👍 I love this place. Quirky and eccentric. Great food but simple. Really fair prices. Service is advertised as awful but really quite good. Grumpy at times but good. Live acts on a regular basis. Sport on tv screens. I regularly visit Port Elizabeth from the UK and this is always our first place to ea... People often mention steak, great, Great, good, service, prawns,

Fascinating unique and interesting place to eat. Full of old memorabilia. Was an extremely worthwhile experience. The food was great value for money and not fancy but really delicious. Well worth the effort of paying this restaurant a visit.

I love this place. Quirky and eccentric. Great food but simple. Really fair prices. Service is advertised as awful but really quite good. Grumpy at times but good. Live acts on a regular basis. Sport on tv screens. I regularly visit Port Elizabeth from the UK and this is always our first place to eat, meet and have a ball. Why 4 and not 5 stars. Personal choice but a couple more beers on draught and a few changes to the menu would do it.

Relaxed friendly atmosphere, attentive staff, friendly and helpful. I had the prawn special offered on Tuesday night's excellent value for money. Very eclectic, sawdust on the floor, lots of Nick nakes to see almost a museum of bygone days. Probably best to book , street parking, car car in attendance.

Decent place for a good meal and drink. Tongue in cheek humor and very old school atmosphere. A large collection of odds and ends around to keep you busy looking for hours. Friendly staff with great service. Would definitely recommend. Decent food for pub affair and great value. Clean and well maintained hotel with guirky rooms. If not visiting to sleep over, at least have a drink and snack at the bar. We'll worth it.

Newly opened Phoenix restaurant next to the Phoenix Hotel. Great service & tasty Halaal food. Eccentric signage and a wonderful toy display at the entrance.

Food was good and an amazing atmosphere. I love the fact that they have playroom for kids. I would prefer if the mocktails were abit colder however it was lovely.

What a huge disappointment. Although the picture shows the 500g prawns the special is on the 250g prawns which is only 10 small prawns for R189 that usually that normal price is R170. Food arrived ice cold in drips and drabs. Sauces arrived after we were almost finished eating and one of us ordered a steak which only eventually arrived after we had all finished eating. Also the most oily tasteless prawns I have ever had. I will never be returning there again.

2 star hotel with 1 star food. Definitely not worth venturing into town for. Medium rare steak came well done, in three pieces and drenched in a sweet marinade.

This is one of South Africa's oldest hotels. It is steeped in history and is full of very interesting and rare collectables. The whole building is magnificent. It is located in the old, central part of town, and the iconic Donkin Reserve (with the lighthouse and famous pyramid) is directly opposite. This is a legendary hotel, the new owners have made it an alcohol-free establishment, which is important to note. Food here has always been excellent, and great value. Hearty, homely pub food. Bookings are necessary as it is extremely popular over weekends.

The restaurant's decor consists entirely of classic American pop culture, Hollywood movies and music collectibles, photos and artwork. Think Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra and dinky toys. The food is very well priced and the restaurant has a relaxed vibe. I recommend the prawns which are available everyday and on special on Mondays/Tuesday. The prawns are available in 300g, 400g or the 500g for only R139!

Mixed grill and onion rings. The whole plate of steak, chops, sausage with the egg were exactly as ordered. The service from all the staff was first class and as prices go it was better than most. Thanks to all for the great service and food

Full of old world memorobilia , the hotel is known for a good plate of steak or fish and chips. Well worth the visit particularly for out of town visitors. There are two sections, the pub which also serves food and the dinning room with its sawdust covered floor. Friday nights a reservation must be made. Could be the oldest operating hotel in SA . Not sure I would want to sleep there though because its not in a great area of the city.. Character filled bit of history.

This is the best steak in the world. I have traveled all the way from Pretoria to come and have a steak here and I am so pleased to say that the quality, taste and experience is still exactly the same as it has been all these years. Superb and a must do when you are in Port Elizabeth.

Had dinner at the Stage Door on 10 July 2019. I ordered Surf 'n Turf. The steak melted like butter in my mouth and the Calamari was soft served with chips. Absolutely loved the vibe and the good olden days collectables on display all over. Friendly staff and helpful waiters. Definitely worth a 5 star rating!! Highly recommended restaurant!
