This is a cool spot to hike to in the northern mountain "self-guided" area of Hueco Tanks. It's a moderately challenging area to get to, partly because the provided directions aren't the easiest to follow (and I have a feeling that may be by design). It's a 20-30 minute walk to the cave, with plenty of steep "trail", but very minor climbing required. By climbing, I mean one spot where you need to get down on all fours for balance; no actual rock/mountain climbing required.

No brainer, big five star, period. But please be noted that the park control the number of visitors, hence either you visit it before lunch, or you have to be waitlisted. Luckily, after waiting for 30mins, I got my permission of entry !!! This is the place you don't just walk and hike, you will need to CLIMB, so get your energy bars with you 😜. The landscape is fantastic, and the way sunset is presented here, amazing, worth for you to stay here till around 5pm, and sit on the rocks with quality time between you and the sun.

Great outdoor experience for kids and adults. We spend around 3 hrs hiking and exloring, we didn't follow the trail and explore by ourselves. Great adventure

Get away from the rat race. Quite, peaceful, interesting. I was able to hike to the end of the trail sat on the overhang and listened to no man made noise.....rare air

Never could find... the rocks and some rock art was cool. Wish there were better directions and signage.

The cave itself gets 5 stars. The map to get there takes away stars. It took a lot of searching to.find the cave itself, but it was so worth the time. Overall, we enjoyed the self guided portion of the park, and had a great picnic.

As far as caves go, it isn't very big and there isn't much exploration. However, it does open up nicely after a little crawl in, and the cave paintings on the inside are very cool to see. Overall a great place to lay back and enjoy the cool surface of the rocks away from the sun.

I am stationed nearby and had never heard of this park until my family was bored looking for something to do. When this park came up, I figured it would be something fun for the whole family to include our dogs. We arrived and had to wait until a car left before we could enter (there is a park limit that the park staff hold strong to). After getting the green light to enter, we had to go to the welcome center for a rules brief and video. After about an hour, we were finally able to enjoy the park as long as we followed the park rules. If you are planning a trip, leave the dogs at home. Dogs are only authorized in a tiny part of the park. The main thing to bring is patience as the park staff are everywhere and will limit where and when you go places. For instance, my family wanted to go to a certain section of the park but the staff had the road blocked until some of the other guests left. While the park staff would have annoyed me when I was much younger, I wasn’t in a hurry and we just focused on enjoying the park. As far as the park itself, it is really a great little place with a lot of history. Highly recommend visiting it. However, I recommend scheduling a guided tour since visitors only have access to around 1/3 of the park without a guide.
