Astounding place. Displays are excellent. Explanations are fantastic. Pottery is wonderful. They have a one hour movie that was fantastic. Staff was at a meeting so Mary the security guard helped us, started the movie and let us buy hats when the store was closed. She was super helpful. The state of Texas has built a freeway absolutely blocking the entrance to this museum with no way to enter or exit if you are coming to El Paso or trying to go north when you exit. Inexcusable to not provide an ingress and egress.

Perfect size for a quick visit yet big enough to spend time lingering and reading. Very friendly staff and nice gift shop. Loads of parking. Free to get into museum and you can donate if you want to support their efforts. Large clean bathrooms.

Attended the Poppies Festival 2023 and participated in the Water Color Painting event hosted by Artists on behalf of La Frontera Land Alliance. Great to be out and about after three years of the Pandemic

Small museum, but very informative for the El Paso area. This museum focuses on the indigenous people that lived in the surrounding area from the end of the ice age, through to the Spanish settlers. I give it five stars for effort, their dioramas, and the hiking trails.

The El Paso Museum of Archaeology is a small but has nicely done exhibits from the prehistory to almost present day, of the area surrounding El Paso, Texas. The museum is located in Wilderness Park, at the base of the Franklin Mountains. The museum was opened in 1977 and has been well kept with very interesting artefacts opening a nice window into the native culture of the area. With a nice atmosphere it is a great place to see and learn about the inhabitants of the area, their way of life and art. The museum has many nice displays with interesting information for young and adult. A nice place to visit, specially during blooming of the Mexican Poppies.

The El Paso Museum of Archaeology is small museum situated in a wilderness park of the Northeast of El Paso. The museum was founded in 1977 in a site were number of archaeological sites in the area have been found. The museum offers a great collection of artifacts which focus on the prehistory and culture of El Paso area and the Southwest. Their exhibitions are very educational as well as conferences open to the public. In the Spring the museum has a festival of the Yellow Poppy. there is also a free archery classes every Saturday. And finally, I really enjoy the walk nature trails on their 15 acres with more than 250 varieties of Chihuahua Desert native plants.

It is a small nice museum with beautiful pottery collection, weapons, clothing, jewelry and sculptures of the local tribes. Life-size dioramas show what life was like many centuries ago. There is no fee. Donations welcomed. The staff was helpful and knowledgeable. They also have a nice small gift shop. Nice place to visit with children, I think they'll love it. Worth to visit!

Another hidden gem! Finding things to do, we stumbled upon this wonderful museum. A step back in time of indigenous cultures. A beautiful tribute to the original Americans. Accepts donations and a great gift shop!

You can finish the tour in about ten minutes. But it it entertaining, and informative about parts of history of El Paso. There's a TV room where occasionally they'll show a movie, there's a small adobe house that you can touch. Also lots of pottery and pictures, and a gift shop to remember the experience. Outside there's a trail with plants and there names. Pretty great to be when you get a chance. People were nice.

A beautiful space to visit and walk about outside. A lot of nature to see and the desert shines in this location. Once it reopens, I would recommend going inside and taking the time to read all the signs. There is so much to learn here.

Free. I don’t know how anyone can complain about a free museum that has so many exhibits, and items on loan from other museums as well. The parking was more than adequate for my own very large vehicle and even a couple pulling a 30’ trailer. Lot was clean, had a little garden, trails, blooming flowers, little birds nesting and all sorts of fun to be had. The exhibits range from inclosed glass cases to full on shelters ranging from the lithic period to more modern adobe examples used used by indigenous peoples right up to today. Lots of their baskets, beads, tools, weapons, art, etc. Bathrooms are super clean to an impressive level. Staff is very helpful and friendly. While it’s free, donations are excepted, although, there not gonna state at you until you give lol, their way to laidback for such things. Very cool place, traditional music in the background, I have lots of photos, but go see it, better experienced in real life than on a screen kinda thing. Bring someone with you.

As a first-time out of state visitor, I was uniquely impressed with all the exhibits and the archeological and historical displays. There was no entrance fee, but donations were accepted. Overall, I had a great time along with visiting the El Paso National Border Patrol Museum that was next door.

Went to take pictures and considering it's Desert it's well kept.

  • 5/5 Crystal J. 4 years ago on Google
The interior consists of life sized dioramas which show how different peoples loved in the harsh conditions of the Chihuahuan desert. The museum makes a point of fairly representing the larger groups in the area. On the opposite side is a room with an interior conference room but the conference room has displays along the back with drawers filled artifacts and explanations. The outer portion of the great room has Meso-American artifacts. The staff are approachable, knowledgeable but allow you to chose whether you want to ask questions or silently absorb the displays in your own way. By the way be sure to walk the garden path outside as well. It’s also with the time.

Small but likeable. Located conveniently if you are going out of town over the mountain. A good introduction to area ancient history. God price too... Free!

Not the biggest or most comprehensive museum, but we spent a few hours there very pleasurably.

  • 5/5 TAWAN P. 2 years ago on Google
Awesome! They need better advertising. There is so much to see and do in here. The adventure starts outside with walking trails and samples of the plants in the area. It is more exciting than I can describe... watch the Googlemaps videos. It is ADA compliant so you can bring your grandparents and your grandchildren. Go early so you can see all of the exhibits... there are many examples of Native American culture also.

This is a very nice small museum. Excellently done exhibits. They have a large amount of pottery from an extended time period. The dioramas are very informative and seem well done. There is a path around the building and out into surrounding area. I did not take it as it was very hot. Not sure what it consisted of.

Nice little museum. Free entry but, they accept donations. The outdoor nature walk area is also nice. It was a great little time killer to take the kids on since they were getting stir crazy in the house.

  • 5/5 Frank R. 1 year ago on Google
Admission is free and the museum has nice static displays with a wealth of historical information and artifacts. From the exterior the building appears small and unassuming but I recommend stopping by and visit. Even before you enter the building you the grounds are well maintained with regional plant life and interesting walking trails.

Took a group out to look for flowers and different types of grass weeds. They have an amazing view of the mountains and a lot of different plant and flower species. It's a must do in El Paso. The museum is great with a nice quaint gift shop so you can take plenty of stuff for all ages.

Nice place. Good to be out in nature. Walked the paths for poppy fest. Not many poppies, but it was nice finding the ones that were there. Museum is a nice look back at the history of the local desert and it's inhabitants. Lots of souvenirs and snacks at the museum shop.

Free cute little museum with lots of info. Spoke to the director as well and he was very informative. Seems like a good place to take kids. A wide range of artifacts and information on the Indigenous people that inhabited this landscape!

This museum is so wonderful! The staff is so nice and if you have the time to read about everything in there, it is really a fantastic experience. Admission is free but donations are welcome and for such a wonderful museum it's definitely worth the donation :)

I used to take my Daughter's & I took my Granddaughter's 5 & 7 years old for the 1st time. They loved it. Especially, the homemade toys that the Indians made for their Children. And of course, they loved the gift shop. The stuffed toys are only $14.99. At the zoo, they are $30. Plus they have books that aren't expensive, and snacks that are reasonably priced. I got great pics of them outside among the cactuses, too.

We saw the sign on the way home from the Painted Dunes golf course. We decided to stop and we are so glad we did. Do not be received by the small building. It is packed with historical items from this area of Texas. It was well displayed and documented. My personal favorite was the room dedicated to Hispanic festivals and the masks used in them. The docent was friendly and made us welcome. Best of all it's free.
