A truly lovely spot to have breakfast or lunch. The menu is simple but the food is delicious. Affordable prices. Great play area for kids. Beautiful to spend some time walking amongst the roses and picking them to buy according to your taste. Quick service and friendly staff.

Had a wonderful experience taking my mom and friends to the October Rose Festival! The blooms were lovely, we enjoyed the cute displays set up for the festival and adored spending the day surrounded by roses and a soft breeze. We enjoyed the little tractor ride through the rose fields, it was a nice break from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The staff is very helpful and kind, I got many kind compliments form the lovely ladies working at the Gin table and the restaurant. You'll be pleasantly surprised at how beautiful the ladies restroom I'd (and smelled fantastic!) Make sure to grab one of the great smelling sanitizers they sell. Would highly recommend getting the Rose Milkshake! It was delicious 😍💕

The Rose Festival held annually in October is an absolute must for those who love these flowers! Walk through the gardens and choose plants to take home or check out the stunning displays of cut flowers in the hall and breath in the beautiful scent. The shop also stocks all sorts of rose-related products that are not readily found elsewhere, and the tractor/trailer rides are a hit with children. However, service at the on site restaurant is a bit chaotic on festival days so you may want to postpone tea or lunch until your next visit to the rose farm... (All photos here are my own)

Our third time eating at The Rose Kitchen. The food was well presented, and portions are adequate and delicious as always. Our waiter Kleytus was friendly. The atmosphere is calming, and even though they were busy, it was not noisy. Taking a wander amongst the roses before or after lunch is always a plus.

What a lovely place to visit! There is no entry fee. They have a very quaint restaurant with a play area for children. The menu is a bit limited but there are very interesting options to choose from. I especially loved all the cocktail options that had a rose fusion to it. The service was good at the restaurant but could be a little bit warmer. In the same area is a gift shop, that is a definite must to check out! Some of the items can be a a bit pricey but it’s certainly worth it. You can find edibles that are rose infused or even rose scented oils and a such. We had a lovely tractor ride around the rose farm and during which we would stop at points where the driver would step out to collect some roses for us to smell. You can also walk around to see all the beautiful varieties they have to offer. Should you fancy a plant, someone will assist with the purchasing of the item. A definite for anyone who would like to try something new or just have a relaxed outing.

This place is so beautiful. You can smell the roses as soon as you enter the car park already. I can definitely recommend their gin

Third visit in the last year. Absolutely splendid. Rows of rows of vivid colour and fragrant roses. The Rose Kitchen is equally admired. Scrumptious treats, thirst quenching drinks and best of all, it is done with a smile. Our waiting staff was Blessing - a wonderful addition to this place - cheerful and just lovely. I would also like to commend the nursery staff. All very friendly and helpful. A rose is cut for a child to smell. Such gentlemen. Overall, I highly recommend this gem

Ludwig’s Roses was established in March 1971. The farm is managed by a family team and currently employs more than 130 people. Ludwig Taschner, after whom the business is named, was born in Germany during the Second World War. He trained as a nurseryman and subsequently escaped from East Germany in 1960. He gained invaluable experience by working in nurseries in West Germany, Switzerland and England, where he started specialising in rose growing. He arrived in Pretoria in 1962 and worked for Buss Nurseries until he founded Ludwig’s Roses north of Pretoria. From small beginnings, the nursery has grown world renowned, as the premier rose nursery in South Africa. We grow the largest selection of rose varieties available anywhere in the world. Ludwig pioneered the propagation of roses in containers. Previously roses could only be purchased in winter as pruned, bare-rooted plants. The effect containerised rose plants had on South Africa was that gardeners could select roses by their flowers, fragrance and growth habit for most of the year. This obviously facilitated popularising roses in every South African garden even more.He Ludwig’s has developed strong relationships with over 25 breeders from all over the world and annually tests thousands of new varieties according to their performance in the South African climate From these, a selection of 10 to 20 novel cultivars are named and released annually. This selection process may take up to 8 years. We are proud to have released top garden roses since they first opened their doors to the public in 1971. Varieties like Just Joey, Burning Sky, Casanova, Esther Geldenhuys, Archbishop Tutu, Walter & Albertina Sisulu and South Africa are to name but a few of the “rose celebrities”. Ludwig is the mastermind behind enthusing gardeners to get “hooked” on growing roses. He has been writing, giving talks and has travelled throughout South Africa and the world to convey his love of the rose. He released his first colour catalogue in 1975 with only 180 varieties listed. Today the catalogue contains over 1 000 varieties in a myriad of colours, fragrances and growth habits. Over the years the catalogue has become “a must have” collector’s item and is posted free of charge to over 45 000 gardeners around the country. By sending out a free monthly “Talking Roses” e-mail newsletter to over 80 000 “rose lovers”, we stay in close contact with each and everyone who enjoys the beauty of the rose. The website shares ample information on the growing of roses plus descriptions and photographs of all the different varieties and diseases. To subscribe click here. Visiting the farm, the mother nursery north of Pretoria is a sight to behold. A million rose bushes in full bloom appear like an ocean of colour with an overwhelming fragrance. 1996 Ludwig took over a 4.5ha cut rose farm, Ludwig’s Pretoria East. 2004 Ludwig’s Roses Egoli was opened in Johannesburg. 2006 Ludwig’s Roses Winelands near Stellenbosch. 2008 Ludwig’s Star Roses in the Midlands. 2014 Ludwig’s Roses Cape Town in Wynberg, opened its doors to the public. 2016 a branch was built on the Outeniqua pass near George 2017 Ludwig’s Roses Red Barn in Irene. 2019 Online sales and shipping of rose plants. These branches all boast hundreds of varieties to admire. Walking through the aisles of named roses is an experience in itself.the His son, Halmar entered the nursery in 1999 and has become an integral part of the every day management. Heike, Ludwig’s eldest daughter, is a renowned sculptor. Heike played a fundamental role in creating the restaurant, the venue and rose edibles. Find her work here Anja, Ludwig’s youngest daughter is a learned horticulturist and enjoys the cross-pollination and creating of novel roses. She is responsible for Ludwig’s marketing, and spreading the love of the rose and all its benefits to the world. Anja is based at Ludwig’s Roses Winelands – but is often traveling.

Wow what an amazing venue with exceptional service. Organised a picnic for two for me and my partner, and it did not disappoint. Well worth the price for the decor and flower arrangements as well as the food. Truly a wonderful experience. Shout out to Tsitsi and Norman, as they helped me to plan the perfect day for us.

Beautiful Day. Great setting, I enjoyed a very informative workshop. Would love to come back when in full bloom. I like that all the staff are very knowledgeable and willing to share information. Restaurant has a limited menu for vegetarians. Salad portion larger than expected, a little overpriced but service was very friendly.

What a beautiful place! The roses were in bloom and I have never seen so many of them at once...stunning! The restaurant is very nice, the prices are affordable and the food delicious. Every staff member was friendly and very helpful. There is a gem of a playing area at the back - with shading nets. I thought it was very unique with lots of toys and a huge sandpit. My kids absolutely loved it. Will hopefully visit again.

Ludwigs offers a perfect trip out, to walk between the roses or grab a spot of tea (or gin!!) We made use of the hall for a High Tea, and talk a walk through rose mile. Pretty special and really worth it.

Beautiful place. Akin to David Austin Roses in the UK. Amazing roses, glorious gift shop, and the most delicious carrot cake ever served by warm and friendly staff.

Always lovely to enjoy the scenic surroundings, great atmosphere and beautiful & delicious food. Waiters always very friendly and helpful. (Waiter staff sometimes seems to be short staffed.) Great play area for kids & pet friendly too! They also make use of sustainable straws & take-away containers, which is fantastic!! All the flowers are beautifull and very neat and everything is in place. Bathrooms very clean. Restaurant is a complete let down.... So much potential wasted... Very disappointing and slow service. We ordered drinks on arrival.... We waited 40mins and received WARM milkshakes.... Yes I know... How is this even possible?? Ordered food... Waited almost an hour... When food arrived we asked to order drinks and she told us that she will be with us shortly.... After our food was finished we had to call our waitress and ask if you can please order that drinks?? Waited 15mins and only half of the drinks arrived... My wife still wanted to order apple pie and ice cream but the heat was so severe (no aircons or fans) that we decided to order the apple pie as take a way after we walked through the roses. We went back.. Ordered it and asked for a plastic spoon or something to eat it in the car and was told sorry we don't have.... Maybe you should say that when we order and not after paying and receiving it...a restaurant without plastic spoons... Laughable.
