Try the classic patacon and wash it down with a papelón con limón. Bonus: the tres leches cake was made fresh in house that morning...best I've ever had.

We dined in yesterday, 10/30/2022 & our server was Franco. Lovely place. Franco was super nice and friendly. The food was absolutely fantastic! The mini arepas, empanadas and the patacon sandwich were perfect. Looking forward to go again. Thanks ❤️

I saw this place on GrubHub and decided to give them a try. The mini Arepas was definitely a miniature size but I do like the sampler, you can choose your own 4. The rice had a nice garlic taste which I enjoyed. I will be back to try other menu items. This place looks and feels very cozy inside. Update soon

I eat strictly gluten free due to Celiac. Our friendly server told me what items are safe. They have a dedicated fryer, and all my food papers had a GF sticker. The food is absolutely delicious, and I can't wait to go back.

Very very expensive. I felt robbed. The food is tasty but a simple cachapta (small) starts at $14. I had one with pork and it was $18. The picture shows about $50 worth of food! Ridiculous. It also didn't help that it took 45 minutes to prepare it. It was busy but not full. No excuse. I will never go back. I'll stick to getting Venezuelan food in NYC, especially is Queens where the prices are more reasonable and the portions are much bigger.

Such a good place. First, the food is authentic Venezuelan flavor. Customer service was welcoming and friendly. The owners were friendly. My husband and I order arepa, cachapa, chicha, tres leches cake, and corn cake, and everything tastes delicious. The food was available in 15-20 minutes. If you are near, this is a must-have spot.

Absoluetly delicious. Have been to this restaurant twice now and we love it. Fun vibe, in a cute little downtown. Friendly service and great food.

Small Venezuelan place with decent staff. The server forgot a couple things in the togo order portion, but i cant really blame him cause them cause the server seemed to be the only one there. Nothing major just a drink (which i had gone back for) and the dipping sauce for the churros (didnt realize till i got home). Other than that, super attentive. Food was pretty good, only gripe was the Pernil was a little salty and it was dry. Pricing is a little high, but not like astronomically insane. Chalk that up to the economy I guess. Overall, good experience. Quiet and great environment for a first date or to catch up with someone. Edit: on that togo order, I ordered a Cachapas with pernil and raw red onion and jalapenos, they didn't put the pernil.

Went here last night for the first time. The place is a little small inside, but didn’t feel over crowded. The service was excellent, and the food was delicious. Definitely want to come back!

The tequeños were good a bit small for the price, in my opinion The empanadas were too "dulce" for my liking The cachapa was very good. It tasted as if they used fresh corn. Also, the nata was delicious

Nice and cool inside, great for the summer weather. I loved the “papelon con limón” very refreshing. I had a big arepa filled with meat, avocado and a generous amount of cheese. Delicious! But I kid you not! I fell in love with the “plátanos maduros with cheese” oh my god!! ❤️

I'm from Venezuela and it's difficult to find Venezuelan cuisine near me! I just found out about Merey from a friend, and I really liked their food! The atmosphere is nice with our typical musica llanera 🇻🇪♥️

We've driven by numerous times, but some some reason we never noticed the restaurant. Our loss. But our gain was finding Merey when looking for a place to have dinner. Dinner was excellent. Service was friendly, informative, and efficient. We're definitely looking forward to coming back.

Love this place so much. Friendly staff, great food, amazing attention to detail. I've ordered here numerous times and it's been great every time. It can be hard finding food I can eat and I'm glad I'm able to trust them for some fantastic food!

The chicha, though maybe traditional, was way too thick for me. My main dish (braised beef) was cold and was OK flavor wise. Portion was small for the price. Nice ambiance and decent service.

A wonderful, cozy restaurant with friendly service. Lots of vegetarian options. I had the llovizma arepa and tres leches for dessert. Delicious!

The food is crazy good at Merey! The empanadas and arepas were not too greasy and they were both filled. We also got churros and Tres leches for dessert and they were to die for. The churros had chocolate and condensed milk for dipping (which was amazing) and the tres leches was so sweet. The place is nice and cozy and great for any occasion. The next time I go, Im looking forward to getting some yuca fries.

Went there for the first time on my daughter's birthday. We knew next to nothing about venezuelan cuisine, although we are from Brasil. We were impressed, the food was amazing, the waitress was kind and the place is so inviting. Can't wait to go again.

We love the staff. We love the food. We love the drinks. The place is small but it’s clear they are using their limited space in thoughtful ways. They stand as an example of a new place on the HP strip doing it right.

Yuuuuuum! I had an arepa, which they made vegan for me, and it was amazing! Very friendly and helpful staff 👌🏾

Merey has to be one of my favorite restaurants in all of Highland Park and a constant go-to for me and my partner. We order take-out from them at least a few times a month. Food is always excellent and fresh, portions are generous, and they're always consistent with the quality and packaging. Their chicken empanadas and green sauce is something I crave on a weekly basis. The pabellon is one of my favorites and a dish we order every time -- their plantains are cooked perfectly, the beans are well-seasoned, and the beef is so, so, so, so so good. The owners are also the sweetest people ever. I'd give this place ten stars if I could.

A great restaurant for trying Venezuelan Cuisine. Decent place for dine in with a lot of vegetarian options. The owner/staff were great. Suggested me options, and were considerate to accommodate requests. I ordered Queso Empanada (The covering is made out of Cornmeal), caroni patacone (sweet plantains on side and a garlic sauce) and Chicha (Sweet drink made out of rice topped with condensed milk and cinnamon powder and is really thick). Everything is quite heavy and I couldn’t eat more than half of what I ordered (food was not wasted though). Empanada was piping hot and should be enjoyed right there. Patacone was really nice and even though they serve fork and knife, the owner recommends having it like a burger.
