Greeted and seated by a very friendly and welcoming Uthnati, who was our server for the evening. The sushi was well prepared and delicious. Uthnati made us feel welcome and made our experience at the restaurant worth while. 🍣🍱

The food is absolutely fantastic, good variety to choose from. Clean restaurant with a nice selection of wine. The staff is very friendly.

Food is very good but dont expect to get it any time soon, depending on the food items of course, but it will probably take a while. It is very worth it in the end as much as it is unpleasant to wait for so long. I recommend the sweet soy pork belly, its delightful.

You are probably scrolling through all these reviews wondering “how bad can it be”. Well the food is 10 times worst than that. Sauces are watered down and tasteless, meat is almost always undercooked. The sushi is questionable. The only remotely edible item is the rice... Staff are always friendly but that’s about where the compliments end. Do not waste your money here.

Sushi was amazing! Freshest fish and they are not shy on the amount of fish in the sushi. Chinese dishes also amazing. The dim sum is not real dim sum, rather it's a bao. Still tasty though. We also had deep fried ice cream, it was totally worth it! Decor and atmosphere are lovely. Will be back.

Food was good, service was prompt and friendly, however the restuarant was quiet to the point of awkwardness. However an overall enjoyable experience, would recomend.

We made use of the smaller part of the restaurant and we found the service very disappointing. Had to ask three times for a lemon to be put in my sider. As we sat by the door All waiters walk close by, but if you try to get their attention, nobody responds immediately. No serviettes. Material serviettes were provided, but I chose new disposable paper serviettes. The food was good, as usual. Maybe we should just avoid the smaller room on the side in future..😥😥

No customer service at all. My daughter wanted sushi today and my son chow mein. We sent them in to buy it while waiting in the car. They came out 20min later and said the power went out. So what happens now? I asked. Is the food coming or not ...it has been 20min and sushi doesn't need electricity. No. Their order has not been taken yet. The lady was on and off the phone the whole time. Didn't give them the time of day...was even reluctant to give them a menu. They asked her what now when the power went out? She literally send them away and said go wait in the car. I couldn't believe my ears. In this day and age???? I wanted to go in and asked what just happened but she was still on the phone. Then we saw a someone come out to take sushi to spargs so just followed him and bought it from Spargs. I'm still in unbelief about the whole situation. We literally waited there for nothing!!! Most disappointing experience.

Not a good experience. The take away customers overflow into the restaurant spoiling the ambiance, especially if there are noisy children. The focus seems to be in take aways so sitting customers suffer with service. Food was indifferent and the place is looking jaded. Please train the Waitrose on customer skills!

Have only done take aways sofar. But every single time ive ordered food it would always be ready on time, aswell as I have always been helped promptly and by a friendly employee.

This has to be THE BEST sushi we have ever tasted! I recommend the Tiger Roll and Shanghai Roll, two new additions to the menu. I honestly don't know how we are going to eat "plain" sushi again! All the way from Joburg.....and we will be back for sure.

They're so busy doing takeaway orders that every time I dine at Shanghai, I've waited an hour or more to get my food. It seems that "takeaway" orders are more important than seated customers. Waiters are missing in action, running around seeing to takeaways. Waiters don't bother to clear table, ask how you're enjoying meal, or top up drinks. I won't go back. Far easier and cheaper to order sushi from Happy Eating in Berea.

Busy and popular restaurant. Lots of convenient parking. Staff appears friendly, professional and smartly dressed. Nice and neat inside. Mind the hidden step to the men's restroom. Missing towels to dry your hands. The Won Ton soup was very salty, tasted of seaweed, and the dumpling could have been more cooked. Beef noodles was tender and tasty but a bit heavy on the salty sauce.

Lovely sushi but we waited a bit long. Service was good with a super friendly waiter but a bit slow and table not cleared with our dirty glasses.

I’m utterly disappointed with the service of your Avo delivery drivers. On one occasion my sushi arrived completely destroyed that it was inedible. On the second occasion my order was late by more than 1 hour. On the most recent occasion your Avo ordering system had no driver to deliver to my area which is utterly disappointing. I never have such problems when ordering with Happy Eating whose deliveries are done on their website by their delivery partner called Delivast. I live quite a distance from Shanghai and it would be nice to get delivery with a reliable partner as I can't order on Mr D or Uber Eats. I want to stay a Shanghai customer but please consider Delivast if you want to help more customers like me especially who live quite far

A nice restaurant with very reasonable prices. With a menu with some images, a greater range in wines, and an improved desert menu, I think that this place would be close to completely ideal.

Sushi was amazing! I also enjoyed the variety of drinks on the menu. I would definitely visit the place again. A bit of spicing up of the decor could upgrade the look of the place. A touch of light dimming, shelving and seating set up would go a long way
