My friend and I were staying near here in Quito for a few days and we came here everyday for breakfast! The owners are so nice and friendly, and made us feel very at home. When we asked if they had strawberry juice, they went out to the market to buy strawberries!! I wish them all the best and definitely recommend Coffee Romance ☕️

What a gem we found. The owners are more than welcoming and lovely. The food is excellent, and their café latte is delicious—a bonus for the alternative milk (soy milk). They even made under request a delectable local soup that we won’t forget.

Tasty breakfast and arepa (vegan/veg options too!) spot run by a friendly couple with lots of tips about stuff to do in ecuador, from ayahuasca retreats to nearby sights. Seriously one of the best arepas I've tried in Quito, veg one is loaded with veggies, avocado, beans and cheese.

Best arepas we've had hands down 🙌🏻 Kind owner will give you spanish lessons, amazing chef we saw walking in with fresh ingredients, great books available to read up on the history of the area, with vegans and gluten free options as well! Going back in the morning for empanadas 🥰

I'm a foodie who has traveled a lot, and I REALLY love this cozy cafe in San Blas near the northern edge of the Centro Historico. It offers delicious made-to-order arepas and empanadas (including great vegetarian and vegan options), fresh juices, and an outstanding creamy, not-too-sweet hot chocolate. I visited multiple times during my 15 day stay in Quito -- both for the excellent food and because the owners Leitiza and Cesar were so wonderful and welcoming and happy to converse with customers. Their English is excellent if you prefer that, but they were also very patient with, and encouraging of my Spanish (which is still a work in progress). Coffee Romance is a MUST for any visitor to Quito, and a fantastic lunch option for anyone doing a Spanish course at the Instituto Superior a few blocks away.

This is the most adorable coffee shop I’ve ever been to. Both drinks and food are excellent and the owner is super sweet. The front is very unassuming so you might not notice it if it’s closed. Look for the sign outside. Highly recommend!

Best little cafe with the freshest food. Absolutely delicious arepas and hot chocolate. The owner is super friendly and makes the experience one of a kind! He even told us he would open early for us so we could get something before our flight but unfortunately we will have to leave earlier than we planned. I hope he or someone on his staff sees this so they don’t have to wake up early for us, sorry and we will be back when we return to Quito!!!

Wonderful hot chocolate. The owner was also so friendly, I stopped next door looking for a seamstress to fix my broken jeans but the place no longer existed, so he referred me to two other places on the same road and i managed to get my jeans fixed in 2 hours. Great service, highly recommended (cash only though)

An absolute gem of a place, I wish It was my first place in Quito to go to and that I didn't spend money anywhere else. For the next few days while I'm here I will try to go here when I am not cooking at the hostel. It has all that I look for in a cafe: ambiance, soft music, good service, cosy and charming decor and quality offerings at a good price. The hot chocolate I had today was the best I've ever had!! I love how they take pride in offering quality. Plus you are supporting a cute family who are friendly and honest people. You must visit this place FIRST in Quito! You will definitely go back

I came as a stranger and left as a friend. The owners of the Cafe are some of the most welcoming and nicest people I have ever met. I am Vegan and they made me amazing food! Arepas, hummus, soup, pasta… oh and don’t even get me started about the hot chocolate. They even bought soy milk for me to be able to make me more food. The food is incredibly good and the vibe in the cafe is magical. If you are in Quito you HAVE to go to this cafe. They put so much passion and love into preparing your food and you can really taste it. Amazing place with amazing people! I will be back for sure!!

This place was excellent! We wanted authentic food and hot chocolate while in Quito and Coffee Romance certainly delivered. Great service and cute atmosphere. You have to get the arepas and a hot chocolate. Wish we had time to go back!

Sweet Venezuelan people run this lovely little cafe, they speak English but encourage you to practice Spanish. Fresh and delicious breakfast, coffee and juice. Yummy chocolates for sale too. Definitely recommend!

I walked by looking for coffee, and the owners welcomed me in. They made me very good coffee and their cook generously offered me a fried, fluffy yuca dumpling stuffed with cheese. It was delicious. They offered me some advice and directions. They invited me to return for dinner at night and so I did. After asking my dietary preferences, they made me Arrepas and delicious salad. It felt like a home cooked meal with family, away from home. I hope to return one day to this sweet hidden treasure, and recommend that you do to!

Visited Coffee Romance twice during our stay in Quito - they serve one of the best hot chocolates we've ever had. The chorizo arepa is also delicious and comes stuffed with enough chorizo and toppings to fill you for an entire meal.

Friendly place with lovely food and drinks. I have visited several times and the arepas are very tasty and both the juices and hot chocolate I had were lovely too. But, above all, the people there make the place. I felt at home and it was nice to hang around after lunch for a chat and a laugh! Hasta luego, "MacGyver"

Such a nice place with the most friendly people. We ate there twice and had different kinds of arepa, which were all delicious. Definitely recommend.

Second time here and had the best arepas ever!

Such a hidden gem as everyone else said. Literally too because the place is small and cute. There’s no paper-menu, the owner greeted and explained their menu in person (English/Spanish). Wow! I was impressed and felt so welcoming. I ordered a chorizo Arepas and their lemonade. The lemonade is 70% citrus sour and 30% sweet, which is perfect for me (I am always afraid to order lemonade because they are usually overly sweet). There’s sugar on the table for you to add to your liking. The drink is plenty, I actually got 2 cup of lemonade out of it.

Delicious Chorizo Arepas made with love. The owner was super friendly and kind. We paid $22 for 2 arepas, 2 cappuccinos and a jug of lemon juice. A bit pricey but worth it.

Super nice place with affordable and delicious arepas. Very filling and come with a lovely salsa. Also get the lemonade drink it's sharp but perfect with the arepas!

I was looking for a chill and cute place to stay for a couple of hours and stumbled upon Coffee Romance. The perfect spot ! The owners are super nice, the arepas are incredibly tasty (there are vegetarian and vegan options🥰), and the coffee and chocolate are really good. The atmosphere is spot on, with cute deco and good music that isn’t overly loud which is often the case in coffee places. Would 109% recommend !

Cutest place, the hot chocolate is really yummie. The place is run by a Venezuelan couples. They also do arepas and empanadas.

Super cute spot with a friendly owner (bonus points he's a passionate vegetarian). The arepas were big, fresh and absolutely delicious and they do amazing hot chocolate too. Really cosy and friendly little space - it was our favourite spot in Quito

A really lovely cafe with incredible arepas and coffee. The arepas are large and very filling, and they have vegan, vegetarian, and meat options. They have several coffee options - I recommend a cafe con leche fuerte. They also have wifi, which is fantastic. Highly recommend it!

Such a nice place to go for a tasty lunch or dinner. All the arepas are delicious and SO filling. They even have vegetarian and vegan which is quite unique here. Coffee is also good and portions are big. The service is also really good, the owner is such a friendly guy happy to chat in Spanish or English with you. Would highly recommend stopping by at least once! (we went back several times)

A great place to come and grab a quick meal, very reasonable prices. The arepas are something special, nothing like I had before. They are so fresh and full with filling. Must visit if you are around!

Los Arepas!!! We love the coffee and food here! A must for anyone in Quito. Caesar Y Leticia are the best!!

  • 5/5 Charlie M. 2 years ago on Google
Corner café/coffee shop run by Cesar, his wife, and a helper or two. There are no espresso machines, no frothers, no fancy-schmancy coffee accoutrements. And hallelujah there aren't. All they make is done by hand--the coffee, the hot chocolate (both hand-frothed, by the way), the food--and done with true artisan skill and love. Great sandwiches and empanadas. Also a "Latin Breakfast" is available. Cesar is jocular and a wonderful host. Cozy (seating for a maximum of 10 or so), but you can simply hang out and enjoy your beverage(s) and food. Highly recommended. NOTE: There is WiFi, although why would you be on your phone when you can engage the staff and other clientele?

this place has amazing homemade food. the arepas are the best I've had and the portions are quite large. in addition, the hot chocolate is made from pure cocoa and cinnamon and milk and is thick and creamy. the interior decor and the owners are both very welcoming. worth a visit if you're in the area!

hola! after desperately (pouring rain and intense hunger) looking for a place to get something to eat we eventually (after multiple restaurants sadly having had to close for good due to government restrictions) arrived at coffee romance. could’ve been the end of the story.. BUT, Coffee Romance was taking a day off, too. we gave up. but the nice and awesome lady who owns the place saw us and let us in. she made some room for us, we had some wonderful warm coffee (and were invited!) and a nice chat.. we were ready to continue our search for vegan food AND had made a wonderful encounter. saludos y muchisimas gracias, adriana and dennis

Cesar and his wonderful wife Leticia are not only excellent, funny and charming, the food they make with the assistance of José is definitely top notch.

👍 Beautiful view of Quito Moderno! The service was good. The food was also good overall, especially the ceviche and fish appetizers. The menu is pricey and there weren’t as many options as I would have liked. I recommend this place for a special outing.

👍 Stopped in the market for lunch. Good fish. I could only eat about half the lunch, there is enough for 2 people. I paid $6 or $7 bucks for the food and $1 for the juice!
