Ashfield's
quite
a
famous
spot
for
Shanghainese
restaurants,
particularly
those
that
specialise
in
hand-made
dumplings.
There's
a
notorious
line
up
of
three
neighbouring
restaurants
with
a
very
similar
name
(Shanghai
Night,
New
Shanghai,
and
New
Shanghai
Night)
🤣.
How
they
came
to
be
next
to
each
other,
how
they
came
to
have
such
similar
names,
and
whether
there's
beef
between
them?
I
don't
know.
But
shameless
plug
-
we
checked
out
all
three
restaurants
last
year
for
the
'Best
Dumplings
in
Ashfield'
video
on
my
You
Tube
channel
and
this
one
turned
out
to
be
my
overall
favourite!
It's
one
of
those
homey,
friendly,
family
owned
restaurants
with
minimal
decoration.
You
know
the
ones.
Husband
and
wife
both
working,
and
the
child
rocking
up
after
school
to
sit
at
a
table
in
the
corner
LOL.
But
one
thing's
for
sure
-
the
dumplings
are
delicious!
Simple
but
done
well,
and
very
well-priced
too.
Ever
since
our
first
visit,
I've
always
gotten
the
pan-fried
pork
dumplings,
the
pork
xiao
long
bao
(soup
dumplings)
and
the
steamed
pork
and
chive
dumplings.
The
pork
and
chive
filling
is
the
stand-out
for
me
everytime.
I'd
think
you
can
get
it
pan-fried
too.
One
thing
I
love
about
Shanghai
Night
in
particular
is
the
dumpling
skin.
Not
too
thin,
not
too
thick.
Just
enough
to
make
sure
the
dumpling
doesn't
break
apart
when
picking
it
up.
Really,
the
perfect
bite.
They
also
have
this
light
and
slightly
spicy
pre-made
soy
vinegar
sauce
if
you
ask
for
it!
If
you've
been
to
Ashfield
before
and
know
of
these
three
restaurants,
which
is
your
favourite?
🙂
