Went there on Monday April 25 around 2 a delightful young lady named sammelia greeted us at the door and was our server. She made our experience very enjoyable. They just had a rush and it was 3 servers and the bartender. Those girls just got there butts handed to them but delivered food and drinks with a smile. Management it's very hard to find good help I know I work in the same industry everything was great my fries were cold only bad thing but the service great will be back with more people thank you so much

Me and a couple of friends dined here on an early Saturday evening after an event we were hosting. There was a rush of people that came in after this so please keep this in mind if you decide to dine here during the weekend. This location is close to where we held our event, and it is conveniently located in downtown Durham. There was street parking available, and there is a parking deck adjacent to the restaurant, if you prefer to park there. We chose this location because we were especially looking for somewhere that had outdoor seating and somewhere with decent food and drinks. While we didn't watch any sports games while we were there, there are large TVs scattered throughout the restaurant so it's the perfect spot to watch a game. The staff that were at the host stand greeted us when we came in and were very friendly. They laughed and joked with us as they led us to where we would be sitting. I ordered the crab cakes (remember to ask for these without the ham if you don't eat meat), which were pretty good. There was a piece of hair cooked into one of our crab cakes so we sent it back for them to remake. The staff were very apologetic about it and agreed to remove the item from our check. I also ordered the shrimp tacos, which I wasn't crazy about, but it was one of the few options I could choose from since I'm a pescatarian. We had two servers, one of which was being trained. They were very kind and seemed to be enjoying having us as guests. The other server (trainer) was very rude and asked us several times only a few minutes apart if we wanted to order anything else, which we interpreted as them being ready for us to leave. I gave this place four (4) stars because of the hair we found in our food and the unfriendly server we had.

Great customer service. Lauren was great. On the contrary, the food is mediocre 😕. Buffalo egg rolls are good. Crab 🦀 cakes missed the mark. And please stay away from the fried green tomatoes 🍅... 🗑!! The atmosphere is really nice and the price points are good 👍🏾, so yeah, you get what you pay for, so to speak. Happy 😊 eating.

I got the Barbecue chicken last night and it seemed a bit chewy, but it was too dark to see the color with the ambient lighting. I took it home and cut it open to see the texture and my chicken breast are raw in the middle. In addition my mash potatoes were cold, everything was lacking seasoning and flavor, and the bartender had the most snarky attitudes I’ve ever seen. I wouldn’t even recommend this place to my worst enemy.

Hostess let customers stand around with many open tables. Couldn't explain why tables weren't being used, then used them. Waiter seemed like he had somewhere else to be. Food was so-so. Very disappointing!

I want to start off by saying the food is always great and we normally have pretty good service! But when we came to eat tonight, instead of leaving full and happy, we left frustrated and upset. Read below for details…. 🙂 First, we waited a good 15 minutes for our server, Josie, to greet us. She took our drinks, delivered them and then finally took our food order. Everything’s going fine until we get our food about 20-30 mins later. Mine came out perfect and tasted pretty good (bbq chicken). My boyfriend ordered the eagle pride burger which comes with lettuce onions fried jalapeños and melted cheese but asked for NO onions. When his arrived it looked like just a regular burger with pickles and onions on it. Told waitress this isn’t the correct burger and she immediately put in the correct burger- or so we thought. Another 15-20 minutes go by and we are STILL waiting on his correct burger… waitress the whole time is just cleaning up from a party that had just left (probably left good $$$ and so our table wasn’t worth the time) and when she’s finally done, she walks and grabs his burger from the back. Well, it comes out cold with a bunch of onions and no fried jalapeños… we are pretty disappointed. But guess what the best part is??? SHE NEVER CAME BACK TO THE TABLE AFTER THAT. We had the check on the table for the last 20 minutes and she clocked out and left without checking on us or cashing us out. My boyfriend & I are both servers and understand that mistakes happen. We understand that we have to be patient as customers- but the service that we received tonight was unacceptable. Josie was very ready to go it seemed like, or she assumed that she wasn’t going to receive a good tip because of her mistake. But the one person that I do truly feel for, was the nice blonde lady that came to our table once Josie had left to see if we needed anything else… she had to clean up our whole table. Not a single item was pre-bussed- not even the first incorrect burger that was served. But hey, at least she left off our drinks, right? The company will be happy about that!

We ate here before a matinee show at the DPAC and were put on a wait. The wait was quick and were sat immediately. Our service and server were amazing. We wanted to make sure we ate in a timely fashion so we wouldn’t be late for the show and they made it happen. Vibe was great inside with patrons watching the Bulls game and eating before the show. Food was made quick and quality did not suffer. Hummus and Fried Green tomatoes were delish. My Crabcake sandwich was tasty and filling and the tots were the right amount of crispy. Great place for games, pre-game, and gathering.

Our waiter was new. It was the first thing he mentioned and he pre-apologized for not knowing everything on the menu. Regardless I went with his recommendation for the spicy chicken sandwich and it was simply amazing. We also had the pork belly tacos and the fried BLT. Everything was excellent. The service was good and the location even better. I would definitely eat here again next time I'm in town.

Nice enough atmosphere, but they got the order wrong on me both times I was there In the same weekend. Among other things we ordered, both times I ordered a Caesar salad with grilled chicken, and emphasized no croutons. (No bread of any type for me) While I'm pretty sure both the wait staff got my order right, the kitchen brought out the order with croutons both times. My ribs were overcooked, overly charred. Also on my second visit, the chicken wings were slightly over cooked. Finally, the brussel sprouts were overly dry, perhaps overcooked as well.

Some of my coworkers and I visited this restaurant today for our team luncheon. We were seated, given our menus, and asked if we wanted anything to drink in a timely manner. The restaurant was fairly empty, so we didn’t have any competing noises or anything that would distract us from our moment. Our server was pleasant and knowledgeable. She helped to maintain a good atmosphere. She also checked on us periodically. For the most part, everyone enjoyed their meal; however, one person ordered a salmon dish but was never asked how she wanted the salmon cooked. The salmon was more rare than she liked it, but she did not want to send it back. My spicy dry rub wings were fantastic! The spicy flavor was not overpowering. The wings were seasoned well, had the right level of crisp and texture, and were a decent size. The portion was good for a lunch-size plate. I could have used more blue cheese dressing though. The amount of sauce provided with the wings was not sufficient.

Huge place, with space for events. The cafe overlooks the Durham Bulls stadium. As much as I really wanted to like the food though, it was not flavorful or well seasoned. I would consider returning for drinks and the atmosphere but not for the food.

Very good vibe, the drink options were pretty good. The flight of different beers is a great options to do a tasting. We had the chicken tacos as an appetizer and it was decent, not the best but does the job. Having the field makes this a pretty cool value. Inside it's full of TV so great place to watch sports and hangout.

Come here to attend a social event. Atmosphere was great. Baseball staff at the patio is great. One of the African American waitress at the bar was rude. Interrupted us to order when we were chatting there

Tonight I had a terrible experience at Tobacco Road in Durham. From the moment we were seated, we noticed that the table was dirty and sticky. Our server came over to take our order but was quickly called away by the manager, leaving us waiting for several minutes. When she returned, she said actually it looks like I will be your server. She took our order promptly, but things only got worse from there. While waiting for our drinks, another server came up to introduce himself as our server, but we informed him that our order was already taken. It took a staggering 25 minutes for our food to finally arrive, and when it did, my cheeseburger was completely different from what I had ordered. It was overcooked, had pickles (which I didn't request), and the bun was strangely cold, as if it had been in a refrigerator. When I pointed this out to the server, he was walking away. After our original server returned to the table, I informed her that my order was incorrect. She then offered to bring me a cold slice of cheese to add to my already cold hamburger, which was not cooked as I had ordered. To make matters worse, I had requested honey mustard for my side of potato tots, but they were delivered with some kind of ranch dressing. After requesting honey mustard and mayonnaise for the second time, I was given yellow mustard instead. To top it all off, there was a .50 charge for the honey mustard on the bill. Throughout the entire meal, we were never provided with silverware and had to ask for napkins. We were only given three cocktail napkins. I had to use the straw from my drink to spread the mayonnaise that was late coming to the table after our food was served. Overall, the service was frantic and disorderly, which was reflected in the quality of both the food and the service. I would not recommend Tobacco Road based on my experience.

Excellent food and wonderful waitstaff. We sat inside in the beginning due to excessive heat and the music was a bit loud. As the evening progressed and it became cooler, they let us move to the patio and it was perfect. Highly recommend.

Use their waitlist option to save on wait time (via phone you can get waitlisted, see their site). Fun to watch practice and grab a bite. The apps we had where pretzel bites and ribs. The ribs were very good and nice portions. Pretzel bites and beer cheese was also good. If sitting outside beware of flying baseballs. I left off a star since our fries were soggy with our burgers. Our wait staff was awesome too.

This is place that you go for the atmosphere. The food is just alright. You can doctor it up with condiments however some things were inedible. The rice and black beans have no taste at all and my black beans looked like they had been sitting for a while. The steak tacos were decent. The chicken tenders were ok. The spicy chicken was ok as well. Our server was awesome! And friendly! The restaurant has a really great atmosphere. I will definitely go again but it won’t be for the food.

Patiently waited over 30 minutes to be escorted to outside seating on a cool night. Waiter seemed to have a lot going on. As my fellow diners agreed, the food was the only reason we stayed.

Tobacco Road Sports Cafe offers a remarkable dining experience that seamlessly blends great food with a vibrant atmosphere. I recently visited this establishment, and it exceeded all my expectations. The standout item on the menu for me was the Sausage and Meatball Combo. This dish is a true testament to their culinary expertise. The sausage was perfectly spiced, with a delightful balance of heat and flavor. It had a robust, savory quality that made each bite incredibly satisfying. Accompanying the sausage were the meatballs, which were equally impressive. They were tender and juicy, cooked to perfection, and served in a rich, flavorful marinara sauce. The combination of the two elements created a harmonious dish that was both hearty and comforting. The ambiance of Tobacco Road Sports Cafe is another highlight. The setting strikes a perfect balance between casual and upscale, making it ideal for both a relaxed meal with friends or a special occasion. The sports-themed decor adds a fun touch, and the numerous screens ensure that you won’t miss any of the action, no matter where you’re seated. Service at the cafe was attentive and friendly. The staff was knowledgeable about the menu and offered great recommendations. It’s clear they take pride in their work and genuinely want to ensure a positive dining experience for their guests. In summary, Tobacco Road Sports Cafe stands out not just for its excellent food, particularly the Sausage and Meatball Combo, but also for its welcoming atmosphere and attentive service. It’s a place where you can enjoy great food, watch your favorite games, and feel right at home. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a top-notch dining experience.

We had a big party, took five grandchildren after Cirque du Soleil. We all had a great time, the staff was very good to them, and my wife love the Demon Deacon Pasta.

Had a great time here! The food quality was superb. I came with a large party of 14, and the service was great. As a vegetarian I was able to choose from about 6 entree options and about 8 side orders. To make it even better, you can sit outside and have a great view of the Durham Bulls stadium. Great vibes, great food! Definitely recommend!

As a paying customer who made a reservation. As a black Person I felt we were asked to move from a table to accommodate a white family . We were on the patio we were moved from a heated table to an unheated table. I was made felt less than a valued customer.

For the first time ever, I actually have something to say negative about the service. I literally waited 25 minutes for somebody to come take my drink before I got up left because nobody never came to take my drink until I was walking out of the door. It was 12:30pm when I arrived and only 4 tables were being served. The place was completely empty with 2 servers sitting on the back wall by the bar. I watched the server go two tables 2-3 times each that were beside mine and he still never asked if me or my 5 year old son wanted anything to drink. Will not be going back here.

We had tickets to a play at DPAC and decided to eat somewhere close so we could park once. What a great experience. Even the waiting for a table was pleasant as we watched people and different food items come out. The Ultimate Nachos were amazing!!!! Tons of cheese and lots of flavor in the meat and beans. My friend got a big yummy salad. Great place. We'll be back.

Sat outside in the sun due to the wait but it wasn't that bad as long as you have sunglasses. Great outdoor view of the bulls stadium/field. Would be great to eat here while a game was live. Food and beer were good and didn't seem over priced.

When we arrived there was a wait list of 30 minutes meanwhile waited on the bar and decided to eat there, the weather was good, the view gorgeous bc we had the lucky that day there was a game. Despite there were a lot of people the service was quickly and kind. We ordered Down east Nachos, Shrimp tacos and Tobacco Road cheesesteak. It was a lot food but all was delicious.

Went to watch the football game at the bar around 7PM. The experience started off great Meghan was attentive at first once we got our first round of drinks. After the drinks we order an appetizer which took forever to come out. Once we received the sliders they were cold. After I ordered some tots and crab cakes, which were BOTH COLD!!! The bartender needs more than just herself behind that bar. Coming from another person who works in this same type of industry you all must support your staff because this was a terrible experience. We didn’t even get to round two of drinks in GAME NIGHT!

Stopped in to grab a bite before the play at DPAC. Great atmosphere and service. Excellent location. We could see the ball field too!

  • 4/5 The Simple T. 2 years ago on Google
Overall not bad. This review is base more on lack of staff than it is of the staff on hand. Although common in Europe to order from the bar, it’s not the case here in the U.S. there should be more wait staff on hand. Some people were confused and sat around for a bit before they realized that they had to go to the bar to order drinks and food. Regardless of where that sat in the establishment. In any case, the flight of Tobacco Road beer was very tasty and the Durham Bull burger was great. The tater tots were also cooked to perfection. Overall would rate Tobacco Road Sports Cafe higher if only patrons didn’t have to go to the bar to order food and drinks.

Went there with my team and it was a great place to enjoy the game at the patio. Patio seating is amazing. Food was great but could be better. I tried the Wolfpack hot chicken sandwich. It was good but not spicy. Their ultimate nachos were really good. But other food items like sliders , hummus etc were average.

01/22/23 review: we had lunch here before a show at the DPAC. We were seated promptly in the enclosed, heated patio overlooking the ballpark. We had the chopped salad with shrimp and the fried Buffalo chicken thigh sandwich. My salad was excellent. The Buffalo chicken thighs were not very tasty. The tater tots were pretty good. Our server was friendly and attentive. The prices are very good for this downtown restaurant. Portions were good.

Such a great spot to watch sports! The big screens they have are awesome, not to mention it's attached to the Durham Bullls. You can watch baseball games from the patio without buying a ticket, so cool! Food is awesome! Can't go wrong with apps and sandwiches. We had a big work group, and Jessica, the manager, was so helpful and accommodating. Thank you! Delish beer and cocktails, too!
