great, good variety and never really running out during breakfast times. The lobby always had ice water and/or fruit infused water available. Pools were good sized, rooftop pool was very warm on chillier nights. Shops and restaurants right out the front door and lake walk right out the back door. They did offer nightly s’mores, but we didn’t partake since we saw kids with their hands in the marshmallow bin. Parking with a pass from hotel, it was very busy on weekend nights due to people double parking, but we were never not able to find a spot.

We planned a trip to the area to see our son. We chose a suite at The Inn because of the in room jacuzzi and beautiful views. It was a fair price and when we arrived we were quite happy with what we saw. Even piled in snow, the view from this hotel was really nice! The patio was set up for bonfires, there were complimentary drinks and the staff were welcoming and helpful. We settled into the room, which wasn't exactly how it was described, but it was ok! The air conditioning had been running (instead of the heat) and when it was switched over, the room filled up with a funky smell. We also noticed the curtains were quite shredded.. but we weren't too concerned and left for an evening out. Later, we came back for some swimming and relaxation. The indoor pool area was a bit yucky by this time, but I think that was due to the large amount of young kids that stay there and not the staff. The rooftop pool was really neat! It was a little too cold out for me but my husband really liked it. After swimming, we decided to retreat to our suite. It was time to fill the jacuzzi and relax! My husband filled the tub and went to help me into the water (I'm physically disabled). At the last moment, I asked if he could turn the jets on to see how powerful they were. I'm SO glad I did. When he turned them on, what I can only hope was soap scum poured out of the jets. When turning off the jets, the substance swirled around and floated in slimy globs. We were pretty disgusted! We went to call the front desk and see if we could have this remedied.. the phone didn't work! We made the long trek down to the front desk and waited while the staff made another room available. By this time it was after midnight and we were super tired. We did use the jacuzzi in the new room and it was fine. The only problem I had with the new room is a few pubes, the view of the strip club and bright lights shining through the sheer curtains all night. It had potential to be a great stay! It just wasn't.

My husband and I stayed here to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary! (We stayed in the room with a jacuzzi). This hotel did not disappoint. The rooftop pool was such a fun experience for us. The hotel was clean, had comfy beds, offers a great breakfast and the staff were extremely accommodating... They even surprised us with wine and chocolates. We will never forget this. Highly recommend and will come here again.

In mid-June, I was really excited to stay at the Inn on Lake Superior to celebrate my wedding anniversary; I had stayed at Fitger's in May (which I enjoyed) so I thought I'd find another comparable hotel on the lake to enjoy. They are not similar in the slightest. The hotel was much dirtier than any hotel I have ever stayed at. When guests walk into the hotel, they are confronted with a huge mystery stain on the rug in the entryway. As guests continue walking past the concierge desk, they shouldn't expect the concierge staff to greet them, as the customer service was about as lackluster as the hotel itself. In fact, if guests have a concern and go to the desk for help, they may not be serviced -- this happened twice. (Though the two staff members who checked us in to the hotel were fine.) The hotel room had cobwebs behind the doors and the private outside patio connected to the room had not been cleaned, as it still had a few plastic cups from the previous guests (we even found one used plastic cup in our bedroom). To make matters worse, we were unable to securely lock our door to the patio due to the chain lock being broken. While we will not be returning, I strongly encourage management to model the expectation for their staff - from the cleaning of the rooms to the interactions with the guests. What a letdown.

My family stayed for a week and had an enjoyable experience. We had a suite on the 3rd floor, with a king size bed in the main bedroom room and two doubles in the room closest to the hall. Our room had a terrific view of Lake Superior with a nice little balcony. It's an older property and could use some updating. You can really see the age in the bathroom and furnishings in the room, but was clean and comfortable. They offer a hot breakfast with a standard offering of scrambled eggs, rotation of potatoes and/or sausage, and waffles. The also have an attached conference center, which could be very useful for business travelers. The staff was pleasant, but shied away from engaging with us unless asked a direct question. Could be that they see so many tourists that they may be experiencing a little burn out. Grandma's Marathon was the week following our visit, so they could be focused on that as well. Either way, they were professional. The real selling point is its location. You're right in the middle of everything with most of the shops and restaurants being within walking distance. You also have access to the excellent walking path that runs along the lake. If you're staying in Duluth, they are definitely worth a look.

I stayed here a while back with a group of friends and it was WONDERFUL!! Was so happy to come this time with my husband for our anniversary. The only good thing I have to say is the location is great, we walked everywhere we wanted to go, that is a big plus and that is where the 2 stars are coming from. We had to call to have out floor vacuumed as it appeared to not be. After looking around the room found so much dust, I mean so much !! The comforters are so old the cotton is clumping in them, not what I would expect, especially for the price per night. The breakfast was adequate, but cheese omelets hard around the edges, like sitting to long. Pretty disappointed after I was so excited to stay at your hotel, and had bragged up to my husband.

Room was clean, quiet. Breakfast area bright, beautiful view and roomy. Breakfast was a disappointment. 2 mornings with no sausage, eggs or potatoes. Just cold cereal, sweet muffins etc. Also no knives. There were 2 people in the breakfast area that appeared to not be too busy. The day they did have scrambled eggs and potatoes they were barely warm. Don't advertise what you don't serve. For the money the breakfast was a huge disappointment.

The housekeeping could have spent more time straightening the room-the couch had one cushion with the zipper side out, the skirt on the bed was mostly under the mattress, the microwave needs a good cleaning and the cable TV is probably the most basic you can get with very few channels. In years past the hotel was decorated for Christmas at this time but because of staff shortages it was not done this year, very disappointing.

My family and I stayed here for a few days. The location was great. Everything was a decent walking distance, if you didn’t want to drive much. Just minor things that were found broken. But overall, we enjoyed staying there! Really enjoyed their breakfast and the s’mores set up they had going on.

I attended a training seminar here. The room is nice and comfy. There was some wear on the furniture but everything was clean. The view from the room was wonderful. The sound of the waves and the ships on the lake was outstanding. The breakfast and catering was very good. The staff was quite professional and friendly and the lounge areas are really nice.

Location is the best for wanted to see and do all in Duluth. Lake view rooms are great, even the first floor ones; Nice private seating area for each room. The rooms themselves need updating. The carpet had numerous and quite large stains throughout and are well past their expiration date. The shower was nice but the mold growing in the tile grout was gross. Definitely need a professional clean or replacement too. Beds were comfortable and sheets seemed all clean.

We have stayed at the Inn on Lake Superior but have not been here for a number of years. We stayed over the weekend and had 3 rooms in our party. We were within walking distance to the holiday parade downtown and bentleyville. The front desk staff was very helpful and polite. Our room was clean and the beds were very comfortable. We can't wait to come back next year

Our stay here was fantastic. The staff were friendly and very accommodating. We had originally booked at a different hotel that was quite a bit pricier. We switched our reservation here and we got a better view, discount for staying 2 nights in a row and great amenities. We appreciated the continental breakfast and the staff provided little things that we did not have with us such as a razor, corkscrew, and champagne glasses. The pool and hot tub were nice. We especially enjoyed watching the large ships come in and out of the harbor. Top it off with some hot apple cider and s’mores…. Wonderful and cozy.

Hot tubs are louder then regrets in life lol... made it a little hard to relax, but I found a way! Rooms were in great condition. Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful location was great right in the park of everything that you could want to do.

Had a great 2 night stay in lake view king room. Great view of lake. Excellent location, whether hanging in canal park or going out on the town. Friendly staff. Good breakfast. Comfortable beds. Bathrooms need updating and the room could use a little extra deep cleaning. Overall, good experience. Definitely recommend.

The front desk lady was extremely rude. I had my husband check us in and I had booked a king lake view room, he gets to the room it has two double beds that is half the size of the room I reserved. Normally if it was just me this wouldn’t be a problem but my husband is extremely tall. So he goes back down the lady is extremely rude and says we don’t have any other rooms. At this point I look at the reservation and it clearly states that I will receive the room type I reserved but not a specific room number, which again he explains to the front desk staff who is again rude and she goes I guess I can give you a discount. In my mind so you gave us a smaller room that is not the same room we reserved and you were going to charge the same rate and then say we can give you a discount once we complain? So you’re scamming us at this point? I just don’t get it. The GM eventually came over and goes actually we do have a room that is the same type of room you reserved. So we get that room and it’s a king sized bed and double the size of the original room she gave us. I consistently go to Duluth for conferences and usually stay here but after this ordeal I definitely will not be coming back to this hotel.

In talking with other hotel patrons during our stay, it seems that some of the quality of this hotel has recently diminished. We enjoyed so much about our stay. The nightly smores, complimentary breakfast, and rooftop pool were terrific amenities. I sense that they may simply suffer from lack of staff these days. While I found our room to be comfortable and clean, some common areas could definitely use more attention. Pool area floor needs to be cleaned of food crumbs. Outside trash cans full for days. Front desk attendants were friendly and did their best to call maintenance help even though it seemed that help may not come until the next day. Overall I feel they definitely did their best with what they had and we had a great time.

Great location to see ships, walk, shop, and dine out; great breakfast; great bikes available to ride; great pool. However, there are a few tweaks to make. 1. our room was very musty. Seemed to be the carpet, but maybe the AC unit. Room was basically clean, but hair-tie on bathroom door hook and a cheerio in the AC unit. Clean otherwise except that musty smell! 2. breakfast is great, but the coffee is mediocre. Tastes lake weak Folgers. The stuff I made in the room was better, but they only gave us one regular and one decaf pack for the room . . . 3. Pool was great for the kids, but the tile around it is very slippery. Didn't see any sign posted to the effect of "Tile slippery when wet." 4. Some carpet stains (coffee?) in the entry/fireplace sitting room, and one (yogurt?) in the hallway--were not cleaned in the 4 days we were there. Kinda surprising. Put our garbage in the hall when full--staff took it, but didn't give us a new garbage bag. Strange. Still a very good hotel overall, but not quite what it was 15-20 years ago.

Normally our stays here were fine, however our stay in August 2022 was not. Found blood stai s on sheet under comforter that last night we were there. Advised front desk upon check out and they were very apologetic and offered us a free night stay for our next trip. Got back home did some research on hotel sheets that have blood stain drops. The reason is because of bed bugs. Had to shampoo and disinfect my car trunk and discard the suitcases. Luckily I think when we got home we put everything in the wash. I recently called hotel to advise them of what appears to be bed bugs. Left a message for Steve the GM to call me 3 times. He has neglected to contact me. I found some bugs in my trunk but nothing in our house thankfully. I did have to spend about $170.00 on high powered cleaning chemicals to clean my car but just discarded our suitcases. Hope hotel invests some money in maintenance and keeping up quality health and safety levels.

Overall my stay was great. Only complaint I have are the rooms are definitely showing there age and could use some tlc. The roof top "pool" is amazing. It's basically a hot tub without benches. It's 3ft-3.5ft deep and is literally hot tub temp. That pool was the highlight for sure

My significant other and I came to the Inn for a night out to celebrate our anniversary. It was our first time at this hotel but we were very impressed! I especially loved the complimentary breakfast. Unfortunately the rooftop pool was closed due to the weather but I wouldn’t mind coming back in the future to get that experience! We had a view of the full lift bridge from our window, and the view from the dining area by the entrance is absolutely beautiful. We booked the King whirlpool suite which was super nice and clean upon arrival. The only issue I could think of is that the hot tub could use a deep cleaning as I noticed some kind of buildup in the corners. Otherwise, we had such a lovely time and I plan to come again in the future! Thank you Inn staff!

Nice room, with gorgeous views off the private balcony. Bathroom needs help and my husband got metal slivers in his foot from the carpet. It was reported to the front desk. The evening desk clerk was pretty snooty and told us she couldn't do anything about it, we would have to talk to management. We reported it to the manager in the morning and were assured that it would be reported to housekeeping. The Continental Breakfast was nice. Simple, but good. The scrambled eggs were delicious. Would have liked some fresh fruit/berries. Loved the indoor pool, as well as the rooftop pool. Who would have thought it would be possible to sit in a rooftop pool, in November, in Minnesota?

Visit Duluth every year in the Autumn. First time staying here. Had a first floor lakeside room which was very convenient to the Lakewalk, Canal Park, dining and shopping so no complaints there, but the rooms are in need of updating, TLC, and our shower dripped the entire time we were there. The hot tub and pools were outstanding! Breakfast was just okay but nothing special which is pretty much expected now. Would maybe stay there again just for the large capacity hot tub and nicely heated pools.

This is my go to hotel room any time I am in Duluth. I loved everything about it from the breakfast buffet to the outdoor activity and the fact that it's right in canal park; however, I recently had a girls trip in August and now a trip with my boyfriend in September and both times, the cleanliness of the rooms are questionable, especially the toilet in the bathroom. I am a person who need my bathroom (toilet AND shower tub) to be especially welcoming! The awesome waffles available for breakfast can't make up for the bad bathroom/toilet in the room. My thought is...it's time to explore other hotels on Canal.

First time here. The building feels historic. Very nice and we'll maintained. The rooms are standard layout. I have a lake view room and really enjoyed the view. The location couldn't be better. Right on the canal. The staff was nice, check in was quick, both pools (one indoor and one outdoor) appeared clean and well maintained.

I loved everything about this hotel. From the front desk to the top-notch service from the staff, we had a great stay. The view from our balcony was so pretty. Next time, I would like to stay on the lake side. It's within walking distance of everything that Canal Park has to offer. And it's super easy to jump on the freeway and head north along Lake Superior. We will 100% be back!

Our combined families attended a very special UN-Duluth graduation. The Inn staff was very professional and helped us all to feel relaxed during a fully-booked weekend, including Mother's Day! We were able to have attached rooms without asking! It meant so much to us, combined families of mixed ages. The hot breakfast buffets were so appreciated! We had to use a rented electric scooter for the weekend and especially DAH was most accommodating. It saved our whole weekend. We will always remember this weekend!

Wonderful hotel, location and staff. Little outdated but nothing to be bothered by. Would like more breakfast options, having to watch what I eat, I had to have the same thing all 5 mornings. Staff was extremely kind, and quickly brought up extra bedding and pillows too. Wish they had snacks in the vending machines $3.50 for a bag of chips in the tiny shop they have is pure greed. Absolutely loved the s'mores in the evening and water, tea and coffee during the day and evening. Especially during the first two days if our trip it was super chilly by the lake, cocoa was a lovely treat to stay warm. Will definitely be back.

Overall great week. We ended up having to be in a king room. There wasn't bedding on the pull out or any in the room to be used. Asked the front desk for them and never got any. Upsetting that we paid that much for the room and didn't have good customer service. To be fair, I never asked again to give them a chance to fix it. The staff is always good and I'm sure they would have fixed it if I had asked again but we were only in the building very early or very late. The breakfast as decent. I appreciate having a hot meal included in my hotel stay. I know that you pay a premium for canal Park and I have no issues with that. With so many hotels upgrading, the Inn feels a little outdated. Will stay here again if the price is right and I need to stay in canal Park in the future.
