We came down to Sarasota this Wednesday to attend a wedding and visit family this weekend. After driving for 10 hours from Tennessee, we were stoked to find this place was open late and the food is fantastic! We were greeted immediately by Anna D, and she was a delight from the moment we walked in. As we were sitting she offered to bring us water and come back to get our drink order. She made excellent recommendations regarding the menu and checked up on us throughout our meal. I’m thrilled we had a server that was thoughtful and had excellent advice regarding the menu. We had some lovely cocktails to begin with, so after our long drive that was very nice. We started our meal off with fried goat cheese, which were absolutely delicious. The dry rubbed wings were a hit as well. For our entrees we had the salad with chicken and jalapeño ranch dressing; and a down the hatch burger that was beyond delicious. What a surprising meal for the time of night and again, the service was fabulous!

Went here yesterday afternoon for a quick post beach snack and was overwhelmed by how good the food was! We had fried pickles and which were super hot and crunchy. We had a large garlic fries which were so good we almost ordered more, definitely our favorite of everything. We also got a double cheese burger (low five) which was just an average burger but the other food made up for it! Great service, the bartender was serving all the guests but she was on top of it! Great value for the cost. Highly recommend if you are looking for a great place to grab a quite bite and drink!

This place has sort of a "corporate dive bar" vibe, but I liked it! The burgers and fries were very good, but not super hot by the time they got to us. In fact, service overall was pretty slow (but understandable, times are tough in the service industry). The vegan bun cha was a real surprise, delicious sauce and great flavors. There are awesome beer/cocktail options, especially for happy hour. Plus an arcade! This is a fantastic place to catch some sports on TV or just have a drink. But the food hit the spot as well. We will come back for sure.

It was hard keeping myself to my rule of visiting an establishment 3 times before writing a review. I knew from my first step up the little curb from the "right in front" parking spot; being greeted enthusiastically by a outdoor dining customer; that I was going to like this place. The owner and management very obviously have passion for their restaurant. The staff each time have been friendly without being obsequious. Knowledgeable. Efficient. The menu is very well designed. Not overwhelming, and offering unique and comfortable foods for all types of diners. It is quite easy to fall in love with several different items! The food... Oh the food. The chef actually gives a *bleep*! Everything we have ordered so far... We are working our way through the whole menu... Has been artfully plated. Perfectly cooked. Most importantly DELICIOUS! The fries are hand cut and served in a paper bag. You shake up the bag upon receipt of it to perfectly season your crispy, hot, potatoes of goodness. The bag also absorbs excess grease so your fries are not disgusting. It is a BRILLIANT idea! I know I am gushing about something so pedestrian as fries... But when your kitchen puts this kind of effort into something so simple... You know their specialties are going to be fantastic! And they are! I could write a thousand more words describing it all... But EFF that! Go! Go try it for yourself! You will be happy you did!

Great food, great service, wicked cold beer, arcade with O.G. games. Can't wait to go back.

Gulf Gate Food + Beer: 06/08/2021 After a busy morning of Shopping the wife and I stumbled across this place, a hidden gem of sorts. Lindsey greeted us with a smile and had great suggestions for local Beers. I chose a Cigar City Brewing's Florida Man - A Double IPA. We started out with an order of PBR Fried Pickles which had the perfect amount of flakey batter, which did not make it feel like I was eating a pickle sandwich. The Pickles had a semi-sweet brine finish which was complimented by their delicious dipping sauce. I ordered the Mericuhhh burger and My wife ordered the Obligatory Buffalo Chicken sandwich with a side of Sweet Potato Tater Tots. The burger was juicy, loaded down with fresh toppings and the bun was even toasted. The meat itself had a great season to it and it could have been a meal on it's own. The Buffalo chicken sandwich was crispy, covered in a modest amount of buffalo sauce with a great flavor. The Tater tots were unlike anything I had ever had before. Don't question it, get a side order of them. French fries are home cut similar to another big chain that also puts them in a brown paper sack. They are the kind of fries you'll eat until they are all gone, delicious. Prices were on par for the area and justifiable based on the quality of service and food. Food was great! Had the Buffalo Mac N Cheese with Parmesan fries plus we accidentally came during trivia night, but it was such a blast! Highly recommend!

Great place! I was looking for a place to watch the Eagles and the Phillies and hopefully grab something to eat. It was after 10pm and my were limited. I happened into Food and Beer by chance and I'm glad I did. It was packed but, Katelyn behind the bar, was attentive and professional. She helped me right away, and my food came out fast. Burger was excellent, cooked just how I ordered it and the fries were legendary. I'll be back for sure. Prices are reasonable too.

And not only can you count on great food great beer and awesome hospitality. Just look at how clean this water glass is….wow just wow I love it thank you Lexi the best spritz my girl has had hands down

Bar food is pretty impressive, tasty and worth the calories. Good spot to take your kid or man kid as they have some arcade games. Kate the bartender is amazing, she ran that place like a champ. A must visit.

The burger was pretty pink and was less appetizing than then the photo on the online menu showed. The part that got me was the side of Coleslaw. It said "southern coleslaw $3.60" on the delivery menu. On the regular menu the coleslaw was was less then that. I expected something more then a scoop of plain coleslaw.

5/26/23. 1st time customer and super pleased by the atmosphere and the cleanliness of the entire place. Cuban egg roll was great as an appetizer for the 3 of us and our main order was quick, hot and very tasty. Good variety in the menu. Will definitely visit again

Great atmosphere and delicious food. I would have loved to have regular ranch instead of jalapeno ranch but still delicious. Tin can nachos a must😍😍

All the food that we have had here has been great, but I always come for the Tin Can Nachos! Most places give you a plateful of chips with very sparse toppings. These nachos are LOADED with delicious toppings!! We also tried the Buffalo Cauliflower this time and it was super tasty, but the cauliflower florets were WAY too big and needed to be cut into smaller pieces before they were fried. Manager Lisa was very personable and we enjoyed that she came over a couple of times to make sure everything was going well. I will definitely return!

Loud, stools to sit in, cold metal no backs, eat and run type place, crowded. Busy. Low price brings the crowds. I ordered the same as my repeat neighbors that invited me, the burger, it was a really good tasty burger.( I never eat burgers) .. ha. I did enjoy it.

I came here to try the Big Mick challenge. It's a 2.5lb sandwich that includes: 2 chicken grilled cheese sandwiches (one on top, one on bottom) and between them: 2 burger patties, 4 strips bacon, 2 eggs, fries, carmelized onions, and chipotle cream cheese. I fasted all day to have a crack at it. Saw pictures, and it looked delicious, so i convinced our party to head there for dinner. Upon arrival, there was trivia starting, and the place was full. They told us not to worry and took us through a connecting door to the arcade. They must own it or cut a deal with them because there was a bunch of seating and a bar in there. Immediately after seating, we were greeted and taken care of. Our party of 4 ordered, and our food came out quick, fresh, and hot. For the challenge, I was timed as expected. The sandwich was delicious and definitely substantial. Finished it in under 30 minutes, and I enjoyed every bite. Unfortunately, they didn't have a shirt to give me, which was a bummer, but they did manage to get me a hat and koozie instead. The service and food were both great. Left happy and full with souvenirs.

$17.00 and change during “happy hour” for a top shelf liquor rocks glass sized margarita is absolutely gross! Don’t mind paying for a top shelf drink but not even the ritz Carlton bar charges that much and they give you a tall glass at least not a five sipper short glass and your done for $17.00 and change and especially in a gulf gate bar location which isn’t exactly a resort beach destination with a view, just saying!

They were able to accommodate our large party very quickly, which was great. The service was amazing! The Mexican corn is one of the best things I've ever eaten. And, if you're thirsty, the Velvet Punch Party Bowl, can't be beat. I also had the 1-800-Call-Mahi - the pun names alone are worth it. Great time and atmosphere!

Some friends and I attended trivia for the first time ever at food and beer this week. We were a group of nine and arrived over a period of 30 minutes. The wait staff was phenomenal. I don't think any two people had the same beverage. Orders were taken and delivered promptly. Drinks were kept filled. The food was varied and delicious according to all. I had the giant pretzel appetizer. When they say giant, they mean Giant! And delicious. It almost looks burnt when it comes out, but that is just the crunchy outer shell yielding to soft, delicious, doughy insides. Everyone who works there was friendly and smiling and helpful. Trivia was a ton of fun too!

I have been staying in Sarasota for the last three weeks for work. Every time I travel i look for a place exactly like this. An almost dive with excellent food. Well folks, this place hit it out of the park. over a 12 night span, I visited this place 5 times! The boneless wings are incredible. I also tried every burger on the menu over this stretch (besides the basic) and all were great. My personal favorite was the down the hatch. As the name implies, the beer selection is great too! Was the perfect place to come have a few pints and dinner after a long day of work. I've never written a a review before but this place was so good I felt compelled.

From Ohio and came on a whim and this place is amazing! I recommend the pretzel and the burger! Fries are amazing also! Very clean and staff is very friendly! 10 stars!

While visiting friends in Sarasota, they said we MUST go here. So we did! The drinks were awesome and the food was fantastic. Reasonably priced for what it was. The birria tacos were fantastic. The consomme was good but not your traditional consomme. I like the kind I make better lol. They have an arcade in the other half of the bar which is a nice touch. I liked that part quite a bit. Wait staff was fantastic. Friendly, chatty, and efficient. They made it feel like you were the only customer in the place even though they were BUSY. It has an elevated atmosphere but at the same time, it feels like a dive bar. I say dive bar in a GOOD way. Their menu is extensive and can appeal to any kind of person's appetite. This is a MUST VISIT if you're in the area.

Great place with a chill vibe! Food is always fresh and hot (or chilled) and served timely. Staff is fun and friendly, you can tell they are happy and enjoy working there. Rotating menu options keep menu fresh. Try new things, I haven't had anything I don't like so far. Beer options are great, and bar as well. TV's if you want to watch games but a great family place as well!

Our bartender Lexi K was awesome. I got a sad phone call while there and she was so caring and sweet. Food and drinks were great too! Everything that came out of the kitchen looked amazing. Thanks for the great food and for taking care of us! Can’t wait to come back and visit!

This place is AMAZING! The atmosphere is inviting and relaxing and even though our waitress (Jay) had a few other tables the service was ABOVE average. The bartender seemed busy and we watched our waitress go behind the bar and make our drinks herself so we didn’t have to wait! We were impressed to say the least. The recommendations she gave were perfect. 10/10 recommend and will definitely be back for the Mexican street corn (yumm) and hopefully to see the same crew!
