This hole in the wall has been around for so many years and the location is perfectly centered in Downtown. Tried the brisket nachos, they were so good we ordered another one! The onion rings were pretty good too! We showed up around 5 on a Fri and they were pretty busy with maybe 2 tables open but bar seating was available. They have a pool table and tvs with movies on. They were playing classic rock, Selena, and Norteña music. Service was good and beers were cold. Parked metered parking which is free after 6 pm. Will definitely be going back!

My husband go in there last weekend. They just finished throwing people out due to public intoxication. My husband and I just sit down at the bar to start ordering some bar nachos and a round of drinks and the rude waitress there yells at my husband that she will not serve him because he is drunk. It was loud in there so we thought we weren't hearing her correctly. But it was definitely what we thought, she was refusing to serve us claiming we had already drank too much and we just got there(sober mind you). I start fuming and call over another waitress shocked at this woman's audacity. They begin to take my order then continue to ignore us and refuse to serve us anything after several attempts to waive down all the staff. We will never be going back to that dump, solely on their staff.

Best nachos??? They had bland brisket with shredded cheese, no flavor, nothing special. Seems like its only regulars and friends/ family that go. Smells like urine, trash cans were being taken out the front door, TVs were not working. Limited bar. Overrated!

Tourist/Out of Town Review: The food is good. The bathrooms are clean. There is a really weird odor, and I'm not sure what it is. Beers are cheap. Mixed drinks are meh. This place is kind of like an adventure. However, the neighborhood is definitely sketch.

Home of the best nachos in Texas! Was pretty tasty although I don’t think I have enough nachos experience to be the judge of this. The vibe is nice and the music was good. Great service!

It's a dive bar with decent food. Liquor is poured generously, and beer comes in bottles or cans. Everyone talks about the nachos, which are decent but not legendary. I went on a night when they had Mixx Band, a soul trio, play. It was a great night out. It's an El Paso staple. But it's also a spot where the benches are broken, condensation drips from the AC vents, and weekends are so busy their staff is overwhelmed and the place is deafening. If that's your vibe, you'll love it.

It's okay. It's pretty sketchy, I would definitely not feel safe going there unless with a large group or at least a few men. Clientele definitely had a higher amount of hobos than most bars would want. The bathrooms are very gross, even as compared to most dive bars. The staff was working very hard! They were open past 10PM on a weeknight which is rare at this time.

A solid shotgun style dive bar in downtown with vintage vibes. Lots of bartenders made getting a drink easy. Flautas we’re good, definitely restaurant quality. There was a funky smell that was a little off putting. Bonus points for the Mother Mary shrine. I would return and recommend.

I heard this was a must if you are in El Paso so I figured "why not." I was in around 6:30 p.m. on a Tuesday. I get it that my timing may have missed the good vibes, so take my experience for what it is. Regardless, I tried the chicken nachos since nachos are one of the items that i was told they are known for. Ummm, major disappointment. The two young ladies working the bar were more interested in talking to each other than any of the customers. The atmosphere was kinda cool. I believe it is probably pretty fun on a weekend night.

This has the best queso fries! Just best dive bar food in town. Always an EP favorite little spot.

  • 5/5 Ricky M. 2 years ago on Google
Best kept secret in El Paso. Super divey spot with great food and real service. Definitely not for the timid tourist. Don’t be picky on the menu and just do yourself a favor and order the nachos.

  • 5/5 Michael F. 2 years ago on Google
Nachos were the best! Great dive bar atmosphere! The lady working the bar is so friendly and makes you feel like home!

Masking effectively optional. An MUST for any body in or visiting El Paso. If Chicos was a bar, it would be the Tap. All sorts of people come to this place. Lawyers & Judges (it's next the Courthouse), Anglo oil fielders (it's near the El Paso Del Norte), Bumms (all over downtown & greyhound a few blocks away), and of course hipsters that love the Sucia bars. Food is a bit pricey! Pool table effectively inoperable. Peeps awesome and drinks reasonably priced. Stop reading this and start drinking here!

  • 5/5 Bryan O. 2 years ago on Google
The atmosphere was really nice, the drinks were great, and the food was phenomenal. My only complaint really was their pricing on certain things; it just seemed a little odd that an Irish carbomb was about the same price as a paleta. Whatever works to get people to come back, though, and I most certainly will be doing so.

Such a great El Paso staple ! We went on a whim yesterday night because we were DYING for their delicious nachos! The bartender informed us that the kitchen had already closed for the night but Jose was so gracious to go back and cook us up some nachos on the fly! Great customer service! They reminded us of the reason we stayed in El Paso for 20+ years, the people are so caring and genuine. We are always happy when we can make it downtown for a drink and the best nachos in town! Had a very yummy margarita and witnessed the bartender make a very yummy looking drink with tequila rose that I will have to try on my next visit!

The environment was chill. Mixed drinks where good, reasonable prices. Good service. It is a very crowded, it is not wide enough but it is a really long space, specially the bathrooms, and very outdated. Other than that a pretty good place to hang out.

  • 5/5 M J. 2 years ago on Google
This place is a El Paso Staple it’s a little run down but the food is amazing the service is always great it’s a dive bar yes! Good food tho I recommend the nachos or menudo if you dare try.

Honestly I haven't been here in years. So this review might fall on def ears, but when I came here. I swear to you this place had the best Bacon Chesse Burger 🍔 I've ever had. If and when I ever visit El Paso again. I'm coming back to have another one. Hopefully the recpe hasn't changed, it probably has and my review will change with it. But until then I give this place 5 stars because of that.

Just went to wait for a friend and ate the brisket nachos but they weren't that good. Not sure I'd go on my own though.

  • 4/5 Saul M. 2 years ago on Google
Nachos used to be the best now they are average and you must pay for all the add ons. Lots of beers were sold out and service was spotty at best. Will not go back for awhile.

  • 3/5 - C. 1 year ago on Google
Agreed with other reviewer. Smells faintly like a dirty bathroom. Yuck. Food was good. Tepequena steak was okay wouldn't get that again. Vampire drink was good. Helpful staff. Don't think I'll be back unless they start using different cleaner.... Update: smelled better but waitress with glasses was rude. We were ordering our food with her and she was tapping her long fingernails on our table impatiently as we ordered. Just very unhelpful. Floors were dirty too.

  • 2/5 Luis M L. 1 year ago on Google
I went for there for the first time at lunch. It was somewhat busy, but not packed. There were 6 of us. The waiter did his best, but he was really having trouble and was blaming the kitchen. When we got our food half the orders were wrong and the food was very average at best. Not a place I'd recommend for eating. There are plenty of places with much better food. Maybe to go have some adult beverages tho?

With a name like this I expected decent beer, not one good option. Terrible beer selection seems to be the norm in in El Paso, but some places do at least try . Food was good but had to wash it down with water.

The Tap Bar takes you back to the time that a person would walk in to a bar and be treated as a regular customer. Friendly environment, good tasting Nachos and delicious shrimp cocktail on a hot Sunday afternoon.

This was my first time at The Tap. It's deep downtown and is dim lighting and intimate. The beer 🍻 was super cold and the food was amazing I ordered the nachos with chicken.. Very large and affordable. The chips and salsa were on point too 💙

  • 2/5 E.M.H. 1 year ago on Google
The food was decent but I wasn't too impressed with the service or the atmosphere. The waitress was lacking in her knowledge of local beers and refused to split the bill when graciously asked and insisted on combining it (a bit inconvenient and what modern place doesn't split the bill when asked). The place itself is a typical dive bar, very dark inside. It was stifling hot inside as well which made it uncomfortable. It was okay to visit once, but I probably won't be back for a second visit.

  • 5/5 Yadira T. 1 year ago on Google
I was very surprised by how delicious the food was. We were actually looking for another restaurant and we stumbled upon this place and at first glimpse it looks like a old man bar but we were hungry and we were pleasantly surprised. Service wasn't the best, but the food made up for it. Inexpensive.

Some of the best nachos I've ever had, with awesome drinks. They had 5 dollar cucumber shots and we got blasted. Only issue was the jukebox didn't play the music we paid for, but I get that the place has to keep a certain vibe at certain hours. Feels a little exploitive to take our money during those hours though. Regardless, great experience and I would definitely go again!

  • 2/5 Rebecca R. 1 year ago on Google
We walked in at 840pm only to be told by the bartender that the kitchen was closed already. We still sat down had drinks, a little while later I asked her at what time the kitchen closed she said 9pm. Not sure why they would refuse to serve food when they still have 20 min when in all reality the place doesn’t close till 10pm.

It's a dive bar so don't expect a lot from the interior as far as decor. The food is why you come here! It's just good, fresh Mexican standards and they are as delicious as it gets. There's always a story and always a good time when you come to the Tap.

The service was good can’t complain, but for whoever rated there nachos the best has not had them elsewhere, the price was ridiculous $17.00 dollars just cause it had a a half avocado really how much was that piece Of avocado-I make better nachos than that seriously

It’s a classic bran in the area, but lacks better environment. The have good nachos and good portion size but truly overpriced. Inside smells like humidity. Music is not that great but have live music from time to time, that’s when it’s worth visiting.

If you’re meek move on...this place is old school. Be prepared to be in a dark, little musty bar with a group of regulars that is right out of good fellows. If you want a place after 15 min you are shaking hands with Mike and Mark, where you are talking music and football with plenty of high fives and hands on the shoulder this is your place. So back to if you’re meek, get over it and come on...you’re social skills will grow and you’ll enjoy it.

I ordered entomatadas (exactly like enchiladas, but the sauce is purely tomato, instead), but their sauce was made from canned pasta sauce. Not only was it NOT an interesting twist, but it was pretty horrible tasting.
