This weekend (1/9/22) was my first time visiting the exhibits in my local museum. In the past, I had been to a friend's birthday party held there and to an art award event when my daughter received two in high school. I was impressed at the quality and quantity of items in the exhibits. There are some interactive elements that encouraged to use without a dowel due to covid. Some repairs are needed on the interactive displays, but overall it is a great place to visit.

Great little museum to take the kids and would be great for just adults too. Art galleries, musical instruments from days of old, an awesome train set mini village, spark lab for children to get creative, clean bathrooms, cute gift shop, and fun New Jersey specific touches. The art galleries have been so beautiful and well done.

This is a hidden gem of a museum. It’s perfect for families with children over the age of 6. It has a nice section about dinosaurs in New Jersey for the kids as well as a section on NJ geological history for the adults. But for parents and children alike there is a gigantic collection of automated music machines and automated dolls. At 2:00 each day they play a group of these machines. It’s really amazing considering how old these machines are and quite entertaining as well. Lots of interactive features. Well worth the modest admission price.

This museum was average all around. They had a variety of things to display but there were some exhibits that were very small. The automatons and music boxes are the stars of the museum. As far as accessibility they did have benches throughout the museum. I was also able to navigate the museum with my scooter. The bathroom was big enough so that I could take my scooter into it if I needed to. I saw a lot of great reviews about the museum store. I was not impressed. It was mainly toys and there was not a big selection. I rarely leave a gift shop without buying something but this one, I did. Another thing this museum is lacking is a small cafe or even a kiosk where you could buy lunch items. It’s a big enough museum where you could spend enough time there to warrant it especially if you have kids and do the Spark Lab. We spent two hours looking through the exhibits.

Wonderful way to spend a few hours. Museum is fascinating, had an interesting combination of art, history and science. The Murtogh D. Guinness Collection is astounding and fun, a huge assortment of mechanical musical instruments such as nickelodeons and musical chests, as well as animated figures dating back centuries. Very cool train setup, lots of different trains and scenes, Very interactive. Museum is beautiful, clean and handicap accessible. Plenty of free parking.

One of our favorite mid-size museums, the 1-1/2 hour drive from our home in Pennsylvania is worth it, if for no other reason than to catch the daily 2pm talk and live demonstration of a few of the antique music boxes and automatons. The Guinness collection has over 700 of them, many of which are on permanent display. Plus, there's so much more...and fun things for kids to see and doo too, so take the family.

Great local museum. Extensive collection on music boxes. A local gem! Lots of hands on stuff for kids. Train exhibit is impressive. Good for enthusiasts. Onsite parking! Have rotating special events and exhibits. Worth going for them. Friendly and welcoming staff! Plan to spend 60-90 minutes.

This is a really nice museum but the staff made us uncomfortable. We were the only people in the museum about an hour before closing. The gift shop person stared at us without returning our greeting and then the staff followed us around upstairs. It was very unusual. If we were breaking some rule I would have rather be told so we could correct, as opposed to followed. The museum itself was interesting and had a charming exhibit on automatons, thought provoking work by BIPOC artists and a retro and nostalgic permanent exhibit on trains. They are under construction, but I’m not sure we’ll be back to see it because we did not feel welcomed.

Attention, music lovers! A visit to the museum to see the Guinness collection of the 150 mechanical musical instruments should be on your bucket list. Don’t miss the excellent 2:00 pm guided tour and demonstration.

I enjoyed the Morris Museum. I especially liked the special exhibits om Jon Eric Riis, Dissonance and the Mechanical horse. The model train was also interesting. The permanent exhibits on American Indians, Dinosaurs and Rock and Minerals were great, as well.

The museum is beautiful, it’s a beautiful space to rent for any event. However, some of the staff is arrogant and dishonest. There is no such thing as a wedding coordinator, do not let them rope you into thinking so, also make sure that the person whom is aiding in hosting your event with you actually understands their job and it’s not their FIRST time doing an event. Our wedding was like any other wedding day, with all of the unplanned chaos that comes into play. What is a wedding coordinators job? From my understanding it’s to ensure that everything is running smoothly while the bride and groom get themselves ready, ensure that all of the decor is well placed according to the written map that’s provided by the museum events team, ensure that guests make their way to the reception space awaiting the newlyweds. Had we known the entire truth from the beginning ( that there is no such thing as a wedding coordinator at the museum even though that’s how one of that staff members presented herself to us ) we would have still chosen the museum but would have hired an actual coordinator. Connie Reed is the NASTIEST director / manager i have ever spoken to, the arrogance of her attitude is astounding. When your staff isn’t truthful in their title representation of your business, and pay a great deal of money for a service and event space, how do you turn around and make it the customers fault and basically call them liars when there are many witnesses to what happened / what was said. Ask tons of questions and repeat them, so you may never experience what we did.

the museum, the staff and the building itself is great. the issue is that the collection is not vast. Unless you are really interested in music boxes or automation toys, there is not much else to see. Really small kids will enjoy the toy trains and the spark lab but overall you can give this museum a pass.

I went to the Morris Museum with my mom and young daughter. We went on a Saturday afternoon. It was nice because it was not crowded at all with Covid now. There was plenty to see without it being too much. We liked the model trains. I got a library museum pass. We will be back.

This is a wonderful museum. It has a little bit of every type of art: virtual, mechanical, painting, sculpture, and even environmental. Each special exhibit, as well as the permanent collection, was a joy to walk through. The setting of the museum in a historical mansion was lovely. Nice grounds also, with picnic tables. Great place to take kids. Ours enjoyed it very much. There are hands-on activities and interaction with the exhibits that held their interest. They especially liked the model trains and the dinosaur exhibits. For an extra fee there is a STEM room for kids - we will do that during our next visit when we have more time. The kids in that area looked like they were having lots of fun. We only had a couple of hours to spend at the museum but it was a very worthwhile visit. They have a nice gift shop with a wide variety of reasonably-priced items. There is no restaurant but the gift shop sells some snacks and drinks. The local area has great restaurants so keep that in mind if you are looking to spend the day.

Our visit came with complementary access to the spark lab. It was age appropriate for our toddler. We were accompanied with another family with similar age kids. The spark lab is a hit not just among kids but among adults as well. Shout out to BASF for sponsoring the lab! The mesum exhibits kept all of us engaged. We liked the floral arrangements encapsulated in glass and the music section. The music section had kids activities as well!

Fun place! Went here all the time as a kid because my Mom didn't want to drive into the city. XD Super fun and educational. Plus they have showings by local artists there from time to time. Live reptiles too! And a giant plasma ball and small railroad that will entertain your kids for however long you're there.

Wonderful building with lots of potential. The main exhibition was dated and a lot of the displays had broken pieces. There are two good exhibits however the main exhibit space had a mix of HS art as well as random mediums. It didn't jibe well together. This is a beautiful space with music on the terrace for the summer evenings.

Small museum. The main attraction is the large collection of automatons and music players. (Perhaps one of the largest collections like this anywhere!) If you visit this museum, make sure you are there at 2pm when they do a demonstration of these mechanical devices every day. Other than this collection, I did not find the rest of the museum that interesting. There are some fossils upstairs which are neat though.

Great museum! Fantastic staffing made the entire experience. The individual at the front desk helped informed me about the Spark Lab experience and my son LOVED it. Thank you to front desk employee, she was great!!

I've never seen another collection of automatons and self playing instruments in my life- but I can only assume this is a world class collection of automatons and self playing instruments. The whole museum is very well curated, flows very well, and just the right size to see just about everything.

Great place to visit with family. It's small so kids do not get tired or bored, it has great art exhibitions for adults to enjoy and model railroad + dinosaurs for kids.

Pleasantly surprised by the breadth of the automatic musical instrument collection as well as the mechanical toys. Attendant was very helpful, and put some of the orchestrions through their paces for me. Very interesting. Definitely worth a visit.
