Amazing breakfast spot. Very active staff (ask for Cynthia, she's my friend😊) and delicious filling breakfast. I went for the "Salt breakfast " I think, I loved it.... The whole place is very clean! Their bathrooms even,are squeaky clean! The whole place has a very welcoming vibe about it... They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Also be mindful of the loadshedding times, some meals strictly need electricity to be prepared.

Upon entering I noticed the interior has a nice modern but rustic decor. But there weren't many seats available inside, might be because it was raining so take this with a grain of salt ;) And it seems the establishment caters to alot of work from home people or those needed a nice place with decent internet connection as people tend to sit down for a long time and to work, so it might be a nice place if you need that type of work space. The food was very delicious and the coffee was extraordinary as well. The food I had was a Dunked Southern Fried Chicken and Butterscotch latte. The wait for the food wasn't too long probably around 30 to 20 mins The Dunked Southern Fried Chicken was very crispy had a nice tangy sauce to it, and was complimented by the sweetness from the pineapple. I definitely would recommend going. It's a great place for breakfast or a lunch.

My breakfast was amazing, yho their berry smoothie was 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽and those fries slapped.

This lovely restaurant has a pretty decent location not difficult to find. The atmosphere inside is very cosy and inviting perfect for couples or groups. Service was exceptional all round very friendly and helpful. Food, now that is the why I will easily return, I had the BBQ Chicken Wings, they where crispy and the sauce was delicious. Also enjoyed Bacon and Cheese Burger cooked perfectly with fresh ingredients. Chilli Mayo is a must try. If you just want something sweet give their cakes a try, both the Chocolate Cake and German Apple Cake where delicious we could decide between the two. Glad to see East London offering such an awesome place.

The decor is lovely and it fooled me into expecting a better experience. Today (27th December 2022) was my first visit and it was altogether underwhelming. I ordered the eggs hemingways (Eggs Benedict with salmon) and after waiting 40 minutes for it, I'm totally disappointed with the food. When I arrived, it wasn't full at all and I opted to sit outside. The service was so slow and when I finally got my food, it was cold. I doubt I'll visit this restaurant again.

Goodness, where do I even start. My husband is from EL and thought we should check out Salt for breakfast, the first day we visited the restaurant I enjoy every single bit of the experience - the omlette I had ordered was fresh, presentation was pleasing and the gentleman who serviced our table was friendly and a pleasure. But all this changed so quickly, we skipped a day and went back to Salt only to be met by the most horrid service I've ever had to endure in my life, served by a lady there who I got to know is called Okuhle. This lady served us like we came with free food coupons that she had no time for, anyway she was funny from the get-go. This was one of my busiest mornings so I was working and had my laptop on my lap the whole time, she came hastily to take our orders, I asked for Rooibos tea with milk, the tea came and I thought she would still bring the milk but after a long wait it didn't come so walked up to the coffee bar to ask the gentleman there for warm milk, and I came back to sit down only to notice that my cup had red lipstick on it so I waved and showed her this in the most friendly of ways so that we can change it. She seemed upset and unpleased about this request, strangely. She came back with another cup that was heavy-dripping of water with small black remains from brewed tea in and some more milk on top of the milk I had fetched earlier and she hastily left. Anyway, it was very clear this lady was in a bad mood of sort - I'm from out of town me, we don't know each other at all with this Okuhle so it couldn't have been me that upset her with my mere presence that day. Anyway I had to wipe that second dirty cup just to move on and continue working. My husband was on a business meeting call at this time and was sitting in the car when his 2 friends came to join us, this was 5 minutes before our food order came (mine and my husband's), Okuhle put his plate on the table and came to stand next to me to insistently hand me the omlette plate in my hand while I was cleary typing on my laptop putting together an urgent article that was due, this is with all the space on the table but she stood there until I could take the plate from her - I'm really not sure what this was about but I had to stop working to grab this plate from her. To my very shock, the omlette I had been looking forward to was black and burnt (see image), I sat there in so much disbelieve as I had been raving to my husband's friends that "I can't wait for my omlette, and that I thoroughly enjoyed it the first time we were there" etc. everyone at this point was laughing at this omlette, and teasing me that "You live by the omlette, you die by the omlette" as they could also pick up this Okuhle lady's appalling behaviour towards me, specifically. After about 5 minutes I wave to her to tell her that the omlette is burnt, and still in a foul mood she says nothing, grabs the plate and goes into the restaurant as we were seating outside. She comes back with another better looking omlette and at this point I'm famished and just really happy to eat, I continue to eat while working and my husband's friends had received their orders too. My husband was also done with his meeting so we are all sitting together eating, I don't know what that was, but towards finishing my omlette, I bite into these hard brown crystal-like particles, like something old and dried up that wasn't supposed to be in the omlette (we all couldn't tell what those things were). I honestly wanted to finish my omlette but couldn't because I feared those things were firstly poisonous so, I spat the entire bite out and didn't want to cause any issues in front of the people I had only just met that day. This happened 2 weeks ago, I'm back home and this experience is haunting me to this day and that is the reason I had to put it down so that it can leave my system. To that Okuhle lady 'umqhundu wakho sisi' for that traumatising service you gave. Next time, call in sick if you don't feel like serving people, I'm not your friend and that establishment truly deserves better.

Service is fast and excellent if Geraldine is there. Outside it's very slow and long winded to wait 30 minutes for a cup of coffee and then at least an hour for food. We where there on Tuesday toast was burnt and order was wrong and the few bits of salad aren't worth the money. There needs to be serious attention given to the waitresses they not hands as they were 6 months ago

Lovely place, great food at REALLY good prices too. Hums over lunch time so be sure not to lose out on your spot. They make really really good coffee!! Bring a friend and share this experience with someone!

My boyfriend and I went to Salt for the first time to celebrate 6yrs of dating. It was a wonderful experience, we ordered the BBQ chicken wings as a starter to share, they were so delicious!! For dinner I had the Fillet Steak with pepper mushroom sauce, I chose to have the steak cooked medium. It was by far the best piece of steak I have ever eaten, it was like butter melting in your mouth! Absolutely delicious and so soft. I would definitely go back here to try out more on their menu. Also such friendly service. I recommend Salt. 10/10.

Their Salmon dish is out of this world. The only think that sucked is how waiters were just looking at me standing at the door instead of coming to attend to me. Bummer?

Worst experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant in EL. Took my pregnant wife out for breakfast, sat & waited for an hour for my food, only got my drinks. Eventually went & asked a waitress what’s going on & said I’d leave if it’s still going to take long,, only to be informed that the kitchen staff never even received my order. After an hour. With my waiter not even bothering to come check on me in all that time. On top of that I was still told I must pay for the drinks & I can leave if I want. I contacted the manager & never even got an apology from her or from the owner. My wife was sick when we got home to top it all off. What a way to spend a Sunday.

Food was great. Bar doesn't care about serving cold beverages. Waiter staff very inexperienced.

What a beautiful view and amazing atmosphere. A place that will take away all your daily stresses! Friendly, fast and extremely efficient service. THE best pancakes in town. The food is brilliant. Nice size portions of meals. Definitely value for money. You won't be sorry!

Reading the reviews I was a bit apprehensive. Our waiter was probably the best part of our experience. Very friendly and polite. The interior was very generic. Long waiting times. The coffee way too hot and the food was okay.

Unbearably hot the day we went there without much attempts to cool the place down with aircons. That being said the pancakes were great. Also be prepared to wait... It will take ages to make a pancake.

Fantastic experience. Loved the atmosphere and the food was great value for money and hearty. Many more vegetarian and vegan options than normal and super tasty as well. Will definitely be returning soon. Can definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone, especially vegetarian/vegan.

We arrived and wait staff were wearing their masks around their necks, not covering their nose or mouths. People who serve food are the most needed to keep decent hygiene. Social distancing was not enforced. Table was not clean and menus were sticky. We left. We're in a pandemic and i am not willing to be in a restaurant where this is not taken seriously.

I love that they open very early. I have gone there for a number of my breakfast meetings. My favourite hot drink is their hot ginger chocolate.

Good food, not really baby friendly, well most restaurants aren’t I guess. No baby changing station, they do have baby high chairs. Music was a bit loud. We had a very friendly waiter. And I could breastfeed without anyone throwing a tantrum so that’s a plus.

I love Salt, was there a week ago for our company yearend, i thoroughly enjoyed myself, the atmosphere, food and service. This past Thursday i took a friend there as i was raving about my prev experience. I had booked a table for16h30, got there at 16h10 and waited for a good 10min at the door to be seated, it never happened. We ended up sitting outside. There was no one to assist us for the long time or at least come tell us that they were busy but would attend to us soon, nothing. 45min into my being there i received a call asking if i was still coming since i had booked a table. Ordered the same meal n cocktail as the previous week, totally diff experience. The prawns were heavily coated in tasteless batter, the strawberry daiquiri was white with no puree. Was soo embarassed and kept on trying to explain to my friend. Disaster much

My partner and I were looking for a decent breakfast as we are in town working. The worst service I have ever had at a restaurant ever! Our coffee took 20 minutes to arrive and it was well over 40 minutes when we decided to walk out. We wanted to pay for our coffee and the waitron behind the desk told us to just leave. I would not recommend them at all.

Took the family there for a rare eating out experience during COVID. Everything was going well until it was nearing closing time. We were asked to pay the bill early because of load shedding, which was understandable, but then we were basically rushed out the door. My daughter was still eating her sandwich when a takeaway box was offered to her, and her plate was taken away while she was still eating over it. The manageress hovered around our table, the blinds were closed while we were still eating, and the waitress didn’t even thank us for the above normal tip. You would think in times like these where this industry is taking strain that people would go the extra mile. They didn’t even want to go the regular mile.

Lovely setting, both sweet and savoury pancakes as well as other goodies.

One of our local eateries and we always love the view as it overlooks Gonubie Beach and ocean. We have seen whales on quite a few occasions. We love the savoury tuna maye & onion pancake. My only "complaint is that they don't have more of a variety of good wines but this does not stop me from going there at all! I think I must chat to Salome, maybe I could take my own if the corkage is not too bad.

We hadn't finished, a waiter asked if he could put a reserved sign on the table, then awhile later clients came stood around our table then a waiter came and asked my daughter if she would mind moving inside while waiting for me. We were felt so pushed out its sad as the meal was delicious.

Great food, well presented and offers something for everyone. I have a bunch of fussy eaters and everybhad something they really enjoyed. Coffee isn't bad either. All together you will be very happy with your selection. Salt is definitely worth a visit

Best place ever

Waited 1 hour 15mins after ordering food to be told our order had not even been started, wanted to go and still told to pay for our coffee. Terrible service, waiter didn't even show any empathy towards us. Never coming here again.
