Sam's Fine Egg Roll is a tiny place. There are a handful of tables inside and one outside. Sam is the cook, and he greeted me with a cheery "hello" as soon as I stepped inside. The woman at the counter (I didn't get her name) was friendly. I placed my order and paid, sat down and she brought out my Pepsi. In more of an iced tea drinker but they only serve cans of pop or water, which was fine. She brought me a cup of ice, too, which I appreciated. The egg roll was the best I've had, and the Mongolian beef was delicious. They were generous with the beef. I was checked on a couple times, and there was a steady stream of customers. Definitely worth the trip.

I had THE best experience here! I travel a lot and try to go to the mom and pap restaurants and this place was sooooo good! The lady at the front was the sweetest and the cook was so sweet!!! Great egg rolls!!! and Crabrangoons and orange chicken!!!!!

We were looking for aunthetic Chinese food and after asking a few friends for suggestions, more than a few people suggested Sam's. We arrived at 8:45pm, ordered food and sat down to eat. Little did we know they closed at 9pm. We were greeted with huge smiles, open arms and had the best service I've ever had. We kept adding food to the order, and they kept bringing food and joking with us. I had the best egg rolls, crab ragoons, and pot stickers ive ever had. Serving of 4 pot stickers is enough for 4 people. Mangolian beef was awesome, hot and sour soup was fresh and great. I'm in love, and I can't wait to have Sam cook for us again! I'd leave 6 stars if I could.

A little gem of a chinese restaurant with the best orange chicken I've ever had! The owner of the restaurant (Sam) cooked our meal and his wife was working the register. I love to go places like this! The eggrolls lived up up to the hype as well. I will definitely be back!

The location isn’t fancy but the owners are delightful, friendly and kind. They are from Laos, and have been in Iowa for 45 years. They have been in business for 23 years. The food is fresh and delicious, and made to order. My husband and I are visiting from Kansas and we were looking for delicious Chinese food and we found it at Sam’s! The egg rolls were hand made, crispy with a flavorful crunchy cabbage filling. My husband said his Mongolian Beef was perfect (and he’s a picky eater!). My garlic chicken with mushrooms and water chestnuts was tender and tasty. Their fried rice was full of flavor and not just salty soy sauce. All portions were large, so there’s leftovers for lunch tomorrow! There are 2 tables if you want to dine in, and the owner’s wife served us with a smile. They seem to do a brisk take-out service as well. I HIGHLY recommend a visit. I would like to try their Laos special dishes next time.

What a wonderful experience! We searched ‘best Chinese food near me’ and Sam’s was the first place that came up. To start, the service was great. Both employees greeted us and were so friendly. We ordered to go and the food was ready in less than 10 minutes. The eggs rolls did not disappoint and were just as good as all the reviews claim. We also had sesame and generals chicken - both delicious! We will be back!

Such friendly service, and delicious food! I ordered crab rangoons, and my sweet and sour chicken entree came with an egg roll (or soup or crab rangoon). Would recommend. :) The sweet and sour sauce is the kind that’s light in color instead of red, fyi.

A very tiny location, only a couple of tables, but the food is fresh and excellent. Everything is made to order. They make their own egg rolls from scratch daily and do not cook them until they are ordered. Basic Chinese dishes, but well made, as you watch. Fried rice is excellent. Daily specials.

Sam's is always amazing if you're looking for Chinese or Thai food. Wife had beef and broccoli, I had pork pad Thai, both of us had an egg roll (it's in the name of the place, you can't not have one). Great quality and quantity.

Benn sometime since I've been here, but I was out and the urge hit. These folks make the best shrimp fried rice in the city, bar none!. The service was fast, the food hot and tasty after I got it home. I'll be going back again soon!

I have lived in the Des Moines area for 5.5 years, and have not been able to find any high quality Chinese food. I have an office downtown, and randomly popped in today for Kung Pao Chicken. This food is amazing. Sam was awesome — super friendly and welcoming. I’ll be back…probably a lot!

Absolutely amazing very friendly first time after working on the roads of Des Moines. Come in to sam amazing and warm personality and smile. Jokes with you while preparing your food, makes you feel at home. I dislike egg rolls but his are amazing

Probably the best tasting Chinese in South Des Moines. It is a small place to dine in with like 3 tables and a small menu but all the food I had is really good. We usually order take out. My wife loves their chicken fried rice. I really enjoy their Pud Thai.

This is the best Chinese food in town. Hands down. We have been going to Sam’s for over a year, and it is always our go to take out restaurant. The quality and flavor can’t be beat!

Idk what all the hype is about. They definitely need to update their pictures of the menu prices or u will get hit with unexpected amount. My hubby and I got the orange chicken and an order of crab Rangoon. I couldn't really taste the orange.egg rolls weren't any different than any other place, the crabs were good tho.. probably won't be back..

I've been going to Sam for over 15 yrs n not once have I been disappointed.My whole family loves the food so much and his prices are very reasonable he hasn't even messed up 1 order in all these years best Chinese food anywhere in town

The food was good, and the service was exceptional! Very large portions, egg rolls were especially good! Other reviewers are not exaggerating when they say that Sam will treat you like family. I saw multiple people come and go while eating here with my family, and he truly treated everyone with the utmost kindness and respect. He was amazingly kind to my children and we had a great meal!

We have had this place on our list to visit if we were on the south side, and tonight we were. Probably a better take out place than dine-in, but the food was still yummy. The chicken egg rolls are the star here (much better than the pork). Not the tiniest bit greasy, perfectly crispy and flavorful. The kung bao Chicken was super hot; but the General Chicken was just pleasingly spicy.

Nice place. I had a $10 pepper chicken special. It would be nice with way more pepper but it was good value for money. Lots of chicken on there. Egg roll was really good.

Sam’s is incredible. Him and his staff are so friendly and the food is absolutely delicious. There’s not a mediocre item on the menu. I go for the general chicken but the angry shrimp is killer too.

I moved here a few months ago and I wish I started coming here sooner! I was only there to pick up food but They are so nice! I will definitely come back again! The fried rice is so good!!! And so is the egg drop soup!!

New in town and feeling crummy with a cold, I found myself craving soup and something with a little spice. I looked for local options and saw great reviews for Sam's. The egg drop hit the spot and the kung bao chicken had the little bit of spice I was looking for with plenty leftover for lunch tomorrow. After seeing the reviews for the egg rolls, I got an order of those too. They are delightfully crisp and didn't taste oily. Give this small family business a shot. It was worth the little drive.
