We had an amazing meal at the Roaming Bison that we will not soon forget! Since we are huge fans of BBQ we didn’t want to get our expectations too high, but their food blew us out of the water! Every meat was cooked to perfection, the sauces were unique, and there were a multitude of delicious sides to choose from. The owner and chef came out to ask us how everything was and when he found out it was our first time there he took the time to tell us about his process, inspiration, and journey to making some of the best BBQ I’ve ever had! We can’t wait to return!!!!

OMG, heavenly is all I can say!!! Please, if you have not been- GO NOW!!!! Everything we had was amazing- the smoked wings, the brisket sliders and the Mac & cheese and, let's not forget the awesome CUSTOMER SERVICE! I felt like the president with how we we're greeted and informed about the menu as first time patrons. We will definitely add this spot as a must go at least 1x a month for sure!!

This is the second meal I have had here. The first was the BBQ platter it was amazing. This was cat fish done chefs choice. Exceptional! Perfect meal to end a very trying week!! 10 out of 10 would recommend. Check them out you won't be disappointed..

We are tourists and we were searching for a good barbecue place. The reviews are true! We had the Pitmaster Platter with additional pulled pork to try all the meat they serve, it was enough for the both of us. AND to need a box for the leftovers - and I eat a lot! All the meat is very tasty and has a good and strong smokey note. The ribs were falling of the bone😋 The corncake is made freshly and so good. The cucumber salad is simple but very tasty. Also the other sides we had were amazing - with the platter you get 4 sides total. The waiter was really sweet, was a great help in choosing the sauces and often checked up on us to make sure we had a good time. If I was from the area I would add this place to my regular restaurant routine!

Very nice atmosphere with a great selection of Bourbons. The owner is very friendly and has great customer service. Come here if you’re looking to unwind over some cocktails and nice conversation. Then you meet the owner, Greg, and learn everything you want to know about bourbon, rye, and whiskey - allowing him to find you a drink you personally love out of the huge selection available. Roaming Bison is a rare gem in a city who seems to care more about a quick profit than sticking with providing what they do best to and proving their worth to every patron through the door.

Extremely happy to write this review because of the great experience we had here, and for what this owner / restaurant is doing for the community. Looking from the outside as you drive through the neighborhood it is easy to assume that you are driving past another shady dive bar, and to proceed with your night without giving a second off further thought to stop in. You could not be more wrong. We dined here Friday evening, and couldn’t be more pleased with our decision. We read the reviews online and looked at the photos and decided to give it a try in the name of good local BBQ, and we found a new top 10 restaurant experience to put on our list. Stepping through the door you instantly scan the room and take in the space; the warm greeting from the staff, the one hundred plus bourbons around the room, and the hours of work with the woodworking from floor to ceiling. We felt like we were welcome friends who had dined here hundreds of times even though we had never been here before. We took a few minutes to go over the extensive drink menu, and once we settled on two good options we set to trying to make up our minds on which homemade BBQ we would try out. The waitress Heather made some suggestions, and we ultimately opted for a brisket dinner, and a smoked and loaded bologna sandwich. It is safe to say neither disappointed, and both were eaten almost as fast as they appeared. As a self proclaimed BBQ enthusiast, I ordered my brisket with sauce on the side so I could take in the smoke and wood flavors from the cooking process. This was genuine hand smoked meat, low and slow, pink smoke ring and peppery bark exterior- big thumbs up. During our meal the owner came over to introduce himself, and tell us his story- you could hear in his voice the passion he has for his craft, and for fine bourbons. It was wonderful to hear how he prepares the meats, and some stories on how he curated the selection of bourbons that were available. Ultimately we left after a much longer stay than we planned- filled with good food, tasty bourbon, and a new favorite spot to see a new friend that shares a passion for bbq and bourbon, but most importantly vision. At any point along the way corners could have been cut with the renovations inside, the menu, the bar, but he chose not to. He chose to open in a neighborhood that most people extract money from with poorly run businesses and predatory practices. He chose to open a quality restaurant, invest in the neighborhood and share his passions. A big hat tip to that; we will be back many times, with more people to support you.

Loved the smoked wings and hand cut fries 🍟. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. If you are a bourbon fan, don't waste your time anywhere else. This is Valhalla - enjoy 😉

I have a favorite booth in back and the food is great. The front of the house has a different atmosphere but the back is nice for a great place to chill with stellar eats.

The food at Roaming Bison is amazing. Greg smokes his own meats and puts care and creativity into each dish. The gumbo on Thursdays is a revelation and is a must try. Greg and the crew are down to earth, friendly, and ready to give a suggestion if needed. If you're into bourbon, the selection here will make you drool. Stop in for a drink or a meal, you won't regret it.

The food was just so disappointing. The wings were very over cooked.the Mac and cheese was very blan. We didn't even end up eating our meals l bye bye 30 dollars......

Not only is it some of the best barbecue I've ever had, but the folks in general atmosphere were what you want in a local joint. Bourbon knowledge is off the charts too, it was great to just ease drop and learn a ton. 12/10, probably going to make it a weekly event.

Really flavorful bbq (I got a pork sandwich with tots), which I was amazed by because I went for the bar part with the giant wall of all different types of bourbon (they also have restaurant side). The owner was there and was very friendly and just had a great depth of knowledge, and helped me get to something I really enjoyed. And the regulars were friendly as well! I was just passing time before a nearby movie, but I'll definitely be back.

If you're a Bourbon person this is for you! The price for a pour is very reasonable. Had all of the Pappys, EH Taylor, orphan barrel and 40 other bottles. Did not eat there this time but will go back to try the bbq

Great friendly, knowledgeable service! The fellow behind the bar knew much more about whiskey than I do, and I consider myself an enthusiastic drinker of the brown. We got the sampler platter and split it 3 ways. Even the collared greens were fantastic! Highly recommended. Casual atmosphere.

Greg's food is amazingly good, and he is always fun to talk to. They have a great bourbon selection.

We went in one night for the first time. It was a slow night so we thought maybe the food wasn't so good. Man, were we wrong! This place blew us away! Tender meat and flavorful sides! The owner is the bomb too! We'll definitely be back!

Absolutely a hidden gem for the City of Good Neighbors. The food was phenomenal and the Bourbon selection is on point. Greg the Owner was very hospitable and nice enough to come around and chat for awhile. I would highly recommend visiting if you’re in the area.

I took my Dad there. It was formerly called Nortel's. We used to go there for fish when we were kids. I thought my Dad would get a kick out of the changes. He loved it and really loved the ribs and the Bourbon selection that they made for him!

Great experience from start to finish. Called ahead to see if they could accommodate my large party and the gentleman was super friendly. Arrived an hour later and his attitude was just as great and friendly. Greeted us with a smile when he was in the middle of working at the bar. Looks like he is juggling a lot but you could never tell by his attitude. Very reasonable prices and a very pleasant experience.

The barbecue here is one of the best I've had in Buffalo, the drinks are great and staff is friendly, the sides I would say are the only thing that need tweaking like adding some honey to the corn cake or some garlic to the Mac n cheese but overall definitely want to come back and would recommend.

Food and service are exceptional! We ordered blueberry barbecue smoked wings, corn bread, greens and brisket… All of which were nothing short of phenomenal. Our server was very attentive and was thrilled, overall. Highly recommend.

What a wonderful find this place was! I was visiting the area, and my Uber driver recommended it so I gave it a shot. Truthfully I was skeptical at first. Boy was I pleasantly surprised! Super friendly. Very helpful and engaging proprietor. Generous pours. Best selection of Bourbon anywhere. And the BBQ!!! Without a doubt this place has the very best wings I've ever had. Their smoked wings are INCREDIBLE! I HIGHLY recommend visiting this friendly tavern.

This is based off of my first experience, and I can confidently say that I will be back. My experience started off strong with the incredibly friendly service I received over the phone. I wasn’t sure what kind of sauce I wanted on my wings, and I received a great recommendation. The sides are all very good- I recommend the hush puppies, super crispy and well seasoned; the sauce they come with is spicy and delicious. The wings are wonderful. The bar is super cool, and has a really cool menu. I can’t wait to come back!

AWESOME! My family drove an hour to eat here after my husband found this BBQ place online. Not only was the service good, the food was awesome the corn cakes are so good. I had the Cuban. My family tried just about every meat and side on the menu and took some to go. The owner Greg came out to speak to us and was very personable and amicable. Dining room is large, separate from the bar area, and very well decorated and gives a nice atmosphere. A great place for all ages and sizes. 11/10 recommend for a BBQ date night, family outing⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
