There is coal mine show which is made as a replica of a real coal mine. There is some work in progress going on for new science related topic. Ticket prices are also reasonable. No prior booking needed. The museum was excellent collections of scientific models. Also some geographical models were excellent. The various machine prototypes provide well understanding of scientific concepts. One full day was not sufficient to grab the in depth knowlege on various subjects. Excellent place for the students who were more interested to see practical models on their study.

Very informative and engaging place. It would take many hours to visit the entire museum which comprises of many different aspects of science. There are working as well as stationery models and shows are being organised, do check the timings of the shows before visiting. It is good to take the package ticket as you don't have to come again to the main counter which is in the main gate. Washrooms are clean , there is a canteen and main entrance has food options. Parking is present inside the premises. It is located at a walking distance from Birla temple and Haldiram food mall is just few foot steps away. Toddlers have 2 floors dedicatedly where they could enjoy hours together by the time to visit the entire place. Their are guards and caretakers everywhere to take care of kids.

Birla Industrial and Technological Museum is the first scientific and industrial museum in India, is one of the prime attractions of Kolkata. The Birla science museum was made possible under the initiative of Dr. B.C. Roy, the Chief Minister of West Bengal. It is the best place for students. Students comes here, to gain the practical knowledge about science. BITM housed a few galleries at the time of initiation. Gradually, it is constantly adding new galleries.

A really good place to visit with students and little kids. Full of scientific dioramas, models, and experiments. Have visited this place for the 4th time. You can also spend some idle time, if you just wanna visit. There are some interesting shows you can find here. Only fact that needs to be taken care of is the cafeteria isn't that big and resourceful. Other than that, it's a great place!

It's a fantastic and marvelous museum for Technology and Science in Kolkata. I think everyone should visit once this place, although it's not possible to visit and observe all the galleries in a day because there are huge things to know and learn. Every age group from child to old will be interested to visit this site. There are amazing galleries like automotive and transport, physics, biotechnology, planetary systems and galaxy, mathematics, electricity, digital gallery, television, children's gallery and so on. One of the fantastic shows is coal mine. This museum is a marvel of education, science, technology and engineering. Here I'm attaching few pics of visit. Thank you.

Birla Industrial and Technological Museum (BITM) provides an opportunity for younger minds to experiment and understand the basic concepts of science. The Birla Industrial and Technological Museum boasts of a wide spectrum of gallery and design work ranging from basic to advance science such as electronics, Children’s corner, Transportation, Physics, Electricity, Numbers Fun, Nuclear, Communication as well as Mining, Iron, etc. The BITM visit was very interesting due to multiple reasons – the key being a mock coal mine that taught us a thing or two about coal mining. In an artificial setting, the place appeared almost too real and true. Apart from this, there was live science show with demonstration on liquid nitrogen. Apart from this, there was a 3D show. Overall, it was a place recommended for children for few tips and tricks on science and technology.

Visited on 13.03.2020.I felt nostalgic to be here in this fascinating museum for the second time in my life alongwith my seven year old son as my first visit here was during my own schooldays ! This museum has attracted one and all to the various facets of science and technology through all these years. It will continue to captivate students in particular and also other visitors in the years ahead. With all safety measures in place and much to our elation, our favourite science museum has reopened on 10.11.2020 after remaining closed for months due to the pandemic.Hence my last visit here on 11.11.2020 was also special.👍

Great experience! The building is huge and beautiful, so many parts and sections are there, a perfect place for family outing cause the place is very educational and full of knowledge and art, in the museum washroom, canteen and drinking water facilities are there, nearest metro station is esplanade metro station and nearest bus stop is esplanade bus stop, parking is available and free and the ticket price as per now is 50rs. for adults and 20rs. for children's. If you are planning to visit the museum on holidays or weekend with family then i would suggest you to avoid the long queue book the tickets online from their official website, also definitely visit the one of the main attraction that is the Egypt section.

Okay so this place is not for kids per say. The perfect age range would probably be 15-18 and that too guided by some teacher or a parent who can explain what is it that they are looking at. Any younger than that, it is definitely all very fun to look at but not much can be understood. That said, this place has many things. Look out for the 3D Show, the High Voltage show, the Coal mine tour. All of them add to the experience. It is an Industrial and Technological museum and it is true to its agenda. A definite no brainer in its category.

Birla Industrial & Technological Museum (BITM) in Kolkata, the first science museum in the country under the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India, is engaged in popularizing and promoting science especially among the youth through various interactive models, exhibitions, educational programmes and activities throughout the year. BITM facilities are specifically designed to augment the learning curves of the students not only on curricular concepts in basic physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology, astronomy, electricity, electronics etc., but also on current topics of interest in science & technology and related social issues. We also offer a number of very educative and exciting science shows for organized groups.

Very nice museum in the heart of the city. Entry fees is Rs.50 for normal entry or you can choose package of Ra.75 which includes 3D show(Rs 30) , Bubble show and Coal Mine Show(Rs.15). I recommend you to buy the package you will be in profit. Some other shows also available. Some parts of museum is very interesting and some may bore you. Food cost is very reasonable. I bought cold drinks at it's MRP. X-factor - In very nominal cost you can learn many things in fun way.

It's one kind of place you will never ever get bored. You can call this "The mini Science city of Kolkata". And also it's very educational. It has Taramandal, 3D movies, Coal mine , kids floor, and many such science stuffs. A must visit place for Brainiacs and also for everyone. It is a place you must visit with your young kids. This will not only enthral them, but also will sow the seeds of curiosity and excitement in their young minds. Due to Covid situation, Coalmines and space theater is temporarily closed, but you still can enjoy the 3D show, Bubble show & Fun Science by Kanishk Chakrabarti! Good & educative show by him! One day is required for the whole place & try to reach early, (by 10am) so that you may enjoy both the new & old buildings. Kids will specially love the 3rd floor where there is Kid zone, Bhulbhulaiya, trains, etc. On 4th floor, you must not miss the bike ride (10/-) & other Digital application. There are interactive displays at every floors & galleries which will teach you lot, but on a lighter note. There is a cafeteria too on the roof top of old building where you can catch some snacks or lunch. Lift facilities are available in both buildings for the old people. AND LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST! DO NOT FORGET COVID-19 SOP. Bring your own mask, hand sanitizer and maintain so ial distancing. 3 cheers.

'To me the visit to Indian Museum was informative, educative and historically nourishing which is going to linger in my mind for a long time." The oldest and largest Museum in India is Indian Museum in Kolkata, near Park Street Metro Station. It has rare collections of antiques, arms, armors, coins, statues, masks, fossils, arts, stuffed animals, tombs and so much more from India, Asia and other parts of the World. The building itself reminds us of British legacy with a splendid architecture and a fabulous landscaped park right inside the building.

I have been across many museums across this globe without knowing there is a jewel right below my nose. Trust me if you love visiting a museum then please tick this one in your checklist. Just a word of caution. Get your expectations low about the ambiance It is located in a heritage building with a large lawn. Such grandeur is restricted only to the building. The maintenance is very poor as most places are not even dusted. However, the quality of display is the best in the world. It has fossils of prehistoric times , metals of all varieties, all kind of animal world. It’s like an one stop encyclopaedia. If you have a child please do take them. Importantly as an adult you will learn a lot The entry feee is Rs 50/- per adult and for photography its Rs 50/- even if you shoot with your mobile phone. I just hope there is a private entity which gets involved so that at least the museum can be managed liked the best in the world

This Museum is one of the oldest museums in India. It will take you almost 2 hours to see all the galleries in this museum. If you are interested in history then only visit this place. Government can invest more here so that more tourists are attracted.

Many of the science models were not in working condition. The information regarding timing of the special shows should be displayed better on the website & in front of the ticket counter, otherwise one can't decide when to start touring the museum. I visited just after opening, many science models weren't switched on for the first half 'n hour. Otherwise, a very nice place to increase the inquisitiveness towards science and technology for the common public. The mock coal mine is a must.

The measuam was excellent collections of scientific models which demonstrates well the various concepts of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. Also some geographical models were excellent. The various machine prototypes provide well understanding of scientific concepts. One full day was not sufficient to grab the in depth knowlege on various subjects. Excellent place for the students who were more interested to see practical models on their study.

Informative kids play area with various science related experiments for display. Many more to learn and experience science. Taking notes for college and school students will help to know the different level of science. One can see wonders on sciences. Play area of kids is well designed. However experience yourself.

Whole day outing should be planned... lots of things to see and understand.... people of every age could learn or refresh their knowledge from here... good and educative shows are also shown here. Little bit of maintenance is required. Most of the shows are closed due to covid currently.

Great experiential centre for self and children. Fun way of learning science, maths and bio technology. There's an entire floor dedicated for young kids (below 7 years of age) with bike games, VR games for pre-teens. The facility is kept clean with necessary amenities. Don't miss the 3 D show & mock up coalmine

Birla Industrial and Technological Museum The first science museum, Birla Industrial and Technological Museum (BITM), Kolkata under CSIR43, was opened on 2 May 1959. In July 1965, the second science museum of the country, the Visvesvaraya Industrial & Technological Museum (VITM) was opened in Bangalore. What are the things kept in Science Museum? A science museum is a museum devoted primarily to science. Older science museums tended to concentrate on static displays of objects related to natural history, paleontology, geology, industry and industrial machinery, etc.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Birla Industrial and Technological Museum, and it was an absolute delight! Nestled in the heart of the city, this museum seamlessly combines science and history to provide an enriching experience for visitors of all ages. From the moment I stepped inside, I was captivated by the diverse exhibits that showcase India's remarkable journey in the fields of industry and technology. The museum beautifully weaves together the past and present, offering a comprehensive look at the evolution of science and technology in the country. The interactive displays and hands-on exhibits make learning a fun and engaging experience. It's the perfect place for families, students, and anyone with a curious mind. The staff is knowledgeable and approachable, always ready to answer questions and share fascinating insights. One highlight of my visit was the planetarium, where I was treated to a mesmerizing show that transported me to the farthest reaches of the cosmos. The attention to detail and the use of cutting-edge technology in the presentations truly set this museum apart. The premises are well-maintained, and the layout is easy to navigate. The inclusion of multimedia elements and multimedia guides enhances the overall experience, ensuring that visitors leave with a deeper appreciation for the role of science and technology in shaping our world. Whether you're a science enthusiast, a history buff, or just looking for an educational and enjoyable outing, the Birla Industrial and Technological Museum is a must-visit. I highly recommend it and look forward to returning to explore more of its captivating exhibits in the future.

This has to be one of the best technological museum not only in India but possibly in the world as I have been to similar museums in the UK and the US. The lucidity of the explanations of scientific processes is above par excellence and the exhibits are very interesting for young and old alike. I remember coming here every Sunday with my dad nearly 30 years ago and the recent visit showed me how much the museum has kept with the times! Highly recommended if you are visiting Kolkata!

It is really a great place for science enthusiasts to see. Specially the new Biotech lab which has been opened recently here has a great variety of features and also great variety of message as I being a student was there and was able to see the various principles on which the Machines operates. But the only thing that I don't like here is that the food that they sell inside is overpriced.

Science is fun here through interactive models and displays. Covers basic physics chemistry biology to space, computers, vehicle engineering to nuclear physics. Lots of opportunities to try out different concepts and learn through doing. Possibly one of the best possible day out for young ones.

Birla institute and technological museum is a wonderful museum in kolkata. It has designed various field of science. Not only science but also mathematics. It requires minimum of three to four hour. It develops new technology that creates interesting among the travellers. It also focus new government project demo like Gagan yaan. It's the physical science experiments really heart touching. The biological sciences are just the picture if it has some demo made of plaster of paris i think it can be the attractive one. The mathematics also some are amazing but some should be developed with respect to the need of the children. because some of mathematics are i think the old model one but overview it's of 5 point out of 5. That they touches every aspect of science today. Just go through the museum and see the all. Thanks

Loads of information stuffed within this huge buliding .... I would suggest to go there with people who are expert in their field ... Otherwise there are so many things you cannot just understand by just reading the description plate tagged within.... Also you have to keep patience ... As there is so much to know upon specialised subjects .... Its a great place to visit for school college students and competitive exam aspirants .... As it will surely enrich their study or subject matter

I visited on 12th August, 2023 and sharing my experience of that day. A must and worth place to visit in Kolkata. Lots of different science instruments of different fields are available to try and play along with them, restriction free for our fun and understanding. Live and recorded demonstration were available as well and the Live shows that they are offering are full of knowledge and offcourse fun. If you have any level of eagerness to know about physics, biotechnology and instruments used in old days for communication then this place is for you. Most importantly we can try those instruments as well and guides are there who will easily help us to know how it will work all of these at no additional cost. And children will love these place, hard to spot a crying kid here. They have lot of items which will keep them busy and all will give them knowledge and make them sharp.

  • 5/5 HICONICS CORPORATE P. 6 months ago on Google
This is a very reasonably priced place and full on entertainment for children of all age groups from toddlers to older teens. They can learn so much too. So can adults. There are 3D shows, science shows, arcade like bike rides and a children's indoor playground at a fraction of the cost of children's indoor playgrounds. There's a car, train, history of locomotives etc edutainment but those are of less interest to me- as the mother of a toddler I take my child to the indoor play area most often

Birla Industrial & Technological Museum seems to be a great place to visit. Pros: 1.Interesting exhibits on science and technology. Interactive displays and demonstrations that make learning fun. 2.A good place for a family outing or a day with friends. A potential downside: It can get hot and crowded, especially during peak season. Overall, Birla Industrial & Technological Museum seems like a worthwhile place to visit if you're interested in science and technology. Just be aware of the potential downsides and plan your trip accordingly. Here are some additional tips for planning your visit: 1.Check the museum's website for current hours of operation and admission prices. 2.Consider going on a weekday or during off-peak hours to avoid crowds. 3.Wear comfortable shoes, as there is a lot of walking involved. 4.Bring a water bottle and snacks, as there are limited food options inside the museum. I hope this helps!
