Stopped by after an RU Football game, perfect ending to a good win. We sat in the outdoor area on a beautiful day and Phil is the man, great service! Good variety of beer on tap and the food was on point. What else can you ask for? We'll be back, kudos.

We visited just before a private party booking, the staff was more than accommodating. It was very busy around the bar, and a staff member walking by offered to give our order to the bar tender instead of us trying to squeeze through the crowd of people hanging out at the bar. We only stopped in for a drink and enjoyed each others company. There was a nice little spot by the stairs to sit and enjoy the atmosphere and each others company. Great place to visit, and I can tell the staff go above and beyond for their customers. It was such a great experience. We will definitely be back.

This place has a beautiful atmosphere outside. My hubby and I were looking for a place to drink and chill and boy was this the spot! The best drink by far was the summer of 75 and the lambsliders were absolutely amazing. We also ordered the cod tacos and other apps which were all good (except the pork belly sliders, which we do not recommend). Savannah was our waitress and she was absolutely amazing. She checked in on us as often as she could and was so personable. We will definitely come back and chill. My only hope was for the management team to start a happy hour menu.

First visit here. Doing a review for another Foodie group.Nice pub feel, different levels/seating areas. Took my daughter so I could try more food. Lol. Started with Irish onion soup. Very flavorful, good mix of cheeses and good crusty bread. Then Irish nachos. A star among appetizers, wonderfully addictive. Great blend of flavors. Entrees were Shepherd's pie and Bangers and mash. Both were extremely good. And then dessert was a highlight! Wow, an Irish cream bread budding that was divine! All the food was very well plated and presented. Service was good. Looking forward to going back soon.

Average pub with average food. Appetizers were Guiness onion soup and the corned beef roll. Soup had a mild flavor, grateful it wasn’t the salt bomb so Many restaurants are guilty of serving. Disappointed that provolone cheese was used, added nothing to the flavor. Corned beef roll is corned beef bits (not chunks) and mashed potatoes in a deep fried roll. No flavor, good fry. Entrees were the fried cod with house-made chips, bacon cheese burger with fries, prime rib with mashed potatoes and spinach and an order of chicken wings. Fried cod had too much batter and lacked seasoning. Cod was just a tad overcooked. House chips would have been great with seasoning. Burger was cooked to order - medium. Bun was greasy. Meat was not seasoned. Prime rib was ordered medium rare and came out medium. Hint of seasoning, desperately needed a hit of salt. Mashed potatoes tasted like boxed or too much stock added, making it grainy. Six chicken wings came in the order. Only 3 were eaten. Chicken itself did not taste good. Basic buffalo sauce, asked for mild and it had a mild kick to it. Drinks were the Enabler, the Rambler, the Take Pear and a Jameson neat. Total bill just over $160. Jose was out waiter. Good service, attentive and helpful answering questions. Food came out at a good pace.

Good place to grab drinks and a bite to eat. They have a good amount of seating and an outdoor area as. Since its located in the heart of a city beware parking isn't always convenient. They do have late hours. A solid variety of beers and custom cocktails. Staff were helpful and polite. It does get crowded on weekends and since it's in a college city

Even though the name and management has changed. This is still one of the best places in the city to have some food, drinks and catch a vibe!

The appetizers were really good. Beer and sandwiches were okay. Expected a better service as water was served only after request. The bread pudding tasted good but a ice-cream with it would have been better than whipped cream. The upside is everything is very affordable here.

Bloody Marys come with a mini slim Jim. Best business decision ever made. Staff makes you feel like you came back to your family home to visit.

We had a reservation here for 9:30pm on Saturday March 19 for my sisters birthday. We had one of the worst experiences ever in this restaurant, please avoid coming here at all costs the server patrick was not attentive whatsoever and any questions you asked he answered with I dont know. He gave us water and didn’t even ask if we wanted anything to drink until we had to signal him to the table. we ordered 2 blood orange margaritas and Didn’t even taste nowhere near good . Since he took so long to come to the table we had to go to the bar personally and we switched one for a beer and when he decided to come back to the table we told him to take off the other one from the bill and told him we switched the other he just rolled his eyes and said okay and walked away . During the end the food took over 30 mins and by the time he gave us the check it was almost 11pm. We spoke to the toy story looking manager bald head with glasses and goatee and he was just as useless to complain to and honestly we would never comeback to this restaurant and would like to speak to someone higher in position cause it was super unprofessional behavior .

Great friendly watering hole. Bar is a bit worn. Hey, it's an Irish Bar! The Fish and Chips were as good as any bar version I ever had. Definetly recommend. 4 blocks to NJT station. Same to State Theatre.

Through word of mouth, I had heard that Blackthorn was a slightly more upscale restaurant located in the George Street area. Visited for the first time last night, and was somewhat disappointed to learn that this is another average college town restaurant with a bar. The last time I visited this location was years ago when it was known as Old Bay, and it had a lot more character in those days. My wife and I ordered fish and chips and the shepherd's pie for dinner. The fish was actually rather good, so no complaints there. The chips that came along with it were also quite good, although excessively salty. The shepherd's pie my wife offered was frankly bland, and had an odd taste to it that we could not identify. Overall, the shepherd's pie was definitely not as enjoyable as anticipated. We actually ended up ordering a full dinner instead of going with our original plan of just appetizers since the appetizer menu was rather limited, and rather pricey for what was offered. The difference in cost between the appetizers we considered and the full dinner was only a few dollars. On the positive side, our server was quite pleasant, very friendly and very helpful so no complaints there as well. Unfortunately, the food and the atmosphere were something of a letdown, so as a result I am not likely to return.

Oh. My. God. I am sorry that I have to give this place even one star in order to post this review. Their onion soup was INEDIBLE and tasted like nothing I've ever had before. Onions were scarce. Broth was almost black and had so semblance of a flavorful beefy broth. Cheese was a cheap alternative to a good melty cheese, and almost non-existent, and they boast a beer undertone which tasted more like cheap rancid beer extract in water. There was no part of this that could even be construed as good. We had ordered several of these, and we promptly called for a full refund, which was given, thankfully. I wouldn't even classify this as food. Inedible garbage. It's impossible to screw up onion soup if you have quality products because there is no skill in putting it together. So this tells you what you need to know.

I can only comment on the weekday lunch experience but the chicken Caesar salad was very good and all the tap beer tasted like they cleaned the taps properly. Very chill, bartender sang along to barenaked ladies. Solid place to kill time near the Hyatt.

Went after a Rutgers basketball game with friends. Excellent food: Bangers and Mash, Shepard's Pie, Chicken Curry, Reuben Sandwich. Everyone was happy. Nice beer selection and a fantastic playlist of music in the background. We will be going again.

Food was decent, but I am never going back to this place ever again. Servers were generally nice but the actual service was slow. I can't believe how slow it was to get any food or drinks. It wasn't even a packed Friday night. Sometimes we had to remind them or get another server to get us something. Worst of all, Tip was already tacked on. We were only 2 people, I definitely wouldnt have given them the 20% they decided to add automatically that's for sure. TLDR: Decent Food Super Slow Service 20% Tip Automatically Charged

Small bar with almost no liquor bottles and 2 beer taps. Bartender messed up every drink we ordered even the beer order. Definitely not an Irish pub I’m used to going into. Vibe was eerie to be honest.

I was extremely disappointed with the food. I was served a grilled reuben sandwich without rye bread or dressing. In addition, the bottom of the receipt stated a "15% discount applied to this bill." However, the aforementioned state was false and the tip was automatically applied without being notified by the staff. I will never return to this establishment.

Not bad, good selection of beverages. Overpriced. Had bangers and mash which was good, but not worth the price. Appeared to be 1 server, including the bar. Still good service though.

The food was amazing, the cocktails were fresh and vibrant, however they just ran out of ingredients for some of their signature dishes like they ran out of risotto for the salmon. I just feel they could be better prepared with a pantry that could be well stocked so they don’t run out of Raw Materials !!!

Good bar to watch sports at. It is no frills and there's lots of beers on tap. It's pretty big inside with an upstairs bar as well.

Our dining experience was absolutely fine except we were sitted next to loud and big companies while there were other quiet tables available. I understand that this was done for the restaurant efficiency but not very client oriented

Good food and nice beer selection. A quiet afternoon and service was good. The Guinness was disappointing though. A rushed pour and bubbly head. You expect better from an Irish themed pub.

Loved this spot! Phil the Bartender gets my vote for the coolest guy I met while in NJ. The vibe? You could tell everyone knows each other and the love is strong. Try the Shepherds Pie! Oh my freaking goodness!

After a busy day at derpycon our group wanted a good meal and across the street was this nice looking Irish pub, being a British expat patriot I know how good Irish food and drink can be and we wasn't disappointed. Our entire group ordered the fish and chips, and honestly? It was very good, even by my own strict fish and chips upbringing, the 'chips'..okay French fries were good, and better than most places and the fish? Delectable, steamy and soft fish that melted in the mouth. What surprised me the most was the homemade tartar sauce, now I personally hate this sauce but what this restaurant did was different, they created their own version which was actually very good with hints of garlic, naturally the entire meal washed down with a pint of Guinness.
