The Filmmuseum Düsseldorf, located in the Old Town of North Rhine Westphalia’s state capital, was opened in 1993. This interactive museum gives an exciting access to the world of movies, spanning from its earliest beginnings to present day. Film hiatory at its best is on display here.

Exhibition is mostly about technical aspects of movie and animation production Pre celluloid storytelling and early history of cinema There are a lot cinematic stuff there Good collection, reasonable and effortless built. Gallery directors tagged and the brief characteristic of the trace, collar Chaplin, a separate Hall of film and photographic technique.

I do not recommend unless you know german because over 90% of the explanations are in german. Also, the exposition is not that well organized - you do not have a clear path to take that will cover all the museum exhibition. Also the exhibition itself is not that interesting. I suggest maybe better buy an ice cream worth of that money

Sunday is a free entrance, the place is not too big There a section for animal actors and how they involved animals in movies over time And another section for history of cinema and the gadgets that were used It was fascinating to see such old gadgets and devices There is a section for ancient arts, such as shadow art

Very interesting look at film history in many areas of film making. From costumes and props to cameras and editing techniques, lots to see and learn about the history of cinema. Lift for wheelchair access and good space to move around inside. Some pieces hard to see for a wheelchair user but these are only a few out of the huge number of exhibits and displays.

Some very impressive, significant movie heritage pieces here, but the lack of guidance within the building and hands-off nature of the museum staff let it down. I think having staff in each key location to offer expert knowledge on the exhibits would make this place incredible... I'm sure I missed a load of context between being foreign and not reading well in German.

The Filmmuseum Düsseldorf invites to discover the world of motion pictures. From the early beginnings to modern productions. Many interactive displays show how some tricks in movie production work. On the top floor there is also a bar space. The black box cinema in the basement shows regularly non-mainstream movies. The entry is free one hour before closure as well as on sundays.

I liked it a lot. There were a lot of niece pieces there and lots of information in either photos or videos format. What I liked the most was the option to create your own animated movie

Mixture of informative, visual and interactive displays showing how motion is captured and shown! Some areas seem a little worn out but overall a fun experience.

Nice Museum, well worth the 5€ entrance fee. Unfortunately, many descriptions are only in German. Also, some maintenance wouldn't hurt, quite a few displays for trial are broken.

There are no English signs for most of the exhibits. Nevertheless, it is an important museum to visit!!!

Unexpensive and a wonderful fun and learning experience. It's not limited to local cinema and there's a variety of experiments to see and do. Free for children. Basic knowledge of German is recommended.

A must see history of film: how the moving picture began in the 19th century untill the Star Trek Next Generation model of the Enterprise. Costumes, cameras, shadow plays... The museum is in its big part interactive, so you can try some gadgets by yourself.

Very nice museum with interactive experience that could be nice for children and adults alike. There where some interesting pieces from different movies, but the activities where the most fun.

Great museum, lots of different things to see and also very interactive. I liked the stereoscopic part. It was free on a Sunday.

The museum was the best experience in Dusseldorf. It was interactive, the space was beatiful and you can spend more than 3h in there. Unofrtunately, some of the info was in German and if you don't know the language you would miss out on some of it but altogether I really enjoyed it and loved the film set on the last floor!

Engaging and interesting learning experience about filmmaking & films. If you’re even a little bit interested in it — it’s definitely a must-visit. Even if you’re not interested in it, I would say give it a try, you might find yourself entertained.

IT’s very interesting museum and many contents are there. For example Chaplin and even some Japanese things!
