The cleaning has definitely gone downhill.., I haven’t seen anyone actually clean anything in months. I can never find any dumbbel... The whole gym needs newer equipment. Everything is pretty old and weights are thrown everywhere which is honestly a tripping hazard. No one ever reracks their weights. The cleaning has definitely gone downhill.., I haven’t seen anyone actually clean anything in months. I can never find any dumbbells between 15-20lbs which is very frustrating. The ventilation/ cooling system is awful. It gets so incredibly hot in the morning as the portable A/C units stationed around the gym are never in use during this time.

They have suddenly closed the studio! I’m a dancer and yogi and I’ve been a loyal member for over a year. Having access to the studio is a big part of my mental well being. The only reason I signed up to this gym was so that I could use the studio as I don’t have space in my own apartment. This gym (NYCSC) Complained that people are taking the equipment (weights??) in the studio which is why they are closing it and only opening it for classes. But perhaps a better solution would be to store and lock your equipment away! My mental health depends on my self practice. Why are we loyal costumers having to struggle because of your lack of incompetence in finding a solution, where everyone is still happy and it’s fair. This selfish act, shows just how little this particular sport club actually cares about your well being and at the end of the day this is suppose to be a sports club/wellness that makes our health and well being a priority. Find a better solution where you costumers are not personally effected!

Great gym for the price! Lots of space and options, and the staff is always helpful and friendly. My only complaint is that they haven’t included enough weight machines on the lower floor. Tons of empty benches and free weights/barbells but always a wait for the weight machines near cardio. Even before 7am this is the one area where you will have to wait your turn.

This gym is just getting worse every day. I was being patient with the closure of studio 1 because of the renovations but the renovations are done and the studio is still closed. This is a space I use to do yoga and train by myself peacefully without disturbing anyone in an appropriate floor. I have verbally complaint to the staff and also through the web but nobody has given me a solution. I am very upset with this situation and I will leave the gym along a long list of members if you don't find a solution and open the studio 1 for everybody.

I should give this gym 10 stars. A star for every squat rack. It’s easily the best NY Sports club in the city. It has all new equipment and is the largest of all the NYSC’s, which by default makes it the best. As far as gyms go, I suppose unless you’re in a different tax bracket, this has to be on par with being the best gym in the five boroughs. I mean even if you’re going to equinox or some other white collar crime gym, 45lbs is still a plate.

It’s crazy that memberships start at $40 a month when the gym doesn’t have the capacity for all the members it has. I’m constantly waiting for machines because half of them are broken half the time. There’s only 4 stair masters, and 2 out of the 4 have been broken for over a month. If a machine breaks, you can expect it to be broken for a month at *minimum* before it’s “repaired” (notice I said repaired - not replaced, and you can tell some of these machines are old and have been bandaged over and over again, especially the stair masters). The owner and management clearly do not care at all about their clients and are money hungry. I know that NYSC as a whole has had financial struggles, but for $40 a month I expect better, especially with the traffic I see go through this gym. It’s hard to believe that with the amount of members they have that they can’t afford to buy proper equipment. I honestly feel like the updates did nothing constructive besides making it look better. There are little-to-no ab machines. What ever happened to the hanging leg raise? One good thing I will say about this gym though is that the staff is always very kind and attentive so shoutout to them as well as the cleaners who work very hard. Management needs to get it together though.

I love this gym! They make constant improvements and add new equipment to comply with customers demands. They also have a great variety of classes. Their staff is amazing, from the front desk to the different trainers and instructors. Simply great 🫶🏼

I was kicked out of this GYM after defending myself from a homophobic thug. Also be careful with your items, my friend got his stuff stolen and even tho it had a lock they said they are not responsible for your belongings. Do not waste your money and put yourself at risk there. Rock Fitness and Club fitness are 2 way better options in Astoria.

The club is a mess. There hasn’t been any hot water for like a year or more. The weights and equipment are never organized. I have come back to the gym early morning after being at the gym near closing the day prior and there has been no attempt to organize the place. The massive AC units are always leaking water onto the floor, which is a major trip hazard. I think worse of all, since the club advertises safe and clean practices, the club recently removed all cleaning stations for equipment which is not acceptable given the current COVID and Monkeypox situation.

I’ve been coming for a few months and have yet to have a decent workout where I don’t leave disgusted or angry. There’s areas of the gym that smell like dead animals. ALSO, there’s no shot you’re ever able to find a single dumbbell below 30 pounds- I’ve wasted far too much time navigating both floors to find anything below 30, not even to be found in use. Also, there’s people in the locker room who have talked about how there’s guests with fake Covid vaccine cards, so keep that in mind. I wanted to like this gym for the price, but I’d frankly rather pay 4 times the price elsewhere. Waste of time, waste of money. Go somewhere else.

This gym used to be a very nice gym in my opinion but for anyone looking for a good and new gym this isn’t for you all the equipment is old and half of it is broken. For example the cable machines are always broken and then it takes them months for it to be fixed also it’s smelly and they have these huge ac’s in the side of the gym that take up so much space. They need a new manager to be honest cause this is gym has gone down the drain me along with 5 other friends have left this gym already

I LOVE the classes. Instructors are enthusiastic, motivating and alignment based. Add more Body Pump because it's top notch! Using the weight machines downstairs could be better... lighter free weights-- (15lb and under) are rarely together and you have to search for its mate. Go at odd times to avoid crowds. General good vibe all around as people are focused on getting their workouts in. However, my main complaint is the lack of cleanliness! The main studio floors are always dusty, dirt piles under equipment for MONTHS, mirrors often smudged, and forget using a mat-- just bring your own folks. Unfortunately, the restrooms are often tragic. Water all over counters, on the floor-- a fall waiting to happen. Yikes. Please, please please change the filter in your water fountain on a quarterly basis... AC not working in a workout studio that often has its doors closed is unacceptable-- plain and simple. But truly, I do recommend this gym. Get in, get out, take Rachel or Jackie's Body Pump classes and you'll be grateful that you did.

Love this place I been a member over 15y It’s getting better again SLOWLY but I hope they can continue to improve. Last weekend Saturday someone leaf a bag of garbage in front of the building and by Tuesday night the garbage still there - I DON’T understand why the manager doesn’t ask someone to clean up -even though it wasn’t from the gym, some bad people left there - my point is IT LOOKS BAD for the facility. Please just ask some employees to go and clean up - that’s count!!!!!

I'm really disappointed in this club and it's staff members. The last few months I've had several billing issues, dealt with poor management and it really turned me off to the gym to the point where I stopped wanting to go and finally cancelled. The gym itself is always heavily packed, which is to be expected with a neighborhood gym, but it does interfere with your ability to have a good workout. Having emails ignored/being hung up on mid sentence by staff several times the last few months is also very upsetting. I'd recommend going to one of the alternative gyms in the area.

Great and wonderful variety of equipment, however, space is quite dirty and poorly ventilated. After morning hours, the space becomes quite stuffy and unlike Planet Fitness, does not feel or smell fresh. Hours are terrible. It should be 24hrs (like PF), or at least 5am to 1am/ 7 days a week. It's a New York City gym with small countrytown hours!

I hate to rate them one star because I really love the place, staff and the brand itself. I've been a member of nysc for a long time and i have always liked the easy access to any gym in NY which is better than any other brand in Manhattan, to have a gym every 10 walkable minutes is neat. However this current hot water situation is just crazy, this winter is brutal and they're still not done fixing the hot water issue, telling us we can go to other gyms isn't enough anymore that works for a couple of weeks while this issue has remained untouched for over a year now and we're still paying for it. No more towels no hot water.. what is next? No more sauna? There's also no heat in this location, clearly they're not doing this deliberately but why are we the paying customers paying for a corporation's battle? They cut towels, hot water and heat and their solution is to tell us locals that pay for a local-neighborhood gym to go to a gym 30 minutes away in the winter? But they don't want to fix the hot water problem, the heat problem and the towels problem. When are we going to get the hot water back? In the summer?

Been a member for a long time now. Also a Active duty military service member. This gym and company is not military friendly and does not care about military members. I am being forced to cancel my membership. not military friendly not willing to work things out with my membership, I have been a member for a while. I feel like I am being forced to cancel my membership after explaining my circumstances. This gym branch is not military friendly what so ever And unprofessional. And would not reimburse me for month charged. Would have to now go through my bank. I have been a member for a while. It seems NYSC cares more about money then customer retention and satisfaction. Please go to another gym a mom and pop gym if anything this club does not care about it’s members

My biggest complaint with this gym are the hours- closing at 7pm Saturday and 6pm Sunday is extremely inconvenient. That's way too early for a gym in NYC to close. It should be open till at least 10 or 11 like the other days of the week. People have all different schedules and for some, weekend evenings may be the best time- but this gym is closing way too early. It's annoying!

I went to my free trial at this gym with my friend, because we wanted to take the kit boxing classes together at this gym. But when I got to the reception they told me NO because my ID says that I am from Brooklyn, something that I think should not matter. Each person has their reasons and reasons for choosing the branch they will attend. They were very humiliating and did not give me any solution. This was this day, Wednesday, January 31 at 7:00 AM, the guy at the reception was very unfriendly. I just wanted us to leave.

I tried this gym out for a few days two years ago and still can’t forget about bad I felt there. The dumbbells were literally all over the place, any dumbbells 30lbs and below were either mismatched or I wasn’t able to find them. Im a female so I mostly use weights below that and I literally couldn’t find a set of 15 lbs that felt like the same weight (I had to look all over the place and didn’t even know where I could put them back where someone else could use them). The pictures that they post here of this gym makes it look amazing but that’s because they use the best angles and lighting. The upstairs area is really nice for powerlifting and weightlifting..but that’s about it because when you go downstairs it is a nightmare 😂I tried it out though and gave it a chance but I couldn’t possibly see myself going through the trouble of literally searching for dumbbells every single day on the gym floor. I don’t know why they don’t clean and how people can work out in this mess.

I am currently a member of this club. The gym, and space is great. The staff are great. However it can do better. They need to update on new equipment, a lot of the weights and machines are out to date. Also the gym needs to be strict on having members re-rack their weights after being finished. I see a lot of dumbell scattered in the area, and I don’t remember how many times I almost tripped due to a dumbell being in the way. Last but not least, they need to keep to date on fixing broken equipment, there’s been numerous machines that need either fixing or a replacement. Either way I still get a good work out, that’s what counts.

I joined NYSC Astoria recently and am so I did. The staff are great: friendly and sincere, and it’s terrific to walk into a gym with such a welcoming vibe. The space itself is well laid out, nice weights and equipment, and light filled! It is a bummer about no hot water situation in showers, and hope that gets resolved in the future. But overall, going to this gym is a highlight of my day. And I definitely give a thumbs up.

I really appreciate the number of power racks here. Dumbbells do tend to get moved around to random places, but I often see staff walking around to sort them, so that's nice. Also Fern at the front desk was incredibly nice and helpful when my friend and I had a question. The staff are generally friendly and greet me when I come in.

I don't understand why this gym (and chain in general) has gone downhill so much since covid started. Let's start off with the lack of hot water. I was told when they reopened that they were arguing with the Walgreens downstairs to spilt the hot water. Walgreens was refusing to pay half of something that NYSC would clearly be mostly responsible for. Expect no hot water in the showers or sinks. Additionally, there's no more towels either. Then there's the cleaning people, who will come into the locker room regardless of whether they are the gender that's supposed to be in that locker room. I've seen the man who mops up open the sauna door, keep the door open and mop it up while the sauna is on and people are still in there. He'll also just hang out in there on the phone or falling asleep. The machines mostly work but not all the time. Just not remotely worth how much they're charging for a membership.

If you go to this gym, do not attend the boxing classes or the group Mauy Thai training. The instructors, Henri and Klei Musabelliu, who also happen to be brothers, seem to be running some kind of circus when their managers are not around. The Mauy Thai instructor, Klei, the older of the 2 brothers, couldn’t seem to function if his girlfriend Nadine was not in class. Talk about the classic toxic Jack and Jane situationships you see on every corner. Even though she is not an employee at this gym, she must also be reviewed considering she thought of herself as some kind of popularity police in the social zeitgeist of Klei’s Klan. Was she hired by NYSC to deem new students worthy enough of learning the sport? Because that’s all she did. Besides distracting her boyfriend instructor from the rest of the class, she just sat on the dysfunctional chair as she gave out death glares to every passerby in lieu of candy on halloween. What a witch. You’re so much better than that Klei.

NYSC Website advertised a free trial so I signed up to check out this location. When I got here, Andre, front desk supervisor turned me away and declined the free trial pass because I live in Kew Gardens instead of directly in Astoria. The corporate website didn’t describe this…

Love this gym especially since they remodeled it. Paul at the front desk is the man he’s super nice. All the staff is friendly and for what you pay it’s worth it especially in Astoria where it’s hard to find a decent gym.

This gym has ton of equipment and not to mention an impressive power/weightlifting area. People doing Olympic weight lifts, powerlifting and CrossFit will be pleased. However the strength training machines really need work and the cable machines in particular are in abysmal condition. The machines aren’t oiled up at all and it’s nearly impossible do lat pull-downs. This is extremely lazy on the gyms behalf as this could be fixed in a minute. The leg machines they have are also from prehistoric times and really need to be updated (ie: leg extension).

Love this gym but I'm waiting for you guys to join other gyms in forbidding setting up tripods and filming in public spaces. I take training very seriously and filming in this gym is getting out of control I'm sure most if not all Don't want to end up in a random tik tok on the internet.

Honest review: I am not sure why people are paying $40+ a month when the whole gym is a mess. They need new equipments. Everything seems rusty and broken 😖😖 they owe everyone a refund 😂 I go to planet fitness currently and I was trying to see how is it in there but I found that plant fitness is 80% better cleaner and planet fitness has brand new equipments. I will not switch and thank God I still have a membership at planet fitness. NYSC - please take these advice to stay in the game. - update all equipments asap. Like now!!! - group them and in a way that people don’t have to run around to complete their workout.

Very spacious gym, on two large floors but only 2 studios, one of the permanent for cycling. Seems to be a lot of members and would benefit from another studio and more classes or the current studio used more. I agree with general comments on cleanliness and the state if nachines, which is funny. Not as cheap at 50USD per month plus 70USD per year for some nonsense, like the cost of the machines. Ironic, isn't it? Clients are generally ok with a bench of idiots who think machines are theirs and spend 30mins sitting in a machine, looking at phone. Not the classiest customers to be honest.

What’s not to love about this place! I went in for a 5 day trial and everyone at the front desk were so good. Fern,Thor,Denise all were very warm and welcoming, very chilled atmosphere. The equipment they have is just what I need for a perfect work out, and it’s very well spaced out and overall crowd is decent. After the trial I joined right away and they waived the joining fee, not a bad deal with 39$ monthly and no contract.

The gym is complete, but it lacks a LOT of cleaning. And be careful because people steal in the restroom. Yesterday I left my things stored and two women waited for the restroom to empty so they could steal the money from inside my wallet and my purse.

Overall it's the best gym with the best facility and people you can have in Astoria. I've joined a few different gyms in the neighborhood in the past 15 years and hands down this is place to go if u want to have access to many training equipment, group workout classes and culture of adults who genuinely respect the place.

Decent membership prices, equipment is nice, lots of group class options. Amazingly nice front desk staff. They know most people by name and take time to chat with everyone. Seriously great people. I took a spin class and was underwhelmed, but it was a good workout. Instructor didn’t use positivity to motivate, which is my preference.

I use to come here back in the day in 2009-2012ish time frame and everything was kept clean, neat and in order with the AC always pumping keeping the whole gym cool and crispy. Only complaint was the high price that was just robbing me monthly...had to leave for something more financially manageable.

This gym use to be good but has been pretty bad for the past year. There are a limited amount of equipment that are super high in demand and as a result working out in this gym has become way too time consuming. More cable, pulldown, leg/hammy curl, and pec deck machines are needed. In the past there were multiple of each and then they decided to renovate and get rid of everything. On top of that you have gym members who come there to socialize and hog up the equipment while they barely do any exercising on it. I shouldn’t have to be in the gym for 2 hours and for me to spend half of it waiting on others to finish up. This wasn’t an issue before the renovations that were made last year. Please bring back more equipment or at least limit the amount of socializing that happens while members are hogging up machines

The crowded subway version of a gym. Came here so far 5 times, all different hours, haven't been able to use cable machines once. Don't even think about doing leg extension, it's a 30 min line for the machine. Meanwhile they aggressively try to recruit you 🤦‍♂️ Machines are rusty and dusty. Oh, they'll also hit you with an immediate "yearly fee" of $75
