One of the best and most humbling things to do when visiting a new place is being able to view that place from a higher vantage point and enjoy the full sprawl of a city or town. The Settlers Monument is the best place to do that in Grahamstown. I travelled to Grahamstown for the 2015 National Arts Festival, and despite all the exciting events happening throughout the town, the Settlers Monument and the view from the hill was still my favourite thing about the trip.

Watched a couple great shows over the weekend at the Arts Fest, and was a good experience to see the Settler monument in a good state.

No guided tours and few information boards. A pamphlet with history and information would have been useful. Staff were very apathetic. Good views of Grahamstown and surrounds.

We stopped briefly on the way to a meeting one year. A nice view from the monument and some interesting dated stones! Won't rush back with the family though. :(

This monument is used by the Rhodes University to hold functions. From students admission seminars to graduations and other Important celebrations. There are a number of high class and well maintained auditorium. Lots of good parking space with security. Situated in what appears to be the highest point in makhanda. Beautiful view.

Falling apart. Needs maintenance and a fresh look. Its 70s veneer has faded.

Lovely place to visit but there was nothing to do, all the restaurants and pubs were closed on a Saturday - would have been great to have a refreshment on our visit
