A free museum that’s definitely worth visiting. We learnt so much here. A lot of reading though so if you’re with younger ones they may lose interest quickly. We were able to watch the aerial lift bridge rise up for a ship here.

Awesome place to watch the ships come through. Ranger who lead the tour seemed new, but she still gave an informative tour. The museum has quite a bit of information, though not much as far as hands on activities for little learners. Gift shop prices were good. We parked for free across the bridge and just walked over. There is a free trolley that will take you around the downtown area. Bring your own food because all the places around prey on tourists.

This is a small but very nice museum about Lake Superior Maritime History. Has lots of good displays and photos, including some nice ones of the aerial lift bridge. There's even a "control room" of a large boat. Restrooms are clean and well maintained too. There is a nice balcony/landing outside where you can watch the bridge. Great place to spend some time while visiting Duluth.

AMAZING MUSEUM! The exhibits were interactive and engaging for all ages. I loved the assortment of recreations, pictures, and facts. So informative and beautiful. The view of the lake is beautiful and the gift shop had a large selection as well

Put your directions to here and pay to park the vehicle. Visitor center has a display with the timings of the ships, even after they close at 4.30pm. So much fun things to see around here. Ice cream shops, cute cafes, horse carriages, ships and boats in the canal, music at the Broadway sometimes.

Free museum providing a lot of information and history of Duluth and ships. Lots of exhibits, but only a few hands on things for kids to do. The exhibits had a lot of information to read, but didn’t hold my kid’s attention (ages 8 and 13).

Great place to take kids and have them watch big ships come through the canal, and then there's informative and fun exhibits which you can watch for free.

Lots of great information and cool things to look at. Definitely a lot of history in the building. Gift shop was small but nice. The older lady was a little rude with little kids. Could interact with different items and watch movies also. It was free to visit and hours were great cause open tell at least 8 p.m. if I remember right.

Very neat little educational place. If you walk in the front doors, you walk down towards the gift shop before the stairs or elevator up to the main floor with the exhibits. The stairwell has some neat stuff to learn about, look at, read, and soak in. Once you get to the main floor it's really neat to see all the exhibits. Lots of model ships with explanations, a couple videos, and really neat exhibits. Loved the wheel house and lock simulator lots. Also made sure to get our Lighthouse passport stamps here!

My husband and I stopped in the maritime center while on a trip to Duluth recently. First of all, I couldn't believe it was free to go through the museum! The exhibits were all fascinating and I loved getting to learn more about Lake Superior and the Great Lakes. It's not a huge place but there's a ton of information there if you take some time to read through it all. There are some really fun interactive exhibit and there are consistently great views throughout the building. Overall, definitely worth a stop!

Excellent! Tons of very cool models and great information. Lots of fantastic views of the aerial lift bridge and the canal, too. I would highly recommend it. It also shows how many of the great Lake boats have evolved what conditions are like and has a display for the Edmund Fitzgerald. Five stars, go see it!

Fun historical experience! At the museum you will be able to see items from real ships from the area. You will have an opportunity to see videos, photos, and put yourself in the position of being a captain. Our kids beg to come here every time we are in town. A Duluth must do!

Good displays, a lot of cool pictures and nice views from the building. It definitely needs a face lift. The building has bean unchanged since the early 2000s when I first started coming here. You would think with the nice location and all the tourists that come here that it would be a state of the art building. Also they seen to be closed ad much as they are open.

I absolutely loved this place when I was growing up! Visiting was such fun! I haven't been there in some time, but not much has changed either....

Small museum packed with cool old timer engines and light house stuff, also has a gift shop and restrooms.

Very interesting and informative museum that is also FREE. Nice place to escape the heat if you need to. The gift shop inside is very small and cramped and honestly not worth visiting. Nowhere to really rest unless you take a seat at the theater room (but please be quiet).

This is a really well done museum! There are a couple floors to explore along with some videos about the history of ships and the booming industries of Duluth! It is right near the lift bridge and there are a lot of different places to go and explore around the area. Definitely a must go see! Free as well!

I love this place. I think it would be fun to put a beginning mark by the lift bridge and then mark the lengths of some of the boats that come in all the way to the 1013 ft on maybe on the railing along the canal. Maybe different colored signs that you could see from both ends. That would put the different sizes of boats in perspective for the kids.(and us adult kids!!)
