This place is great! All three floors were open to walk around in. The rangers are all super helpful and I feel like I learned a lot about Edison. Although you can’t go in the house, you can walk around the outside. Edison’s grave is there as well as some deer. The whole place is awesome and a nice change from the abysmal New Jersey turnpike. I would love to return once the park fixes the machinery inside. (The ranger said it works, just needs a bit of refurbishment).

They say that “A visit to a museum is a search for beauty, truth, and meaning in our lives. Go to museums as often as you can”. The entrance fee is $15. Add this to your schedule when you plan to visit in NJ. I enjoyed the place , staff are very friendly. I think locals should support this kind of establishment to keep it running so that we can have someting to share to our future generation. Schools should start campaign to visit all locals museum to have a better appreciation of how things done before and to honor people who shared their life so we can enjoy our time now.

This is a very nice national landmark. It provides a complete look at Edison’s genius and how the scientists actually worked, made prototypes, tested, it’s a comprehensive look at not only Edison but also that time in history. The rangers were friendly and helpful, the location is easy to wander around. Be sure to visit Edison’s house, the grounds are nice and quiet.

I am giving this place a 1 star rating because of the rude old caucasian guy who unfortunately is even a Park Ranger. If you are reading this you know who you are. Me and my cousin were so excited to finally come here so we can tick it off of our National Parks lists. We collect passport stamps as well as a souvenir from all of our visits. This unbelievably rude park ranger walked up to me and took the Junior Ranger stamp and said “this is a Junior Ranger stamp, when you become a Junior Ranger you can use it”. I was left speechless by this callous display of attitude, from a Ranger no less. He didn’t even asked if i was getting it for my kid or a niece/nephew. He saw 2 non-white women and decided hey they’re not kids they can’t get this stamp. What a petty thing to do! Philadelphia had 11 stamps tucked away in 1 corner and you were free to stamp away, same with the Boston sites and the PNW ones. They had 2 and this old guy seems to be guarding them with his life. We have gone to 25+ National Parks and this is the first time a Park Ranger has been rude to us ever! He ruined our entire visit because of his bad attitude right at the beginning of our visit. We will never go back here again and would not suggest to family and friends to come either. Maybe it’s time you retired, you don’t seem to be happy with your job anymore. You are in the business of customer service and your attitude is garbage. This place charges entrance fees and we even have the annual pass which means we are legit National Parks Travellers. You seem to have forgotten that your salary relies on the visitors who come and yet you decide to be rude to.

What a great historical park! The Thomas Edison National Historical Park is divided into two different parts at two different locations. The first park is Edison's "invention factory" at Menlo Park. Here you can see the places that Edison and his employees worked to develop some of the greatest inventions in all of history. The main factory building contains a library that Edison used for research, a music room that Edison worked to develop the phonograph in, a drawing room, and a film room (kinetograph). The factory work floors showcase many of Edison's inventions. Machines that Edison and his employees used are left fully intact for all to see. Mostly everything presented are historic originals. Across the way from the main factory building is the Chemistry Lab where Edison worked with employees. Again, original equipment is left fully intact in this lab. It was here that Edison created the practical storage battery. Finally, the main campus contains the Visitor Center with a gift shop. You can also watch a film about Edison in this part of the park. Park rangers and volunteers were friendly and helpful. The second part of the park is Edison's house called Glenmont. To go to Glenmont you should reserve a ticket ahead of time through the park website. You will have to drive into a neighborhood a little less than a mile away from the Menlo Park laboratory. The house is a spectacular Gilded Age mansion where Edison, his second wife, and kids lived. The house is located in the first planned community in the US. Although a different owner built the house under suspicious circumstances Edison bought the house and expanded it. All decorations and furniture are original to the house. Perhaps, the house library is most interesting in that none of the books in the house were ever even opened or used. Edison's garage is one of a kind featuring not only a Model T, but some early electric cars from the 1900's. A greenhouse is also on the property. In the back of the house is where Edison and his wife are buried. Make sure to go to both places if visiting the park. It is hard to find a better museum of historical importance anywhere.

Awesome but small. I really enjoyed walking thru and exploring the factory grounds. However, it's about a 2 hour tour if you take your time and read most signs. It was amazing to see how things were set up from when it was operational. The staff was friendly and professional. Overall, I think It's worth the drive. The only downside is the mansion is generally closed, but you can make reservations to see it. Otherwise, you can only walk around it and you can't even see inside. It's surrounded by private homes and you must get a pass to go in from the factory where you pay for admission.

I thought Edison was an dude that is did his inventing out of a garage, but this dude had a huge factory with tons of employees. We hit up a lot of National Parks because we do the Passport stamps and this was a welcome change from all the battle fields we see. You will be amazed, make the stop if you can.

Alright... honestly one of the coolest places I have visited ... just being in the same lab that Edison worked in and came up with over 2,332 patents. Thomas Edison was one America’s greatest inventors... and he needs to always be remembered millennials ... you wouldn’t have those gadgets without him.. Seriously feeling grateful for you giving us ability to have 💡 and watch 📽.... The Lab - 20,000 ft of exhibit and 2 floors of laboratories and big plus “self guided” . The house - is massive and worth every min of the hour tour. It’s first come first serve ! Side “Fun Fact” if you have time go check out Mrs. Edison’s greenhouse next to the home .. some of the plants were born over time from the original plants in the home . Guides are walking around ask them questions some of them even knew the Edison family and you can get some fascinating stories $15 pp... seniors get special deals and if you have the America the Beautiful - National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass ... well best add this place to your places to visit :)

This National Historical Park showcases Edison's work. I knew Edison was an inventor, but thought he mainly did light bulb and electricity. I didn't know he was into movies, music and all sorts of other things. There are two parts to this park, the homestead of where he lived, and the lab, where his company invented stuff. The lab is multiple floors, with machinery, and a library. This is where he and his employees worked to invent and perfect the inventions. Very interesting to see the types of machines and tools used. There is a small visitor center with a few exhibits and several videos covering different topics, including some of the early films he produced. This is well worth the visit and spend a couple of hours.

Local park, pretty well maintained, though the sidewalks desperately need to be repaired. Right next to West Orange high school, makes it convenient with ample parking. Small recreation center attached that can be rented for events and parties.

I just moved to West Orange and this is just a few blocks away from me. This place is fantastic and informative! So many incredible artifacts and everything is nearly exactly as Edison left it. What a fascinating, self-made man! Make sure to see all the presentations and get tickets to visit his home. Les Williams is an amazing guide at the park - incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about Edison, and a wonderful storyteller! Your receipt is good for 7 days, so if you have the time, you can spread the experience out. I definitely recommend it to both tourists and locals!

Absolutely fascinating. It's hard to comprehend just how much stuff Edison and Co. invented until you walk through the collection. If you're the kind of person who likes to breeze through a museum, you might not be here long, but if you want to take it slow and drink in every little bit, expect to spend a couple hours to take everything in.

This National Park is the site of quite a few of Edison's actual workshops. The buildings are very well preserved and give the visitor a sense of the creativity that came from the mind of one of America's most prolific inventors and businessmen. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, and the large multi-story warehouse serves as both time capsule and museum. From his workshop and laboratory, Edison could build just about anything his mind could dream up! Be sure to check out the replica of the Black Maria, an early movie studio that rotated to capture the light of the sun, as well as footage of some of the first movies ever made.

The day we went they were closed for renovation. We were there around 3:00 and it should have been open till 4:00 but they were painting and very busy inside. So we walked along the outside and took some pictures from there.

This is a great historic site that everyone should see, because it shows the technology that led to the current technology. We had. Especially younger generations should see this. Fans of history will like knowing more about Edison as a person and how business in general was conducted and the history of the different makers of his era. Highlight for me was seeing his office which was really a library/ inspiration room and showpiece for potential clients. But in the upstairs you can see a chronological history of the phonograph. And you could definitely spend the whole day here and possibly 2 days. But we only had a couple hours.

Great little detour to explore the labs and library of Edison! We watched the intro movie at the visitor center and walked the 3 floors of the labs. My highlight was on the 3rd floor seeing the first real recording studio, and the collection of unique phonographs. The Rangers were super friendly (as always). Don't forget to get your NPS Passport stamps for the Laboratory and Glenmont Estate!

Super cool place to visit even if you can't get advanced reservations for his house it is still great to do the laboratory complex tour (self guided). Definitely would recommend the junior ranger programs that the national park sites have to as a great way for the kids or anyone to learn about the park while earning the awesome badge that they have.

This museum is the remaining part of Edison's R&D campus that once hired 10,000 people. The main building has various machineries, tools, lab structures, and Edison's study with a movie screen. All are well preserved. Ticket includes visit to his home in a wealthy neighborhood nearby. Going here helps me understand much more about Edison as a person. He was not exactly a scientist, he liked to run experiments to find a better way of doing things, better but not completely new. For example he was not the first to invent a light bulb, he just made it last longer. And he made sure his inventions were practical i.e. profitable. Edison knew science but also had business acumen. He recruited top intellectuals to his team, even took the credit of his partners, and engaged in public defamation with his competitors. Anything was for his business. He was probably closer to Elon Musk today, with a little less crazy. Overall I think the museum is OK. I wished they held in-person tours. I found the staff very knowledgeable and I enjoyed interactions among staff and other guests more than listening to the app. I hope they could also install some sort of digital demonstration of Edison's inventions.

We easily could have spent at least another hour or so here (after 2 hours) but we had tickets to tour Glenmont and then an 8 hour drive home. So informative and awe inspiring to be surrounded by items you know Edison personally created, touched, and valued. We learned an amazing amount we didn't know.

Thomas Edison Museum has done a fantastic job to preserve the work of Thomas Edison in mint condition in order. You will definitely enjoy to see how much technology evolved from the pioneer who started the tech revolution of the modern world.

One of the best museums I've been to! Everything is original and authentic, including Edison's 3-floor library with work desk and it's untouched contents. You can hear a playing of an old phonograph and see the original one that Edison made his first recording of "Mary Had a Little Lamb."

Fantastic place to learn more about Edison and so much more. Park staff are exceptional and incredibly knowledgeable on all things "Edison". A visit to this small but wondrous Park will not disappoint!

This place was an amazing to see many old things and build in 1887 to 1931 when he died. I researched google about Thomas. He was one ear deaf. I thanks him for investor a bulb 💡 lights better than candle 🕯️ back then. I strongly recommend go for it. Parking across street for free. Admission free because I am disability.

I had a chance to meet with the Archivists Leonard DeGraaf and Valerie Shoffner and share photos from Pahrump, Nevada. On my visit to the Pahrump Valley Historical Museum, I saw two of Thomas Edison's Victrolas. I also gave Leonard the business card of Ms. Davis, Director of the Pahrump Museum. It was great to see Edison artifacts on display so far away from home. Ms. Charlene D Shariff .

Stopped here to pick up park passes and national park passports for a future trip. Ended up spending about 2 hours exploring. The facility is well maintained and staff very educated. I had no idea how many inventions Edison created including an electric car over 100 years ago.
