We had so much fun at the aquarium! There are so many displays and tanks to check out. There were all kinds of lake and regional river fish. The highlight for us was the gigantic electric eel. That was amazing to see in person. I took one star off due to it being a little pricey for a small aquarium.

It's a great place with a lot of information about Lake Superior, the other Great Lakes, and their ecosystems, but it seems overpriced to me. $20 per adult and $10 for parking. It's definitely kid-friendly, but I guess I was expecting more than just two levels of exhibits for $20. But it is really interesting to read about the different types of wildlife in the lakes, and they also had several non-aquatic animals as well. The exhibit on shipwrecks was really fascinating. I enjoyed it, but I would prefer to pay somewhere in the $12-15 range for adult admission and nothing for parking.

Loved it. There are stations to touch Jellyfish, and Sturgeon?! Definitely some unique experiences to be had! Everything here really is cool, and they are a sanctuary for local various injured and etc. Minnesotan animals as well. There's a gift shop named "Explorers Cove Gift shop", and penny smashers, so you definitely can get some souvenirs. Parking is 10 bucks for 5 hours, you can pay online, or at the Grey Kiosk at the front of the building.

This is a modern, clean, nicely laid out aquarium, probably more geared to kids than adults, but my wife and I enjoyed our visit here. The aquarium focuses mostly on freshwater aquatics, but there are now saltwater exhibits as well. I'd say you would need about 90 minutes to visit this place. Definitely recommended for anyone visiting the area, with of without kids. As an added bonus, there are two balconies with beautiful views of the harbor.

We were here on vacation. When we arrived, we were surprised to see the signs about parking. The signs told us to go to a certain website, which was confusing. We went to go to the front desk to ask them for help. We saw the parking machine next to the front door. We do not understand why the signs didn’t say that. We were not happy to see we had to pay a minimum 5 hours for $10. When we got inside, the lady at the service desk was talking on the phone. The line behind us was getting longer. We paid for admission without getting any sort of greeting. There were many different activities for us to do at the aquarium. Our son enjoyed watching the different marine life at the aquarium. Our son was a little nervous at the few animals he was able to touch such at jellyfish or starfish. They had a speaker tell us about sturgeons. Our son enjoyed his experience at the aquarium and that is what matters, but we feel the parking fee is quite shady.

Came up here for a quick day trip and had a blast! Great family friendly place. They even had a touch tank. Very affordable, they even offer some discounts for elders and low income. Spent roughly 2 hours there with our baby. Cute gift shop, my son even picked out a little plush souvenir. Parking is $5 which seems a little steep but it benefits the Aquarium.

Maybe it was because this is the first aquarium I've been to, but this place was great. There was lots to learn and a lot of beautiful animals (The aquarium has some other water loving creatures, not just fish.) It was good to know that a lot of the animals there are rescues, and interesting the read the story behind each one of them. My only restraint with recommending this place is that you may not want to leave!

Highly recommend! So many things to see, and plenty of interactive experiences. The view of Lake Superior from the balconies are AMAZING! We went specifically to see the otters, and they did not disappoint. So adorable!

Our kids loved this place. It wasn't too busy towards the end of the day and is small enough to do in an hour or two. Be sure to check out the Sturgeon Pool where you get a chance to actually touch these fish. There is also Jelly Fish, a two story aquarium of tons of lake fish from bluegills to muskie and everything in between. They have a water activity area that showcases the great lakes and the kids can get their hands wet. Turtles, snakes, eagles and a whole lot more. Kids and adults will love it.

Had a great time at the Great Lakes aquarium! Lots of interesting exhibits to see, even for people who don't just like fish. There were ducks, turtles, and terrestrial habitats galore! We had a lot of fun there. Exhibits being updated constantly.

They gave a discount to my family because we are low income and the animals looked to be in good shape and we enjoyed the experience overall. Parking is a bit expensive at $10 but it was fine…my issue was the Asian guy running the sturgeon touch pool. He was extremely rude and ruined the experience for us. He was wayyyy too overboard when it came to touching them. I can understand some people don’t listen but everyone was and he was still being way too overbearing. His tone and how he said things was not needed. He even made some girl next to us embarassed and not want to touch the sturgeon anymore. Ridiculous. Don’t have something like that if you are going to be psycho about it. People get excited and forget sometimes. Calm down a bit. Other than that, my birthday there went decent.

I think the prices are high, but my grandkids loved it, and I have to admit that the exhibits were very nice. I enjoyed seeing everything and learned a lot about the history and make up of Lake Superior and the Great Lakes. I was a little annoyed at having to pay high prices for admission and then another $10 charge to park. If I would have known that the parking cost that much, I would’ve found someplace else to park that was free and walk there.

Really neat. Lots of cool educational exhibits. Although, I admit I'm personally more interested in the animals and other sea life, so I would have preferred more focus on them and less on water science things, but I totally understand why it's there and appreciate that it's a conversation that's happening. The otters were a blast to watch as was the eagle/turkey vulture exhibit. Real fun.

This aquarium is AMAZING. I couldn’t believe how many exhibits they had! My fiancé and I explored this aquarium for around three hours, and we loved every second of it! This is also a really amazing place for photography, I was able to get some incredible pictures of the animals here. I can’t wait to go back!

Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, a lot of the hands-on exhibits were closed. But we still had lots of fun reading about all of the different animals to the area. We also learned a lot about ship wrecks and rescue animals. The otter was probably our favorite! My kids want to return after the pandemic!

Great small local aquarium. More about local water creatures and a few exotics, though my posted photos may suggest otherwise. Great education about native vs invasive species in the great lakes. Definitely recommend a visit if you are in the area.

The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the fish where they were at, and everything was very clean and easily accessible. If you haven't been here it is very much worth it, especially if you love aquatic life! The animals are very well taken care of, from the enclosures to the staff communicating to tourists in the touch pools, and that definitely made the experience more enjoyable.

I remember hearing some people dismiss the GLA in the past. Maybe things have changed. It was enjoyed by all of us. Young and old. The pace was perfect as were the displays and activities. All of the staff were kind, informative, and helpful. The GLA was easy to access, clean, and modern feeling. It was also a plus to purchase your tickets and pay for your parking online. I highly advise this place.

The Great Lakes Aquarium really was amazing! There are a variety of activities available there, including watching the stunning marine life and having fun with the toy motorboats at the brand-new display. A touching pool lets you get close to stingrays, crabs, and other creatures. The bald eagle, turkey vulture, ducks, and many other animals all have their own little habitats. In addition to the tank itself, there are numerous floor to ceiling windows that allow visitors to observe the outside environment. The ideal location for viewing the aerial lift bridge is right next to the playground. Overall, the Great Lakes Aquarium is a must-see attraction in Duluth, Minnesota, and it is well worth the trip.

The aquarium itself is 4 star worthy. Not amazing, but enough to give my kids am awesome afternoon. The parking situation there, however, is a little sneaky. We've gone multiple times over the years and parking was always charged at the little parking thing with the gate as you pulled in. Now, the gate is up and no one is in it. There was no clear signage stating the parking payment was due elsewhere. We drive up and park. There were multiple school groups present and as we walked to the door with our 4 kids, we commented on all of the high school aged kids around the entrance. Apparently there was also a small sign and a kiosk in this same area to pay the parking fee ahead of time. It was not well marked and for all we know, kids could have been blocking the view to the single sign. We exit later to a $35 "parking ticket " issued by a private parking company. The aquarium staff were rude and initially did not want to help my husband with the issue. Eventually they helped call the company, but only after he got them to admit people get upset all the time due to not seeing the sign. Heads up, they don't make the parking situation clear and use a contracted service to trap you.

This was so much fun! We spent over three hours going through the exhibits. The staff was very friendly and super knowledgeable. They were able to answer any question we had about the animals and then some. We even had the opportunity to touch jellyfish, sturgeons, starfish, and shrimp. Something we had never done at other aquariums. I also enjoyed that they display information not just the types of animals they have but then also about the specific animals they have and where they were found, how old they are, and why they might not be able to survive in the wild.

The aquarium is very neat and was fun to visit. Tickets were a little expensive but goes to a good cause to help the animals. I did think they could have validated parking if you bought a ticket as it cost $10 to park for up to 5 hours which was the cheapest. Overall fun to see with family.

This is not like any aquarium I have been too. I love that they have rescue animals that they are rehabilitating. Felt as safe as you could get and still be open during CoVid.. lots of signs to designate route and leaving space. Also it's a huge building. So great to see fresh water animals at this scale.. and who knew sturgeon were so gigantic and prehistoric looking??!! The otters are absolutely adorable and fun to watch play around. Amazing to see an eagle up to close! My nephew who loves aquatic life really loved being here despite being on the cusp of being a "tween"

There is plenty to see, but less to do right now unfortunately. Even during the pandemic, the aquarium is a good place to spend an hour or two with the family though. They've taken good precautions and made as much of the facility available as possible. What you can do is still engaging and definitely exciting for the young ones and the large thank is still mesmerizing to all. We're local to the area and enjoy coming here once a month or so to see all the animals and talk with the wonderful and knowledgeable staff.

The reason for 4 stars is looking at the Eagle with the Vulture. The Vulture was trying to beat up the Eagle. Lol. The ducks are beautiful!! The tortoise is huge! See photos. Although Duluth is sizable, and full of entertainment to draw in tourists, I had never expected to find an aquarium in the Twin Ports. I was more than pleased with what I found. There was the quaint aspect of local species, like ducks and otters and the lake fish you'd see in a huge Cabela's store tank. But what made it "legit" as an aquarium, for me and my standards, was a rich saltwater display. Containing jellyfish and seahorses is a must!!! In spite of covid, I got to dip my hands in the jellyfish touch pool. I don't remember being able to do that at the bigger aquariums I've visited on the coasts. I loved the potbellied seahorses and pipefish, and was amazed to the see the little tank full of dwarf seahorses. The albino turtle 🐢 was a super cute rarity. My only issue is that the gift shop NEEDS to carry "Great Lakes Aquarium" fridge magnets. I never leave an aquarium without getting a souvenir magnet, and the generic "Duluth" and "Minnesota" magnets just didn't cut it for me... tsk tsk tsk. 😀 I told the young gentleman at the cash register of my concern, but I don't he's going to lose any sleep over it. 🙃

  • 4/5 Some B. 2 years ago on Google
Great alternative to the typical Duluth experience. Small but plenty of variety for the kids. The "touching" parts of the exhibit weren't very kid friendly as the sides were very tall and most of the animals were far from the edges or in deep water. There are several viewing platforms that offer unique views of the shipping harbor though!

  • 5/5 Keith N. 1 year ago on Google
Great way to spend the afternoon. I will have to bring the kiddos with next time especially since they have several kid friendly dispalys throughout and my kids in particular love getting wet (display about how locks work etc)

One of our favorite places to go in Duluth! We bought a membership when we first moved up here because we knew that we knew that the kids would love it—we have probably stopped in at least 10 times since last fall. The kids never get tired of seeing all of the fish and other animals, having fun in the play areas, and we always have to go touch the sturgeon! So cool to be able to see fish that are local to the area.

  • 5/5 Anna B. 10 months ago on Google
A fun place to spend the afternoon. Unfortunately a lot of the touch pools were closed today. So we were only able to touch the sturgeon. Lots of wonderful experiences and areas to look around at for all ages, Our group had 2 year olds up 13 year olds, 20 year old and adults. Everyone was able to enjoy the place and see things and do things together and separate. The river Otter was fun to watch.

  • 4/5 Amy L. 9 months ago on Google
Staff were friendly and informative. Facility was clean. We appreciated that majority of the creatures aside from fish that were at the facility were there due to a medical condition or injury that would notably limit their ability to survive in the wild. We were very sad that the opossum and otters did not come out to play while we were there. They have a super cute little gift shop too!

  • 5/5 Richard E. 6 months ago on Google
Fun aquarium with lots of touch pools. Great for kids with lots of interactive exhibits and some play areas. Possibly every kids dream of getting to watch otters slide while using their own kid slide too. Skunks were fun to was too. Also, great for adults with lots of informative exhibits and signage. Would go back. Spent about 2.5 hrs with a 2 year old, which was enough time to walk through all major areas.

This aquarium is terrific. They have fossils of amphibians and reptiles. Spectacular exhibition of lake fish. We saw a lot of species for the first time. It is a fantastic place for kids. Very didactic and entertaining. They have fantastic views. If you visit Duluth, you must go there.

We love taking our little one to the aquarium! It's a great indoor activity to get out of the house in winter and it's educational! If you plan to visit 2-3 times a year then a membership might be worth it for you.
