Great Museum and easy to get to, also parking is close by. We went there on March 20th. We were in the lower level when a mother and her young son came in. She said he had been there before and couldn't wait to come back, but this would be her first time. Imagine our surprise when the kid asked his mother to go Home, after seeing a black couple in the Museum. They were only there for 10 minutes. 🤣. Shame on you for teaching a 5 yr old about Hate.😝

This is a neat museum that showcases life in New Jersey around the time of its founding. The artifacts on display begin to come to life as you read through the accompanying descriptions. The entire museum can be visited in under an hour and finding street parking within its vicinity was not a problem. There is a small admission fee (no need to make a reservation, at least during our visit) and everyone inside is required to wear a mask. The museum building looks like a church from the outside, but was actually the first public library in town and was never a house of worship. The interior is beautifully decorated and looks remarkably well preserved.

Great little museum! We went there as we were new to the area and keen to explore. It was a lovely little museum in a beautiful building! The information was informative and interesting. It was also in a great spot to explore the Main Street of Madison and it’s many restaurants and shops. I’d definitely recommend a visit if you have an hour or so!

It is a beautiful building which previously was a library donated by Daniel Willis James a millionaire of the Gilded Age of Madison. It was converted to a Museum focused on early trade. You learn about life of the farmer and their methods of preserving food for the winter. See bellows and tools of the blacksmith. Beautiful Cabinet making chest and various tools mounted on the wall for making a cabinet. If you are wondering how leather boots were made or how the leather was formed around wooden model forms, this exhibit was fascinating. In general a very educational few hours to learn about how things were created in the early 18th- 19th century. You will love the interior of the museum with vaulted ceilings and iron work.

A small but mighty museum that focuses on the people who literally built New Jersey, the skilled trades & crafts people. When you are surrounded by so many political historical sites & museums, this is a breath of fresh air to shift your thoughts to the real, everyday Americans. They also constantly ask the questions that make you think, "Are there ways that *I* do things that make a difference to the community around me?" The information is presented so beautifully that one could walk through and not even notice the stunning 1899 building. This was a library?! Wow! You just need to go experience it yourself.

Amazing place in Madison NJ! Must see! Building itself is piece of art. Exhibits are very interesting and educational not only for kids but for adults too. A lot of exhibits are hands on. Staff is wonderful! So pleasant and helpful. I don't recall such a good trade collection even in New York museums. Worth to spend money on admission.

Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. The children loved our visit. The tour did not include the full facility. There is not enough bathroom facilities for large groups.

Beautiful building with a very small exhibit area so there is not much to see. It only took 20 minutes to look at everything closely.
