I expected 4 to 5 stars from the review hence I booked here. I’m booked for 9 nights and on arrival the porter sees my boot and asks if I’m going travel to more cites. He basically wanted to know why so much, I got a room next to breakfast and everyone at the pool sees my window. I can’t go out from my sliding window as it’s not Possible. So privacy was not easy for the long stay. The room was so clean because I brought along some cleaning supplies due to covid and my cloths was dirty. The window is so dirty and sticky The bath tub had no plug so we can’t us it at all. Shower really small. Water take long to get hot in the morning. I was considering to ask for any other room but I took time to clean this one so I did not feel like doing it again. First day at breakfast the bread was moulded and I noticed it. My hubby and son was eating already and then they checked it and found the mould they felt a bit off. The pool area does not get cleaned during the day as people sit abs drink on tables in between the day. Maybe it’s festive so staff is low. I staff at breakfast is friendly and respectful.

Nice hotel with friendly staff, good service as well as scrumptious breakfast. The only concern is the tricky entrance that is complicated by the adjacent mall parking etc.

They have improved their stuff,last year we were there end of September 2022,their stuff members were so unprofessional. I ask for orange juice but they said it's finished but when the other guy ask for it from the lady stuff members, she gave it to him. They were alot of unprofessional things that happened last year but I saw an improvement this time around.

The rooms smelled cigarette smoke all over the hotel. The manager Fundisa told us there is nothing they can do, more like telling us you may pack you bags and go which we found quite outrageous. The day manager Sbongile sorted us though. On the positive note, the restaurant staff, Zizipho and her team were very pleasant and helpful.

Great hotel, quiet and comfortable. Easy to get to from the highway as well and nicely located. Very well kept, clean and neat. Staff are friendly and check in and check out was a breeze. There is an outdoor swimming pool and jacuzzi and a small gym as well. The best feature is that the hotel has quick and direct access straight into Hemingways mall which is fantastic and convenient. A lot of restaurant options close by which is fantastic. The generators are also great for load shedding and aircons and TV etc still work. Did not even know the power was off. Had a great time.

Loved it! Having a job which requires you to travel all the time makes one always miss their bed, haven't been enjoying hotel stay since the Covid-19 outbreak until I went to Southern Sun Hemingways. It was a refreshing experience with nice food as well from the restaurants. The staff was amazing too. Cannot wait to come back to East London.

It’s a beautiful building and share areas look great. The general upkeep looks good. But with attention to detail and tighter management it could be a better experience. We needed a place to stay in East London on the spur of the moment, so we called Southern Sun Hemingways. The guy in the phone said they hey have rooms available. When we got there within a he hour, we he lady at check-in said all the rooms were taken. She said they had been booked online between the time we called and when we arrived. Upon further questioning the guy who had taken the call next to her said he has been rooms and he booked us in. The standard room is small. The bed is a double bed. And the room feels small. The flat sheet wasn’t tucked in. And the mattress reminded me of the old school springy beds. It wasn’t the most comfortable sleep. Maybe the other standard rooms are better. Don’t accept 419. They bathroom had a sulphur-like drain smell at times. Luckily it was one night. I did like the save water sign on the mirror. Breakfast wasn’t very organized either. No one to seat you or take your room number. I could imagine people coming for free breakfast.

Friendly, helpful staff on the A/H shift!

It was cool. Very comfy room nice sitting bathroom. Service was good plenty parking. We were only booked in for bed and breakfast but I tell you we had a great breakfast staff friendly cook good food very nice sitting and watching from inside the pool area. Thanks Hemingway for great weekend.

There is humming noise in the rooms and passage ways.. They have no maintenance people after hours to come & sort out the problem. Instead they want to inconvenient you to you move a room with less noise at your sleeping hours. You have to your own earplugs to try to drown out the noise to be able to sleep Reported the bad experience to reception this morning on check out and the lady had a no care attitude as if the humming noise was the norm and guests must just live with it.

Has almost anything you need or want andany establishments available that carry all sorts of stock and the entertainment is diverse, food shops are ripe with choice. Would recommend to anyone visiting East london.

Nice enough but as Casino/hotels go - bleh. Spectacular doest live here. Staff are pleasant, management are hobbled. Leads me to the conclusion that the executive don't permit 'going-the-extra-mile' or use of the staffs' initiative. The call to return is muted.

The rooms were small but comfortable. The bed was great. I particularly liked all the ports that one could plug into the TV.

My stay here was amazing and the service was out of this world.🙌🏽

I had a 3 day stay at the hotel and with a bit more maintenance and attention to detail it could capture the beauty of East London given that it is well located & enjoys breathtaking views. I arrived at night and had quite a few bags so I needed to move from the guest parking to the foyer with ease however this was a struggle because the elevator was not working. To inflate the situation, staff were wheeling empty bag trolleys right past me once I reached the drop off area. Check in was quick and easy, I particularly enjoyed being on the 1st floor which is closer to reception because the door cards deactivate each time there is loadshedding :. Need multiple reactivations. The queen room is spacious, bed and pillows are extremely comfortable and I love that the Wi-Fi is always on! Breakfast was good however on the second day we did not enjoy the omelette, it tasted like the cheese was off. I would recommend their lunch though. The chicken pasta is delicious and the portion is generous. Lastly, restaurant tables are not well kept and it is common to get seated at a table with no cutlery. My overall experience was decent and I would go back but I would not be expecting Boardwalk hotel or Table Bay hotel standards although they’re all southern sun hotels.

Spent one night as i attended a function that evening. While walking around to familiarise myself around management aproached and offered me complimentory tickets to watch a movie to kill time before the function start the evening. The dinner that evening was divine.

I dislike that it's far from the beach, the food was hit and miss - really under-seasoned or over-seasoned. But it has a good vibe. The rooms aren't that impressive.

It's a great place, and the services are up to the standard. The location is good too as there is not too much industrial activity going around.

The rooms are always clean. Staff are very friendly and helpful and the service is good. I experienced maintenance issues for the last 2 times I visited. A broken window hinge which left a gaping gap between the window frame and the wall. A broken door lock which could not be fixed. On both occasions I was moved to other rooms. The breakfasts are always good. The food ordered for room service is not always great though.

Rooms are very nice ,clean and comfortable. Service was very professional and fast,even my wake-up call was exactly on the minute, breakfast was delicious with friendly service and never a NO uttered, the hotel is attached to the mall and that makes dinner and a bit of exploration a fun experience. But not noisy at all. Definitely recommend for a stay in East London.

It's a great experience. The ambiance is very welcoming and charming decor. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Food is pretty good especially for their prices its 100% worth it.

Rates are high R2500 for standard room and the lady at the counter was telling another guest that the standard rate is R1300- R1500 but we got charged R2500+ , definitely not value for money just greed and no care for customer. It’s not value for money - and price is what we complain about in the absence of value: Ten breakfast experience was thee most chaotic I’ve seen. Not well managed at all. COVID-19 regulations too lax and not always adhered to or enforced. People not wearing masks and dishing for themselves talking over food. Lots needs improvement and not value for money

Breakfast was delicious and was impressed with how they serve it considering this challenging time.

Situated right withing a mall/ extends from the mall and is at great proximity to the beach, less than 10 km... The service is great, efficient (room service) and all other external facilities are well maintained (i.e. Gym,...). 👌🏽
