Just 2.5 miles from downtown Freehold off Rt. 33, it was here where the largest field artillery duel of the American Revolutionary War took place, and the British army took a major setback. Growing up in Freehold, I have visited the park numerous times, including the annual reenactments which not surprisingly marked an undeletable part of my childhood memory. I stopped by here for a nice stroll after a good meal when I visited my parents recently. The statue of General Von Steuben is new, and I didn't remember the small playground. But the park was still as serene and peaceful as I remembered. There is a nice short 3/4 mile loop trail that passes through the visitor center and the area that overlooks the battlefield. There are other longer trails which I used to bike on, but I'd say the loop is more of the highlight. The visitor center is well kept, and the restroom is current and clean. The staff was very friendly. Opens at 9 am.

Amazing displays. This was my last American Revolutionary War site to visit. Well planned out. Great paths. If you go in the summer, bring plenty of water. No shade on the trails.

It is amazing to me all of the cool parks and historical places in NJ. This was my first time here. A really nice visitor’s center with a movie that explains the battle that happened here. The grounds are well maintained, there is a ton of parking and all different trails that you can take. There are also picnic benches. A nice place to spend an afternoon.

From a hikers perspective it's possible to get a 5 mile walk by combining several small trails. On the battlefield there are markers explaining the battlefield. In non-covid times, the visitor center has a great movie that is worth seeing. Nice bathrooms. Check out the near by Battlefield Ground Orchard for delicious apples, homemade apple cider, and fresh apple cider doughnuts. Also it's very close to the Freehold Raceway Mall.

Visitor center was informative. Especially liked the Patriot's uniform in comparison with the British uniform. Liked walking around Tennent Church and the surrounding cemetery with its marked Revolutionary War graves. So glad the State has preserved this historic place.

A most wonderful way to spend Father's Day Weekend!! I typically only say good things about people, places and things or I do not share my story. But I have a suggestion for F.O.M.B. It is~ to limit the commentary from the historian on the microphone during the Big Battle. The gentleman was much too loud, long winded, and took away from the experience of hearing the sounds of old cannon fire and the brigade speaking. That part essentially is missed. There was a lull in the voice on loudspeaker and it was cherished. I expressed this grievance to some reanactors and they agreed with me. They can not hear each other. They also miss just the sounds of what they are doing. Thank you for your time. Can't wait for 250 year anniversary!! Truly~ Lori

An interesting piece of American Revolutionary War history! The Battle of Monmouth (or Battle of Monmouth Court House) was fought on this site in the colony of New Jersey on June 28, 1778. The Continental Army, commanded by General George Washington, faced off against the British commanded by General Charles Lord Cornwallis. The battle inflicted heavy casualties on both sides, but more through heat exhaustion than combat. In the end the battle was inconclusive with the British slipping away to reach New York City without further harassment from the Continental Army. The countryside at the battlefield is beautiful and the displays are interesting nonetheless.

I don't want to write to many details and have this park end up over populated. But hands down biggest and most beautiful park I've ever been to in nj. Playground, lake, benches, walking trails, grills, picnic fields.

Lots of rich Revolutionary War history to be experienced here. There are paved trails near the visitor center. There are clean bathrooms, but the hours are limited. The museum has finally reopened with limited hours. Plenty of benches and picnic tables, so people have parties and barbecues here. The unpaved trails are great because they have a little bit of elevation change (I mean, this IS the coastal plain). However, it took me a while to learn how the wooded trails all connect. This park offers my best workout close to home. I trained here for hiking the Grand Canyon (the hill behind the visitor center gets my heart pumping). People sled down this hill in winter.

What a cool annual reenactment of the Battle of Monmouth! The event was highly informative on what went on in the battle. Found the Doctor tent the most interesting.

Beautiful park with great landscape views... There's also a small museum about the American Revolutionary War Battle of Monmouth, which you'll enjoy regardless if you're into history or not. Recommend during fall 👌

I didn't get in time to watch the reenactment (hence the 3 stars), but I got to see a few of the people in costumes, the horses, some "soldiers" willing to answer your questions about the Monmouth battle (if you have any) or to give you some info about it

A lot of information presented in a great way. Motivated us to drive around to see the rest of the battlefield points.

What an amazing place!! Kids enjoyed a lot. Lots of place to walk and picnic 🧺. No rush so good place during covid time. Historic place is very good and kids learned a lot.

Always a great experience for the family! Experiencing the reenactment of the Battle of Monmouth is a must! It is held once a year in June.

The hidden gem not to be missed in this park is the nice, well-maintained visitor center. The 10-min movie they showed in the auditorium was quite interesting. We did not know about the battle of Monmouth, and now we understand how it has become a turning point in American revolutionary war 🤓👍💪

Great place to walk around and learn some history. If the museum is open I highly recommend strolling through, we watched a 10 minute movie about the history.

Beautiful park!! Great afternoon walking around and learning!! I will be back to take a tour and see the inside of the museum, as I didn't realize these were offered so I didn't plan accordingly!

Went hiking here on our week off. I haven't been here in ages if forgotten how massive this park is. We brought our 2 dogs to enjoy the lovely fall weather. We hiked for about 2-3 hours over a bridge and through some corn fields. Great place for hiking or biking to enjoy nature. This could definitely been a while day hike. Slight hills but overall, mostly flat. On the 3rd weekend of June, they do a revolutionary was reenactment which I'm hoping to catch next year. There is also a visitors center with a museum inside.

Hidden gem. This state park has a very nice and informative visitor's center. Not sure why they don't want photos taken inside but it's very new and very clear. The film is also great and has an amazing segue from explaining the historical battle to the current location and view of the park.
