Not really a castle so to speak, really a Manor House but plenty of it left to explore for an hour or so. Access off a small pathway from the main road (opposite a white gateway) easy to miss! A fairly easy walk through a cow field but not suitable for those with mobility problems. Some areas have been locked off now due to vandalism by looks of things, and you can't get round to the garden at the back.

Not easy to find the entrance to to the site, sat Nov will take you to a farm with a warning sign of no entry to the castle, then when you can locate the sign and style its hidden by overgrown hedges. The access is over farmland, three fields. Castle is currently closed, so only able to view outside area

Fantastic place for a quiet adventure and a picnic. Lots to explore, and not far pff the beaten track. If you find the signs, trek through the cattle fields it wont take long to find!

A lovely old Elizabethan manor house, not a castle, but worth a visit, unfortunately you can't get to it by car , you have to park in the lanes and walk along the public footpath to it.

Really enjoyed visiting the castle. It’s in excellent condition, and feels like a little gem nestled in the hillside. Only thing that dampened it (and this isn’t a suggestion that it should be any different) but there were cows in the first field when crossing using the public footpath. At one point I had my son walking the other side of the fence, as they were not happy to have the two of us there. We took a long detour, but I won’t be visiting again until they have been moved. Obviously the footpath crosses farmland so this is completely acceptable and I would not expect any less, but we did not feel safe so have learnt for next time. Looking forward to going back when my nerves don’t have to be tested quite so much!

What a lovely castle a lot left compared to a lot I've been to in the past. Children enjoyed too I'd highly recommend this castle to anyone who enjoys ruins of old castles

Fabulous hidden gem for kids to explore! Difficult to find, but lovely and peaceful, we were the only ones there.

Great place with interesting history well described in cadw info boards. Be sure to climb steps to see view over the gatehouse. To get there you need to park in the layby at Cowbridge end of St Mary Church village. There is a brown sign but is only visible if travelling from St Athan. The walk is less than 10 minutes across fields with cows and a few stiles (the first is the most challenging). I took my dog with me. I had to lift him over the stiles and keep on lead near the cows and at the castle, but otherwise a dog-friendly small trek.

Fascinating old ruined 'castle', dating from medieval times. In reality a fortified manor house. Information is provided on various information boards and there are wooden steps enabling access to an arial walkway. It is unstaffed and free to enter. Parking for two or three cars is available on St Athan Road just where it crosses the river, and the castle can then be acessed on foot via two fields of cows, about 15 mins walk. High stone stiles have to be climbed so the walk is not suitable for everyone.

Its a great little Castle to look around. Its free too but you have to walk across a couple of fields as the farmer doesnt allow you to drive past his farm even though signs show thats the way and theres even a car park there but you cant use it so its baffling tbh.

I wouldn't say that it is a castle as such, but more of a stately home. The history was very interesting on the boards. It is difficult to get into though. Be prepared to walk a while or climb a wall (if you follow maps that is. I don't think the farmer likes people)

Drove here from Porthcawl to find super water logged fields that couldn't be crossed with 6 children & a miserable farmer who doesn't allow people to use the foot path or carpark for the castle. So we didn't get to see the castle, unfortunately, which does look brilliant.

Completely impossible to access finding the entrance was a nightmare could have walked up the road to make things easier but it’s somebody’s farm. It could make a extra path for people to visit the castle rather than walking through a soggy field full of cows running up to you do not recommend if you have children that love castles but cannot get into it !

Lovely castle with some stunning views from the top. Free access, parking can be a bit tricky but a short walk from a village and some lay-bys on the main road.

Great old place. We walked from Llantwit major and according the the site it closes at 4 but we got there at 4.30 and the door was still open. Slightly disappointed that lots of areas were blocked of. But still a buitifull place

This is a nice castle to go see. There is a walk to it but worth the visit. This is a really nice castle, with one room sealed off which is in good condition due to vandalism. Well worth a visit.

Followed Google sat nav which lead me to the farm. Then remembered the comments here. Footpath starts on St Athan Road. There is lay-by room for 2 cars. Easy walk across fields. Well worth the walk. A shame there was parts of the castle under reconstruction. But I can always revisit.
