Trekking to Tung Fort in the Lonavla region of Maharashtra is an incredible experience, especially for beginners. The 4 to 5 km trek offers a perfect balance of challenge and enjoyment. As we embark on the journey, the lush greenery of the Western Ghats creates a serene atmosphere. The trek rewards us with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. As we climb higher, the sprawling valleys and glistening lakes unfold before our eyes, mesmerizing us with their beauty. Reaching the summit of Tung Fort is a moment of triumph. The highlight of the trek is undoubtedly the panoramic view from the top. The Sahyadri mountains dominate the horizon. Descending from Tung Fort is equally enjoyable as we move swiftly through the scenic surroundings. Overall, the Tung Fort Trek is a perfect blend of adventure, natural beauty, and historical intrigue. It lefts us with a sense of accomplishment and a desire to explore more of Maharashtra's magnificent trails.

Absolutely beautiful place in monsoon, just look at my pics and video. Note : Steep climbing, can be difficult to some people. Took 40mins for us to climb. Avoid this trek on hot sunny day. Recommending to climb tikona fort first which is nearby, then do tung fort on same day, easily doable in one day. Tikona climb : 40mins Descend: 30mins Tikona to tung drive : 60mins Note2: Both forts totally accessible for bikes coming from pune, good roads all the way. Also you all can keep your helmets and languages at eaterys at mountain foot at both places. Parking charges and entry fee 50/-

Tung, the watch tower. I went there just after the Diwali holidays in Nov. Not a single person except us was there then. Fortunately we carried food and water with us. You don't need much either as the trek was not long and moderately difficult. We went fairly early in the morning so we didn't feel the sun's rage. Not a big fort. But the view from the top is excellent. Can see other forts like Tikona in the East, Lohagad and Visapur in North beyond the backwaters of Pawana dam, Korigad in the West. Many more might be visible but I don't know them. From Pune you can go through the Mumbai Expressway or the old Mumbai Pune Highway, on both you have to pay a toll. Or you can go via Pirangut, Hadshi. The road is good, the scenery is good, no toll. Will take a few minutes extra though. Have fun trekking.

A good weekend getaway trek for beginners. Will give proper trek experience as trails are not man made, you need to do bit of basic mountaineering which will be thrilling for new trekkers and even kids above 10 years. You will find several eating spots within 2km. Go and have fun. Happy Trekking

Visited Tung / Kathingad last week. 18 Km From lonavla. Road conditions is good for Car/Bike till base of the Fort. Parking is free. Climb moderately difficult. Children to be accompanied by parents or under supervision view steep climb and small pathway. Two small restaurants at base with basic food. No water / stall available in top. Time required to climb for a average person with break is 1.5 hrs and 45 min to descend. if you start before 0900 hrs , climb will be in shadow zone. Main entrance of the fort is hidden and you ll not find it easily. It is towards right side in top of the Hanuman gate . Good view of Tikona fort and Pawana dam backwaters from Top. Overall a good weekend trek.

Tung Fort (किल्ले तुंग / कठीणगड) is about an hours' drive from Lonavala. Good to trek for beginners who want a bit challenging trek. The fort is perfectly positioned adjacent Pawna lake and Aamby Valley and gives a great view a top ,Best tracking place after that night stay at 69 Diamond Vally.

A Short and steep Hill trek, Rural Countryside, Standing tall at over 3500 feet from mean sea level gives you a Magestic 360 degree view of mountains and forts around Pauna Lake. We have visited this place in October and mesmerized with beautiful view from top. Track was straight with straight climbing. This is a moderate hard track for the beginners and will surely have satisfaction after trekking. We have used local guide as we were travelling from Gujarat and we're not familiar with route
