a large convent with a church and several outlying chapels. Its free to enter but you should still be wearing your mask while indoors. I found the gothic construction, especially the vaulting of the church interesting. Definitely worth spending some time here.

The church is beautiful and large, it is made of gold inside but to get to it you have to walk and climb stairs since the church is located on a small mountain, the climb is a bit heavy so I recommend enjoying the walk, bringing water , hat, glasses, camera or cell phone to take photos since it has a nice view of the city and in the church there are viewpoints where you can take photos, there are no charges for photos. Inside the church you can find the facade made of gold, many images, figures, paintings, something beautiful if you like history and art. It is a very important tourist place for the city, I liked getting to know it. To see it, I recommend that you arrive early since they close at 3 pm. When you arrive at the church, you can walk outside and around it, that is where the viewpoints are located and in some places you can clearly see the Popocatépetl and Iztaccihuatl volcanoes. To go down from the church towards the city you must follow a path that will take you to a small grassy plain ideal for seeing the landscape. We went in July and the sky was clear because it rained the day before. The cold and the sun can burn you.

It's a catholic church with a big yard. The building is nice and is located on the downtown. The garden could be better maintained.

The Convent of San Gabriel Arcángel is one of the oldest 16th century convent complexes in Mexico, "one of the most emblematic architectural monuments of the long Mesoamerican history that developed and evolved in Cholula." Located in the center of the city of San Pedro Cholula, Puebla, it was founded before 1528 on the land where a temple dedicated to the cult of Quetzalcóatl was located. However, due to the lack of friars, the first stone was only laid on February 7, 1549 by the third bishop of Puebla, Sebastián Martín de Hojacastro. Its construction, carried out entirely by indigenous hands and under the direction of Brother Toribio de Alcatraz, was completed in 1552 and was dedicated on April 30 of that year by the same bishop Martín de Hojacastro. In 1568 it was surpassed in size only by the convent of San Francisco in Puebla, and had been proposed as an architectural model for larger convent complexes, which is why it was chosen for the meeting of the provincial chapter of the order. The following year the convent housed only five friars who spiritually assisted 12,000 people, but by the 17th century the number of friars had already risen to 30.

Unfortunately, it was still under re-construction after earthquake in Sept 2017. It is open but you would not appreciate its beauty in its current state.
