Wow! This place is exceptional. We were looking for a new restaurant to try for take out and remembered seeing this one. I’m assuming it’s a family run business because they truly take pride in their food. Just incredible and we will for sure make this part of our regular rotation. We ordered the saffron chicken kebab with eggplant and kabeli palow with pumpkin purée, sautéed lamb and potatoes. Also some bolani on the side.

Bamiyan Afghan Restaurant is a wonderful family-owned establishment that truly delivers an exceptional dining experience. The manager, Mousa, is fantastic and goes above and beyond to ensure that all customers are satisfied with their meals. I must say that this is the best Afghani restaurant I have ever visited in Sacramento. The food is delicious and beautifully prepared, with a wide variety of dishes that are sure to please any palate. And the desserts are simply amazing - be sure to save room for them! One of the highlights of my visit was the belly dancing performance that they offer on certain nights - it was truly mesmerizing and added to the overall ambiance of the restaurant. In addition to the fantastic food and entertainment, Bamiyan Afghan Restaurant also sells high-quality saffron that is just as amazing as the food. I highly recommend picking some up to take home! All in all, I would highly recommend Bamiyan Afghan Restaurant to anyone looking for a great meal and a wonderful experience. Thanks again to Mousa and the rest of the staff for a truly memorable dining experience!

Where do I begin.... First off, I would like to say that the food tasted fairly good, but I wasn’t particularly fond of finding a human hair in two of my dishes. Upon bringing one of the dishes to the attention of the staff, they hesitantly took it back and offered to replace the dish. The staff casted some reluctance in whether the hair truly existed upon presenting the food, or if it was my group’s doing. Additionally, there was a lot of confusion regarding who to order from, where to pay, where to wait, and how long the meals would take to make. When we began to order, we asked for recommendations on food options and the staff didn’t provide any recommended dishes. Once I arrived home, I discovered an additional hair cooked within another dish. I wasn’t sure whether to continue eating or put it away completely. Again, the food had a great flavor and pleasant sauces, but after the hairs and service I will not be going back and cannot recommend it to others.

The worst customer service, I have been here twice, both time I received very poor customer service. The food is great, this is the only reason I bring my family here, because of food. Unfortunately Bamiyam restaurant have only one server. The owner needs to hire more servers

We've been going to Bamiyan for quite a few years. We returned for my wife's birthday and we were horribly disappointed, so much so that I can't really imagine returning. The service was quite slow. In fact a couple that came in after us left just before their food arrived, and we had not received ours yet. My meat was tiny little portions and was over cooked. We love the eggplant but the portions are now very small. The beer and wine selection is abysmal. This place used to be very good and I guess it is possible that they haven't been able to get back to their previous quality since the pandemic, but I am not willing to pay their prices for this. I got the impression that the staff was trying to make the best of a bad situation. They seemed to have enough servers but I am guessing that they are very short staffed in the kitchen.

Expensive! Overcharged for 4 appetizers for 2 served. Double-charged for extra items that were supposed to be included in the dish. What little food was there, was watered down that a fork could not hold, and spoons were not provided until asked for. Poor service.

Don't waste your money, bad food unreasonable price. Watch out the bill and menu price. Kabuli Pulao is just the plain rice with raisin. They charge separately for the meat.

First time here. Amazing experience. Obviously off hours so the quiet peaceful dining Ambience was a real treat. Excellent and amazing food. I had the Afghan meatballs with spectacular rice and potatoes. The pudding for dessert with pistachios on top was also truly excellent. This restaurant is very clean and carries a lot of class. Bathrooms were very nice. Convenient location in El Dorado Hills. Parking may be challenging during busy times. Definitely enjoyed the food and overall experience and we'll plan on visiting again one day. Highly recommended.

Very nice restaurant with excellent customer service, delicious food, ambiance, and nice decor. The owners Nangela and Mussa were very hospitable. They explained the Saffron farm which they sponsor in Afghanistan called @Silk Road Saffron. Reasonably priced and organic. Will definitely go back when I return to Sacramento and try their other dishes. Highly recommend😊

Bamiyan Afghan restaurant wasn’t as good as I’d hoped it would be. It’s been a few years since I was there last. This time was on a Monday after calling at 7pm to see if I bring my 11 pound dog LuLu. Yes this is a dog friendly establishment so plus 1⭐️. Our party of four were the only customers on this pleasantly cool June evening. Waiter was pleasant but service was subpar since he didn’t return to check on us after our food arrived. If he’d returned we would have ordered more beers! I don’t recall having our water glass refilled. Food is spicy 🌶️ which pleased me but not my wife who ordered Saffron Shrimp. I had the Combination Shish Kebab and we both had Kabeli Palow Rice and Sautéed Spinach. Rice was delicious. My daughter and her boyfriend each had the Vegetarian Platter Dinner. She like the spicy 🌶️ flavor but her boyfriend didn’t comment but the look on his face told me he wasn’t a fan. My Shish Kabab was dry and would have benefited from a sauce or something similar. My daughter raved about her food and she’d rate it 5⭐️. My wife would say 2⭐️. Since I’m writing so my 3⭐️ prevails. When leaving we noticed a change of ownership notice taped to the front glass. It was dated April 2023. So it appears the new crew has some rough spots to correct.

A friend and I wanted something different for lunch, so chose Bamiyan. The server was pleasant and non-intrusive. He took our order and gave us space and time to enjoy our meal and visit. I started with the chai tea, which was delicious. It was spicy and creamy, and the perfect temperature. We enjoyed the hummus appetizer. The hummus itself had a great taste. I would have preferred toasted or grilled pita to accompany it, rather than the thin tortilla wedges. But the hummus was delicious. We ordered their soup, which had a wonderful flavor. My friend enjoyed grilled Chicken kabobs, with saffron rice and eggplant. The chicken was juicy and had a good flavor. The saffron rice was delicious and the eggplant had an interesting and tasty blackened skin, which was a wonderful complement to the creamy texture of the eggplant. I ordered a saffron rice dish with cinnamon carrots and raisins. It was quite good. Overall, the atmosphere was nice, the restaurant was clean and the food was quite good. This is a great option for lunch or dinner.

Was a bit worried about the food quality being as good as it was with the previous owners but the new owner's food quality did not disappoint. The food was absolutely superb. We love this place and think it is the best tasting food in EDH (IMHO).

My family eats here regularly. The food is absolutely delicious and clearly prepared with love, the restaurant itself is gorgeously decorated with hand-woven carpet from Afghanistan, and the owners are absolutely lovely people! Try the eggplant and their homemade iced teas... You won't regret it!!!

We ordered eggplant and bolani for appetizers (bolani was ok, eggplant was extremely oily). We ordered the mixed grill and qabli pilaw for dinner. Both were not good at all. The mixed grill was very dry and extremely small portions. The qabli pilaw (lamb) didn’t come with the bone but rather with small pieces of meat with a tomatoes sauce and veggies. The rice was ok but the carrots on top looked weird and the color was brownish. I have eaten at hundreds of afghani places before. This is by far the worse.

I had the goat stew with Saffron rice and cauliflower with a side of their special hummus. I was not really impressed with the food. The goat was cooked to a sad grey surrender with a watery tomato gravey. The cauliflower was watery as well, and the Saffron rice was the best part. The bread they gave me with the hummus was cut up tortillas, which I don't think they have in Afghanistan, but hey, I could be wrong.

I really love this restaurant and while it's been a while since I visited, it's lost none of its charm. Great food and friendly, helpful service. Getting Afghan food is a real treat as it brings together West Asian and South Asian cuisines in a nuanced way, creating subtle flavors and textures that are an absolute delight.

We didn't really like the service. The food was ok but the eggplant was raw. We paid one dollar for each bread in the photo. They were not fresh!

This restaurant is a treasure of the area. Not only is it one of very few Afghani restaurants in the area, it's quality of food is unmatched. Each dish feels authentic and offers you a slice of what you've been missing out on your entire life, something special.

We ordered lamb and minced beef kabob as appetizers as well as rice, meat balls and egg plant dish. Lamb and meat balls were really good and rest were ok. Very small portion of rice and egg plant for the price. Ambience is good, service was satisfactory and place is clean with a good selection of wines - we carried our own.

The food was delicious, well-portioned and we got it very quickly! I was worried when I read some of the reviews, but we decided to try it and I’m so glad we did! The pumpkin purée and little dumplings were definitely the highlight. So good together!

Really great food. I had the morg chalow which was sautéed chicken served with saffron rice and eggplant. It was excellent and really flavorful. The eggplant was tender and stood out as the best part of a very good plate. Seemed like most in our party of 7 were happy with what they ordered except for one who ordered Ashak which is the boiled dumplings. I think this was just personal preference and they seemed to enjoy the food that was shared with them from others plates. Ambiance was nice and I really enjoyed the music that they played. Service was friendly but a bit slow.
