Update: I'm going to be giving this only one star very shortly. I'll give it another month or so yet. Anything that has to do with the St. Joseph's health care system is so unorganized and they make so many mistakes. I'm have been going to the medical PCP on 6th and Walnut Street for a while now and I can't believe how horrible things have gotten since I came back. I've gotten some tests done recently and they had all the dates mixed up and couldn't find me in the system. It takes forever to get checked in. When I went to get my colonoscopy done, I was concerned that I may not get through the procedure alive. Everytime they make mistakes or or taking too long to check me in and use the computer system, they tell me to bear with them because they are changing over to a new computer system. This has been their excuse for at least the past five years or so. I would suggest that you go to the Reading Hospital and use the Doctors that are in their system. I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to switch to the Reading Hospital and their whole system. Although I deal with many different types of doctors and specialists and I'm fastly losing my faith in the whole medical system no matter where you go. I'm shocked how things are going on with everything about the medical field around here. I'm wonder if it could be like this everywhere in our country. I'm talking to lawyers about the horrible things that I have been through with the doctors and hospital. Take my advice and keep track of everything little thing when you go here or any other place that has to do with the St. Joseph's health care system. Unfortunately I've had to do this for awhile now and I've got so much information on the stupidity and the negligence to bring their whole system down, but I'll continue to keep track for awhile more, because it never ceases to amaze me how much worse it keeps on getting. I'll have to do something about this whole situation soon. One of these days they do something that could seriously affect my health or something even worse then that. Right now I'm so frustrated and I'm not sure if there is any place that is safe for our health care today. In the meantime I will keep on top of this and maybe I'll be able to find a safe and more trustworthy place where I can get better health care. So if anyone that has anything to do with any aspect of the St. Joseph's health care system, maybe you should start conversations with others who work or have anything to do with this health care system.

I've been a patient here for over 10 years. The best providers, nurses, cna, lab personnel, room service and cafeteria staff EVERYONE here is amazing. I am so grateful for their outstanding service. I had delivered 2 of my children here, I had surgical procedures done here and been at the ER several times and my experience has always been smooth. Outstanding compassionate service. The night shift staff is so patient despite being on during such difficult shift. Covid has changed the world and individuals have different experiences depending on their specific situation; I am eternally grateful. I recommend this place.

Arrived at lab Saturday morning for blood work at 5:50 am. Lab opens at 6:30 am which I knew. First employee arrives at 6:25 but must wait for counter girl to arrive. 4 people now in waiting room. 6:40 am counter girl shows up with food in hand from store laughing about being late. Third employee arrives a few minutes later also laughing about being late. I get checked in and last employee to arrive says she’ll be right with me and asks counter girl if she wants coffee and leaves. First girl to work takes me and says the other two must have been out late the night before. Two girls should be fired. Hahaha, it’s funny to be late for work?

It’s sad when you’re in pain & sick yet alone scared & decide to go somewhere that’s suppose to be focused on making you feel better, rather than being rude & treating patients like We are a burden. 😞 I won’t recommend this to anyone unless it’s your last resort. Sad because I used to always tell people to go here instead of reading hospital but as time goes on I’m not sure what’s going on with this hospital. From non informative Doctors to employee scandals & rude call reps & don’t get me started with the Er 🤦‍♂️.. it’s sad what this place has become over the years 😢. GOD bless all who see this & please like i stated before for the love of GOD only resort to this hospital as your last resort.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would some of the doctors at this hospital needs to be fired the doctor I had was dr .Siberski I came here for help and was dismissed and told to go to my obgyn for prenatal care and to be exam and that I’m misusing the emergency room and that the emergency room is only for people that’s having life threatening issues when I have a right to be seen and treated. I felt like they were being racist the supervisor was no help I will be reporting this place . Never again will I come here trying to get help remind you Iam pregnant

I used to think this was a great hospital compered to the Reading Hospital, but now it seems they’re similar in every aspect. My mom went today because she is sick with pneumonia and she also was complaining about a migraine, and told the nurse when she went in. She was talking to me telling me that she is just out in the hallway when there’s empty rooms, she repeated to the nurse that she has a migraine and she said she is getting discharged and she hasn’t even been seen by the Doctor. I get that rooms are limited but having a migraine could be uncomfortable specially with the bright lights in the hallway, I just don’t get why she can’t be in a room if there’s empty ones.

You're better off going to an emergency animal hospital. Most of the staff I encountered were rude and unprofessional from nurses to doctors. The place is dirty and some of the nurses have poor hygiene. You better hope you have an emergency closer to Lancaster or Allentown so you don't have to come here or to Tower Health. I've learned to just avoid any place affiliated with Penn. My experience with their outpatient services has been terrible too.

Id give them -10 if possible!! Seriously 10 hour wait for an ER !? Meanwhile my daughter is sitting in pain and people are having family gatherings eating and chattering like nothing is wrong while they are ALL wearing a bracelet to be seen !!!??? It was ABSOLUTELY Ridiculous. Heaven forbid you ask a question because the staff is snappy and mean . They even sat there behind the desk ordering and eating food. Very unprofessional!

My blood pressure was spiking. It took me 2 months to get an appointment, and when I showed up they told me there was no doctor there and I had to come back in May. There was zero concern for my health, and I was denied medical care and was unallowed to speak to any qualified medical professional, only the secretaries. Immediately, when I became upset, I was met with excuses and the passing of blame. I'm autistic, and they told me to calm down and acted like I was being unreasonable, which caused me to have a panic attack and they watched me leave and drive away with my baby. No concern for care at all, and I am in the process of filling complaints with the department of health, as well as filing suit. The only way to get medical care there would have been for me to have a heart attack in the office so they could call me an ambulance and charge me for a hospital stay. The entire system is about scheduling appointments and taking whatever payday the insurance will give them. We need a return to real care. This place discriminated against me for being a large, loud, mentally ill white person. I'm not proud of my subsequent outburst, but when the burden of patience is on the patient and not caregivers, the world has gone to pot.

3rd world ER waiting room. 5 out of 6 employees were cold rude and indifferent. Excruciating pain from kidney stone & abdominal obstruction & severe dehydration ignored for 7 hours and still counting. Ambulance takes me to ER waiting room(?!) where I fainted & they were annoyed I was on the floor on my side balled up instead of in their hard chairs. Dr DiFranco gaslit me, he doesn't listen. I'm still nauseous & in pain being discharged at 2AM on Sun with the same symptoms & meds that landed me here in the 1st place. Horrific treatment. Previously I had a good experiences here for broken/fractured bone. Dumbfounded at the poor quality of treatment. Just kill me.

My friends son was just there waited 4 hours an 8 year old in pain! And after asking 2 times she asked what was going on and they said oops we had him as he was discharged sorry. This boys face swollen awake all night and finally they did his vitals just to go into another ro for another 2 hours and after crying to me cause she didn't know what to do I said to tell them he is in alot of pain. Well they offered him a sandwich. I said you needed to tell them your leaving and go to urgent care. Imagine that few mins at urgent care and he was seen. I'm told they are better than reading yet apparently not one nurse had any idea what to do except fool around making jokes. Good jo 👍

I was just reading the reviews left by others. Most of them sound very one-sided. My wife and I have been going there for the past 10 years and they saw her through several heart surgeries and two times cancer and hospice care. There are some things we could complain about, but the positives far outweigh the negatives. Are they perfect? No! do they make mistakes? Yes! Don't we all?

I was in the ER in November for a mental health crisis that required me to be evaluated and the staff ranging from Reading EMS who transported me to the hospital, clinical nursing associates, the 1:1 aide, registered nurses, Dr. Siberski, and Helen the intake worker from Haven who all assessed me were amazing. Registration and Trevor the phlebotomist was amazing. Staff provided me with snacks and drinks, movies. I was walked straight back to a BH safe room where I had to change into scrubs, my items were confiscated, searched by a security guard, and get tests and vitals done. It took 2 staff to draw my blood as I’m usually a hard stick, and was unfortunately poked 2 times to get a drug level. It was my first time in the ER due to behavioral health concerns so it was scary and emotional. Thankfully I was discharged 2 hours later when behavioral health evaluated me and said hospitalization wasn’t necessary, especially that Thanksgiving was in 2 days and didn’t want to spend my holiday in the psych ward. The doctor communicated with my PCP who is outside the Penn State Health network and within Tower Health. The intake worker provided me with resources of psychiatric services, but was discharged from the practice I attended for nearly 5 years which landed me here in the first place. However, I normally go to Reading Hospital, but was transported here instead because the psych ED beds was full and didn’t have a choice. EMS in the ambulance on the way to the hospital were empathetic and explained everything to me what will happen at the hospital. Compared to Reading Hospital ED, service was much quicker, less people, but was still in a room with lots of beeping nearby. I still go to Reading Hospital as my primary hospital.

*** BEWARE*** They will not work with you at all on services provided. For literally just getting my vitals checked, my insurance was over $2,300 and I'm left with a sizable chunk. Go elsewhere. Patient advocates will not help you either.

Last evening I went to the ER, my BP was through the roof, I was really scared, I wasn't feeling right all day, literally thought I had had a heart attack. When we arrived the place was packed, the greeter/interpreter was patient and smiled and said there will be a 9 hr wait. I was panicking on the inside. I registered. Within 15 minutes, a very patient, professional young man gave me an EKG. In less than 15 more minutes after my test was read, I was called back to speak to a nurse named Niccole, she was just as patient and caring. Eased my stressed and paniking mind. I just can't thank her and the entire staff enough for their guidance, professionalism and knowledge. Niccole was definitely my angel last night. In the midst of all the people in the ER yesterday, the staff worked like a well oiled machine to take care of all of us. Thankyou

Came to the ER at 4:15a.m. today for excruciating back pain, don’t know what it is related to but I have a fever, chills and blurry vision can’t sit nor stand for long without feeling pins and needles. I was transferred into a room and have been here for 1hr and 45min! Not a doctor or nurse in sight to check my vitals nor tend to me. Pressed the call bell twice for pain meds and still no help. As a medical director at a nearby hospital i’ll make sure not only that I do not visit here again but that the news outlets hear of this. Shame on this staff! Update after pressing my nurse call button 3 times no nurse came no doctor. I wasn't even greeted by one. I decided to walk over to the nurses station and explained what was going on and TWO very disrespectful nurses said it was not their problem as they had just gotten there and had changed shifts! I proceeded to leave and explained I would contact the managers and news outlet. I went to Tower health and was finally treated the way a human should in less than an hour! I am a Christian and for this hospital to be “catholic” they hold no TRUE catholic values. Again, shame on you all!

Whoever the nurse was with the blonde ponytail that took my daughters vitals on Thursday evening 8/31 around 830 pm, was unprofessional. You didn't ask the right questions as a triage nurse, you shoved a swab in my daughters nose without even asking if she had any covid symptoms. What happened to the compassion and empathy for people!? Thank you to the doctor that actually asked what was wrong and listened to us.

Literally not even worth putting my energy into a review. If you have an emergency, good luck. There is zero communication. I was left alone for hours with no explanation, in pain, just to be offered motrin. After having tests done which weren't even explained.. and to have a doctor share the results without even seeing a result chart. The doctor said people are burnt out. I get that. I do. But it doesn't change having empathy for others.. which I experienced none while I was there. I didnt feel like a respected human. I felt like an annoyance to them..

My daughter was just born at st Joe's in bernvil and I must say when it comes to dad's they are very bias in the nicu and also in the labor department. You can sitting next to mom and they will act like you don't exist. Secondly I asked a nurse a personal question regarding my daughter. My family was giving me he'll about my child and wanted a dna so I asked the lady at the desk if it was possible for a dna mind you I told her I wanted this conversation private. I come back the next day to see my daughter in the nicu and the whole nicu coming to me about what I asked the lady at the desk in the labor department that was embarrassing my experience at this hospital will never happen again. They treat dad's like how these bitter moms treat they child's father my girlfriend has to stay tonight so my daughter can go home Tuesday none of those nurses ask me if I was staying they all ask mom

My wife fell going into our sunroom. She is on zeralto and had a pacemaker put in 3 months before now. I called the ambulance and we arrived to the hospital and my wife had room in emergency within 10 minutes. She was treated by various medical personnel but one nurse stood out more than anyone else her name was Kirsten. Kirsten went out of her way to make my wife comfortable and answered any question we had. Thank God there're nurses like Kirsten in this crazy world. Penn State hospital should be thankfull to have her on their nursing staff..

I was recently visiting in Reading Pa from NYC and suddenly became very Ill. I was hesitant about going to a hospital far from home especially being transplant patient but I could not return home in that condition. Immediately upon entering St. Joseph’s ER Department I noticed a very attentive staff, clean environment and not an over crowded waiting room. After minimal wait time I was taken into ER for treatment. I was treated by ER staff efficiently and in a timely manor. When I was informed I needed to be admitted for observation I immediately worried because of my transplant meds and hospitals experience with transplant patients. Dr’s and nurses were very knowledgeable and attentive from the start. Staff was able to get my meds easily and quickly if they didn’t have them in house. Nurses and staff were very pleasant, informative and took care of all my health needs. I am always a hard needle stick but phlebotomists made it look so easy by their well trained staff. I was very happy with the care I received at St Jospeh. My stay there made me feel at ease from the moment I arrived to the moment I was discharged.

This place is disgusting!!!! They don’t care about anyone but yet they claim to be Catholics!! WHAT A JOKE!!!! I’ve been waiting for hours @ outpatient laboratory. I’ve been here since 11:15pm and it’s now 2:55pm!! I need blood work done and they said they didn’t have the order from my cardiologist, so Katie, the receptionist had me waiting for hours, I decided to leave after waiting for 3 hours. I’m gonna have to transfer to Reading Hospital because this place is pure GARBAGE!!!! UPDATE: 01/29/2024 This hospital responded with an email that no one responds to. It just furthers proves the 2.8 out of 5 are from real experiences and that these Catholics hospitals are racist, evil and care about nobody. What a joke!!!!
