I had the Vegetarian Arepa with plantains added in, and also the Crispy Chicken Arepa to eat. It was delicious! Packed with scrumptious flavors.

You know that diagram that has good, cheap, and fast? The idea is you can only choose two of the three options because it’s so rare to find all three. Guasaca lives comfortably in the sweet spot of all three descriptors. I can confidently say that because it’s a big part of the reason I’ve visited Guasaca pretty much at least once a week for the past year and a half. Good. I’m admittedly biased because I love Latin-American food. I grew up eating it a few times a week (my mom is Panamanian) and it’s always been my comfort food. However, I can be picky when it comes to the staples like rice, plantains, and chicken. Guasaca absolutely delivers on all of this and more. The bowl options are fantastic and the arepas are a nice departure from the typical burrito or something you might get at Chipotle. Cheap. Cheap can have a bad connotation in a city where you have so many delicious options but trust me when I say cheap it does not reflect the quality of the food. You can get a filling arepa for under $10 and you can get a hearty bowl for around $12 (as of Nov 2022). These prices are a huge reason that I pick up Guasaca so often. It is consistently delicious and I know exactly what I’m going to get for my money which isn’t always the case at cheaper spots. Fast. When I order online they consistently beat the estimated order complete time. They use toast tab for their ordering system so you don’t have to fiddle with any one-off logins or funky systems. A heads up for those of you that prefer ordering in person: I have had a few slower experiences when ordering at Guasca. Usually, it’s because there’s someone who isn’t quite sure what they want to order or how to best order. They also sometimes have big group orders that can add to the wait time. However, I’ve never had either of these issues when ordering online so I definitely recommend that route unless you’d like to dine-in. Pro-tips: try the guasca with their chips, try the dessert cup, and definitely try all the sauces to see which is your favorite. Order in the picture: grilled chicken bowl with white rice, baked plantains, cheese and garlic sauce.

I had always heard about it but first time i actually went into the store. I got one of their new Honey BBQ Arepa...man... I dunno who they got in the back, but it tasted like it was made by a chef! It was so delicious... I'm taking the second one back to my spouse. You know when the food is soo good, you gotta share it?!! I'll definitely be back! I get the hype now, also got a free drink w/ the order of Arepas, so yea I'll be back!

I'm a little torn on this review...the vegetarian arepa was quite good. Great flavor, even though the presentation was rather sloppy compared to some of the other pictures I've seen. The arepa itself was okay, compared to others that I've had - it lacked some structure. However, the salad/bowl was a different story. Everything looked okay but it was sweet. I'm not sure what was going on, are they trying to appease an American pallet? To be frank, I could have ordered something very similar at Chipotle (minus plantains) and the flavor would have been more savory - or put another way, I was expecting dark chocolate and got milk chocolate. Even while writing this review I can't help to think how odd and disappointing it was, especially when the arepa started things off in the right direction. Service was friendly and fast, no bad remarks.

Tonight was my very first time going there. I was hoping to try this different cuisine seeing that it look really good. The service I received was terrible. I ordered two arepas and they fixed only one and never finished the other one. While I waited they fixed the lady they came in after me her salad and prepared to go orders. I waited almost 20 minutes and then they decided to ring the lady with the salad up while I'm still waiting. By this time I'm fed up because they didn't even tell me why it was taking so long or nothing. I ask for money back and then the servers ask if I still wanted wait to wait for food. If I didn't know any better I could imply they have racist tendencies seeing that they fixed the white ladies food behind me food before finishing mind. Not to mention they were very attentive to what she needed but didn't have common courtesty to finish my food which was a very simple order! I'm not going back there ever and I wouldn't reccommend eating there either! Black people beware!

VEGAN AREPAS ARE 5 STAR MATERIAL ALL DAY. delicious plantains, black beans, and mushrooms in the vegan arepa. simply an experience for the mouth. The bowl itself was less wonderful but still pretty solid. Stick to the arepas for the best experience!

Great food for a great price! Arepas are a really fun departure from tacos/burritos. If you don't eat a lot one might be enough for you which makes this the mythical 5 dollar meal. Two for $10 will leave you stuffed! My wife and I tried the vegan and the shredded beef, both were great. Make sure you ask for the cilantro lime sauce and pour it over everything.

This place was delicious! Very quick and you can select what you want in your arepa or chose a signature arepa. There was a lot of seating. Highly recommend!

Not sure if I'm just unlucky but got sick twice in the last two years after eating here, one stomach illness, and recently pharyngitis...not sure if it's to blame but what a coincidence. Scared to eat here now

The food was slightly above fast food quality. We decided to sit outdoors and there's a public seating area that is shared between the establishments at Erwin Square. I'm not sure who's responsible for the cleanliness but it was apparent to me that there is a contingency of homeless people that use the outdoor area and I would suggest that the restaurants clean the tables daily. I gave restaurant three stars on average but I think that's being generous.

Vegan arepas? Are you kidding? So unbelievably delicious! My wife has a Venezuelan grandmother and she was so excited and pleased to have something from her heritage. I just thought mine was amazing and I hope I can go back to try something else.

I usually come here around noon and get a chicken bowl but today I came around 6pm 8/12/24 and was treated unfairly. I can really say today I felt discriminated against and was charged more for a chicken bowl that I always get with no extra charged. The young lady showed her frustration to a customer and when I asked for her name the employees could only tell me she's the manager with no name. Letting me know there is only 2 managers at this locations. I was totally shocked because the way she behave did not represent manager behavior. Throwing the food in the bowl and disregarded the bowl to another employee. After today I will not be back. I will not spend my hard earned money on a business that don't know how to treat customers. I was gonna walk out and not even buy the food but didn't want to cause a problem. Hope in the future the company trains the staff to treat everyone equally and learn quality customer service skills. This is the first time I remember having an arepa, & I loved it! I'll definitely be looking for more places to try them. I got the signature shredded beef arepa and added plantains, it was absolutely delicious!!!!!! No complaints, the flavors mingled perfectly! It was only $7.00, & filled me up for lunch. Super casual place, my one suggestion though is don't order it to go, because I saw a lot of customers returning because their orders were messed up. You can also park in the target garage for free!

This is the best arepa in the world! E live in NYC and come to this place specifically for Guasaca arepas.

The arepas at Guasaca are fantastic, there are so many options and flavor combos (all gluten free, + vegan options), and the prices are super reasonable. I tend to get three different arepas, and I can typically eat two... and then I save the third for later :) The sauces are all tasty and the spicy one is the best (IMO)! I'm GF and every time I'm in the triangle I get Guasaca before my ride back to the coast - my can't miss spot.

Arepas are pretty decent, but too pricey. Not sure if there was a mistake when ringing in the order but we got 6 for $40. $6.75 each is too expensive for the portion size.

Second visit to this location. Guy behind counter gave good portion size. Often in these type of restaurants you get less than reasonable amounts of meat for the price. Was pleased this time that he was fair.

This place never disappoints. I always get the vegetarian or vegan arepas. I don't get there often so I always forget how good the place is. Great portions. Prices. I gave it three for atmosphere because it's basically a strip mall place. The inside is very nice though and clean and they have outdoor seating..

I have been a patron for 6 years now and the quality in the past year has gone down significantly. My husband and I decided to grab lunch at Guasaca today and got a combo of three avocado chicken and a grilled steak arepa. One of them did not have any chicken at all, just the guac. Except the steak all of them were cold and falling apart. My avocado chicken tasted sour/rancid as if the guac had gone bad or something. Very disappointed to see this once favorite decline over time. :(

Delicious and fresh tasting food! I was visiting Durham and stopped here to find some unique and healthy food. I ordered beef and chicken arepas. I ordered a shredded beef bowl with mushrooms, brown rice, spinach, and cheese for my husband. He loved it and he's normally not into trying different foods. They offer curbside service which is greatly appreciated! I'll be back next time I'm in town!

The tortillas are excellent and so are most of the fillings. Still, the last two times I ate there, one or the other was cold. One time, the filling was so cold that I sent it back. Last time the pocket was cold in spots. They must not be thawing them out.

I liked here! I read the negative comments about the service but are totally false, I had a good experience. The service was kind and quickly also the arepas were delicious. I ordered avocado chicken and grilled chicken and steak, with unsweet tea. I ate outside and the atmosphere was relaxed.

Good food not great. It was yummy but didn’t stand out. I had a salad and an arepa. Watch one today, so I was able to save half of the bowl for a second meal

The food is amazing, but I have tried to use their “curbside” twice and both times the phone numbers listed online and on the parking signs just went to a general message that the number was unavailable. I asked the first time and the cashier said that the phones were out. When it happened again, I realized it wasn’t just a one-time thing. Love the food, but don’t think I’ll be back.

Not a bad place to visit for lunch. Very clean. The prices are on par for local eateries, but won't break the bank of the casual diner. I wasn't a fan of their salsa verde (thicker and less spicy than I expected) but that isn't a real deal breaker. Overall, good portions for the price.
