The art exhibition itself was enjoyable but what was up with the security guards? We felt so uncomfortable being followed every step we took even when we took pictures we got stared at, which was really annoying..

They have a great art collection. Even if you are first to the art, there are lots of artists you might know. Their English explanations are well done.

This place loses 2 stars straight off because of the overbearing intrusive security staff dressed all in black they stared at me constantly and followed me around completely over the top and it spoiled my visit. Other German galleries do this too, why?? I work on a gallery and I don’t do it! You don’t need to, manically walking around why?? It’s €9 entry. The building is a good space to display the art. Some great Picassos.

Excellent Düsseldorf art gallery exhibiting 20th century work from it's outstanding permanent collection. Here you will find great work from almost every famous painter and sculptor of the modern era in a wonderful setting.

The k20 art museum is truly one of the best art and design museums I have ever visited. The museum's curators have done an exceptional job in selecting and arranging the artwork, creating a seamless and engaging narrative throughout the exhibits. Also, the interior design is simply amazing. I could have easily spent three hours exploring the museum's diverse and captivating collection. Whether you are an art enthusiast or simply appreciate beautiful design, the k20 art museum is an absolute must-visit.

Never been to a museum so boring. The paintings are ugly and there is no art involved. Many paintings of kids and infants. I cannot believe we have paid money for this. Normally if you pay for a painting museum you expect nice paintings but this place was unbelievably bad. We went there because of the beautiful photos we saw in google. None of them were there. I guess they change everything timely. Very disappointed .

The staff members were rude, cold, and unwelcoming. One of them aggressively and rudely yelled at us because my boyfriend was casually taking photos of an artwork which happened to have other people standing in front of it (with their backs turned, they could not be identified). Photography is allowed and none of the museum guests seemed to mind at all. But one of the employees was very unpleasant and impolite when asking my boyfriend not to take photos of artworks with other people in it. We could honestly sense that the employee's bizarre and extreme response was directed at my boyfriend because he is Asian. We also saw another employee rudely asking another Asian person to put on their mask. We felt uncomfortable and felt stared at by the employees watching over the exhibition. Quite frankly, the museum was not very impressive with its collection either. The receptionist who gave us tickets could not speak English well which made it difficult for us to have our questions answered. We won't be coming back.

We saw the Soutine exhibition here. It was very interesting and then we had a look at some of the other art. There's an amazing Jackson Pollock. We spent several hours here and it was the talking point for the rest of the day.

(Translated by Google) Modern "art" whose purpose is to take the place of real art of real beauty and thus rob us of positive energy and inspiration. What comes to my mind about the works .. dirty, sick, unimaginative, perverted, unaesthetic. People go to such places and look intelligent for several minutes if possible to feel that they belong to the bourgeoisie, laughable. (Original) Moderne "Kunst" deren Zweck es ist wirklicher Kunst wirklicher Schönheit den Platz zu nehmen und uns so positiver Energie und Inspiration zu berauben. Amazing pieces everywhere, but found Security to be oppressive and over-zealous. Visited w my 9 year-son, and certainly felt watched and followed every step of the way. Despite the masterpieces on display, was not an enjoyable experience for this reason.

K20 is a must in Dusseldorf due to it's amazing collection and curatorial quality. In the permanent collection, expect Klee, Kandinsky, and Picasso, artists stemming from the post-impressionist movements and onwards, all threaded together with useful, enriching commentary. The clean setting and clear directions only further enhance the art-viewing experience, as well as the chance of having a special exhibition on view, which I am sure will not disappoint.

I was very disappointed. The art pieces on display lacked artistic merit and were unimpressive. Many of the paintings and "art pieces" looked amateurish and poorly executed. I felt that I wasted both my time and money visiting this museum. However, art is subjective and my experience may not be the same as others. If you're considering visiting, check out the photos here and decide if it it's your taste. I should have done that before.

First Wednesday of each month after 18:00 is free of charge for everyone. Each time a different interesting colorful collection. There is a place for kids to get ideas from books, exchange and talk with each other and make some paintings.

It’s a great museum but nothing stands out compared to all the other museum of the same kind and it’s a bit sad. I like the Edvard Munch exposition !

Amazing collection of 20th Century modern art. It was more interesting for me because I saw artists work that I had never seen before even as illustrations in Art Books. The Jackson Pollack and Klee works facinated me most.

Beware of this museum and stay tuned which exhibitions are available when you visit this place. In my opinion, 12€ are too much for only seeing artworks in the basement and the first floor (due to a renovation in the second floor). Please consider if it‘s worth it to spend your money for seeing only a little number of paintings and installations.

Beware that K20 and K21 are a mile apart. The shuttle bus has only 8 seats. No queue forms, and everyone is surprised. The people at the reception desk do NOT know what is currently on display from the permanent collection, or even which floors are open. We were specifically interested in seeing the paintings by Gerhard Richter which are owned by the museum, at least according to his website. The cashier told us we could see them on level 1 or 2. Level 1 had none, and level 2 was completely closed. If you are interested in something beyond the special exhibits, be careful. We had a very disappointing experience. We did enjoy seeing the Ai Wei Wei exhibit, but there was so little room to walk around the Sunflower Seeds that we saw a gentleman accidentally step into them!

Always super nice exhibitions. Affordable, especially for students. They have a super cute shop that sells postcards and books as well.

Unlike K21, this museum was less pleasant. The shuttle from K21 to K20 took 50 mins to arrive. The driver was rude to the people waiting when we arrived at K21, saying they were too many, can’t they read? Inside despite having combo tickets we were forced to join the long 20 minute main queue, because staff would not acknowledge the queue for combi tickets. Nobody seemed to be in charge. an absolute shambles.

Worth it! During the time I visited, there was an exhibition on Picasso’s work and life. It was very interesting to learn about his life, how it affected his work, and how World War II influenced his paintings. I spent around 1.5 hr just going through this exhibition (mind you I read every work description). As for the permanent exhibition, I spent around 1-1.5hr on it (reading all descriptions as well). I would say if you don’t read all the details like me, you might only need 1-2hr for all exhibitions. If you are interested in a more modern (20th century) artwork, you should definitely visit!

(Translated by Google) The K20, located at Grabbeplatz, offers an excellent overview of the variety of classical modern art styles. The large number of paintings by Paul Klee are worth mentioning. A second focus of the collection is on American art from the second half of the twentieth century. Works by Jackson Pollock and Roy Lichtenstein are worth mentioning here. Also worth mentioning are numerous works by Joseph Beuys and Gerhard Richter's “Mauer”. The gallery has 3 exposition floors, one with temporary exposition and 2 with permanent ones. The temporary expositions were more interesting for us, though the ticket including them costs couple times higher than in the days when just permanent exposition is available. The information brochures one can get at the cashier desk is quite helpful, since for some paintings there is no information available in the exposition hall, even their names. On the last floor there is a quite good area for relaxing with leather armchairs and glass-walls.

As the Germans say, this gallery is klein aber fein - small but with a subtle charm! Technically, the exhibition spaces themselves are large enough to accommodate huge works, like Ai Wei Wei's Sunflower Seeds and IOU, but intimate enough to also allow patrons to enjoy more intimate pieces from the gallery collection. When I visited in May 2019, the entire second floor was closed, so it made the gallery seem smaller than it should have - the quality of the work on display was not affected by these reduced dimensions, but I left feeling like I was hungry for more. Luckily, there is also K21!

It comprises good works from European/German Modernism and its different movements. It also extends for posterior art movements until more recent ones. Amazing artwork but scary experience with nervous museum guards. Unfriendly even angry at my children for being children. They have been at the Tate by themselves and were keen to leave this place. Fabulous setting for all art

The art was wonderful. Lots to see. Pleasantly surprised with the selection for such a small city. The Braque exhibition was wonderful. What was not so great though was the security people, who followed you around as if you were Stéphane Breitwieser. It was extremely off-putting and detracted from the experience immensely. You felt like a criminal. I understand security is necessary but they really need some training in customer service and how to perform their role unobtrusively and without the sense of menace and foreboding they exude. You felt very rushed to get out just to avoid their ominous presence. I have visited art museums all over the world and have never felt so intimidated. Ruined the whole experience.

Housed in a beutiful postmodern building with clean lines and curved shapes and details, the permanent exhibition consists of a beautiful selection of masterpieces by the likes of Picasso, Beckmann, Léger, Klee and representative works of most of the greatest artists of the post-war period of the 20th century.

Enjoyed Joseph Beyes exhibition. But it takes a lot of time to go through everything and to read the book (very helpful!) properly. So I'm doing my homework and coming back

As a big fan of Francis Bacon, I was overjoyed to find not one, but two of his paintings here. Incredible collection and well worth a visit.

Interesting collection with a smattering of works by very well-known artists (Klee, Kandinsky, Matisse, Picasso, Dali) and a very good retrospective of Georges Braqués, the founder of Cubism.

Fantastic museum. Covers the masters of the 20th Centauri. Picasso, Warhol, Dali, the list goes on and on. Even for a novice art lover (like us) the museum has some must see pieces which all can enjoy. Latest exhibitions are quite interesting. Definitely worth a stop while in Düsseldorf. Tickets are affordable and can be combined with K21 combo ticket if you would like to see exhibitions from the 21st century as well

Has a good collection of modern art, from several well-known artists and new ones. I bought the museum's booklet, which for 10 Euros is really worth it.

Nice museum with an extensive collection of 20th century art. When we visited there was a temporary exhibition feauturing the work of Georges Braque that was very impressive. The permanent collection was great as well. More than worth a visit if you're interested in art.

The collection itself is worth to see but what’s wrong with the museum’s security guard? I was in many (!) museums but it’s the first time I wanted to leave asap because they were literally stalking me step by step, looking at me every second. Dear administration, please note that there is a difference between guarding and making visitors feeling uncomfortable! I want to enjoy art, I am not a criminal!

Beautiful variety of artworks and what I loved more was how they were curated together in such a lovely space. Nice bright galleries with tall ceilings and beautiful use of a wonderful building. Luckily it wasn’t busy at all when we visited and it felt like a personal experience. Although we just missed the Munch exhibition by a day too early, the museum’s permanent collection is enough to satisfy.

Fabulous space and amazing collection of modern art. They have at least one painting of most of the early 20th century artists you'd expect to see plus some surprises. Hats off to the curators and those who've decided what to purchase in the past. Very impressive.

Beautiful building with permanent exhibition over 2 levels and changing exhibition space, in cooperation with K21 another art platform (you can get a combined ticket hier). The collection might be bigger that displayed, the permanent exhibition is not so big as expected by the size of the building and price of entrance (12€) but it has some serious gems, including one of the most disturbing and incredible Magritte (see photos attached) and several other highlights, unique pieces of internationally known modernists (and a tad of contemporary). All in all a nice visit, I'd say an hour is sufficient.

Good museum, I think a little bit expensive but everything is extremely well kept and clean so at least you can see the museum is well kept. Also not the biggest museum, you can go round it in less than 2 hours if you just want to see things / take a longer look at a few pieces. Worth a visit! :)

Loaded! One of the best collections I have visited in Germany. Museum itself is full of natural light, comfortable guidelines and most friendly staff.

I would have given 5 stars if I would have considered only my first visit. The museum is huge and it took us 4 hours to do 2/3 of it. The temporary exhibition about Braques was very interesting, with a lot of information nicely conveyed. When I came back in July, it was another story. Although half of the museum was not accessible for renovations, we had to pay the full price. The temporary exhibition was about modern art which is not really my thing so I won't reflect that in the grade as it won't be fair. During my second visit, I've spent around 1h to go through the entire museum.

Nice permanent collection and currently the not to be missed Piet Mondrian exhibtion

  • 5/5 Vaidotas G. 1 year ago on Google
The temporal Mondrian exposition was really great and I really liked slow art experience adwice. Now I know the expositions in the museums are menu, but not to do lists. Choose what you like and enjoy it for a longer time.

It was great and I definitely recommend. Also it is better if you get the double ticket and also visit K21 in the same day. There is no need for buying ticket because even in the weekend there is a line for buying ticket there that doesn’t take more time than 30 minutes (at worst).

  • 5/5 Arman B. 1 year ago on Google
Visited the Mondrian exhibition and enjoyed it! Its a little confusing where to start and fond the right path through but all in all good concept and beautiful showrooms.

Beautiful museum with a wonderful permanent collection including Matisse, Picasso, Dali, Kirchner, Kandinsky, Pollock, Warhol and many others. Temporary exhibitions are also amazing, they bring the best artists and put it in a modern way. Definitely worth a visit if you happen to be in Dusseldorf. The photos are from the Mondrian exhibition in 2022.

This museum has a very fine collection of modern art from between 1920 and 1980 with some great Paul Klee, Picasso, Max Ernst and Dali. Love the lighting and shape of the ceiling too. Only the guards made me nervous because they keep following and watching you.

  • 5/5 Brian K. 9 months ago on Google
This art museum is worth your time. The overviews provided in each room give one a stronger understanding of the time period and context the artist worked in. Numerous famous pieces inspired by Bauhaus are housed in the collection here. It was quite the surprise. I chose not to see the special exhibition and it took about 2.5 house to move through the entirety of the 2nd and 1st floors. Parking was stressful. Plan your parking garage in advance.
