I am a mom of a 10 year old kid. I had to really go to Johnson Park Animal Haven to believe what I had heard from other parents! The zoo is more of a torture for the animals than it is a 'haven'! Animals look sad and stressed. I saw some of them pacing aimlessly as if out of sadness and loneliness. My son ended up feeling bad for the animals as opposed to having a good time that I had promised him. The zoo seemed like it was not being looked after. There was water and waste everywhere and animals seem to be standing in puddles. They all looked sick and cold. I don't intend to go to this zoo ever again and neither should you. It's such a sad sight to see the plight of animals!!

This place is in a flood zone and every hurricane that has hit New Jersey since the opening of this park (back in the 1940's) has jeopardized the welfare and safety of the animals living here. It has been reported that some animals have even died and went missing because of the treacherous water levels that continue to build and build during heavy rain storms. This is not a home but instead a torture chamber that slowly wears and tears on the mental capacity of the residents living here. My son and I came for a visit because we didn't believe that such a place existed but after looking at the anxiety exhibited from the pacing raccoons and fox it's no wonder why my colleagues promised never to revisit ever again. Absolutely disgusting!!!

Park employees and Middlesex county officials do not enforce their own NO feeding policy when it comes to the animals at Johnson Park. The people that visit here have no respect for the animals because they give them nothing but potato chips, French fries, bread, taco shells and saltine crackers. This is not a healthy and sound diet for any animal to have. This is defined as abuse and negligence because it takes place all day everyday. County officials refuse to enforce their own policy as the signs are posted all over the park saying DO NOT FEED THE ANIMALS. ANIMALS ARE ON A STRICT DIET. Shame on Middlesex County Officials and the workers they hire. Release these animals to a sanctuary so they can be properly cared for.

What a unique and hidden treasure of NJ! Over 400+ acres of park to explore, but the highlight are the animals! People bring carrots and celery and can feed goats, deer, pigs, chickens, horses, etc! Animals are very friendly and you can tell they're used to being fed like this. Will 100% definitely be returning soon!

2 generation family fave!!! Been going here for over 30 years, loved it as a kid, love it now too! Lots for kids to see and do, many playground areas, lots of seating and the adorable animals make this place magical! HUGE park so lots of room for social distancing and a great day out.

A really big and rather nice park. It has wide open green spaces, multiple playgrounds, a nice view of the Raritan river, bathrooms, and a free zoo. And plenty of parking. My only criticism is the zoo is a bit rough and feels a bit too focused on customers feeding the animals. But it's free, so it is what it is.

the animals here are depressed and neglected. it took a group of concerned citizens to intervene and get senior animals actual care for their ailments and moved to a sanctuary. this place is so bad they actually agreed to shut down……and then changed their mind. take your kids somewhere else they don’t want to see miserable raccoons pacing back and forth in a concrete cell. also animals drowned here during the storm and the county lied about it. disgusting

It's a nice little park. It's free and our daughter loves to see the animals. I have fond memories of going to see the animals as a child too. The park could use a little love, and some repairs... but it's still a nice place to take young children.

It is a nice place for children to visit a public zoo along the side of the park. It has nice collections of animals and birds. This place is clean and well-maintained. Kids would enjoy it for sure.

I always love to visit this place. You can find Dears, Rabbits, Chickens, Racoons, Fox, Ducks, Peacocks, Pigs, Turkeys, Horses, Goats, and lot more national and international creatures. Visitors can NO LONGER feed any kind of food to these animals as they're on a strict diet. Lastly, Johnson Park is a great picnic place for any size of family and a group of friends. An overlook of Raritan River from the parkside is remarkable and mesmerizing at the Sunset. Great place for walking and running any season any time (dusk till dawn only).

Just dropped in because we saw some alpacas. There are many animals than I expected. You can enjoy it as a free zoo. Some roads are closed, use Rose drive for free parking.

Very nice. Bare bones zoo but great for young kids - they love feeding. Also lots of shade and a few playgrounds right there, bike paths, picnic tables. Lots of parking

Large park with multiple ample parking spots, sports fields, ample picnic tables (some with grills), a long walking/biking path, a couple of small playgrounds, and an animal haven with fenced in animals (completely free and accessible to the public). Great place to bring your kids, and a bag of veggies to feed the animals (except the ones that are on a strict diet; watch for signs). The animal haven features horses, ponies, pigs, goats, deer, llamas/alpacas, raccoons, turkeys, chickens and a few other random species. Many animals are completely tame and will come right up to the fence where your kids can feed them while being delighted and terrified by their chomping teeth! There is a public restroom by the animal haven.
