My grandson Brian has given this playground an A++. It has a canopy over the whole kids playing area. Hes 2 and really enjoyed the slides especially since it was hot that day and the whole thing is in the shade and really well placed on a hill. This is the kind of park you can get away with not bringing extra toys , balls or other things to entertain your kids. You can play with them or just sit on the outer edge of the play area and take care of a call while you're still able to watch them. Anyway, Brian says 'Park fun'....

Just discovered this park and love it! It's really cool! Lots of different things to do and great shade! No bathrooms. Near road but not too busy. Great park overall and clean.

John R. Karr Park is so much fun! There are two different climbing walls, three slides, four different ladders, four swings (one infant, two traditional,  and one chair), and other features as well. It's a unique playground that you won't find elsewhere AND no sand or woodchips (well, woodchips where the swings are). It's all rubber! Lots of shade, too. 👍🏻 My 4.5 year old was delighted with this place and Mom liked the cement seating area that surrounds the place. No bathrooms in sight and no picnic tables but this would be a great place to play after shopping downtown (or while waiting for someone shopping downtown 😉).

Nice little park. However, Students from UTEP always have all the parking taken on class days so that is an issue. The rest of the nearby parking is Blue Tag only and the meter reader / ticket guys patrol regularly. Sad....

Super dirty playground, has a sketchy feel to it. I came to the park with my toddler one Sunday morning and a homeless couple was sleeping underneath the playground. This park really needs some upkeep.

The park is small, but has a large playground area that is mostly shaded. There is adequate seating and the park has a design which is engaging for both younger and older children. It is accessible by bus and has a fair amount of street side parking areas available considering the historic nature of the neighborhood. The only downside is that the park is located at the intersection of three streets (Upson, Stewart, and Los Angeles) so it is necessary to be perpetually vigilant (a good policy in any public situation) to avoid children possibly running into traffic. It is also fairly hilly and as a result may be less accommodating for people with mobility issues.
