What a gem! Super cool area tucked into a residential area. We visited close to sunset on a Sunday and the top of the rock was speckled with small groups enjoying the view. And what a view! Perfect view of the SF skyline and the Bay and Golden Gate Bridges. There are steps carved most of the way up and down and lots of folks climbing and scrambling everywhere else. Great for all ages!

Beautiful and amazing. ❤️ Please be careful when going up the rock steps but when you get to the top it is breathtaking to see Berkeley, Oakland, San Francisco, the famous SF bridge, so much all in one place. Up there I was totally high on life feeling hopeful and grateful, grounded in the present and looking to the future. Please check it out and for the sake of this beautiful rock if you see any trash or garbage pick it up and toss in the near by bins. I had a chance to do that and immediately felt a connection with this special rock and Mother Earth. Together we can 💪❤️💪

My biking/hiking buddy called and asked if I wanted to go on a hike or bike ride--I told her I really wanted to visit Indian Rock. We had ridden by Indian Rock on our bikes many times before and I was impressed with it's beauty and popularity even while surrounded by homes. We ended up hiking from her home in Albany.  We hiked through 2 small parks on the way up the hill. John Hinkel Park was a sweet surprise that we walked through--I want to go back there shortly after it rains to see the waterfalls. We also climbed up Mortar Rock on our trek to Indian Rock. I want to recommend parking at the base of the hill and take many of the paths through the neighborhoods. Parking can be a problem at Indian Rock. Another benefit of parking at the base of the hill and walking up is the aerobic exercise. My friend measured that we had walked 20 flights of stairs on our hike. I would recommend wearing comfortable shoes that don't slip. There are steps carved into Indian Rock which makes it a pretty easy climb. If you plan on sitting on the top of the Rock for a while--I highly recommend bringing water. If it's a sunny day bring a hat, and if it is foggy or windy wear layers. For me, this is an amazing nature experience (but in a neighborhood)! It is very grounding to be there. You can easily go into a meditative state, or enjoy one of the most spectacular views in the Bay Area.

Great view of downtown San Francisco and downtown Oakland. The view is pretty accessible for most able bodied people. You can also see the Bay Bridge, Alcatraz, The Golden Gate Bridge, and Sausalito. Visit on a clear day

Short walk and beautiful view from the top of the rock. For some it might be a little hard to get up on the rock but it does have a somewhat of a stair way up. I love going at night. Last time we visited we found a lot of garbage, we brought some back with us but it would be nice for people to take their garbage with them and keep the area clean.

Great views, very easy to get to, and a fine geologic location for kids to burn off too much screen time at...

Unexpected among the busy town is this beautiful place! I could've stayed on top of this formation all day. Very interesting history.

I’m sorry but this spot is not all it’s cracked up to be. 😂 I did better by continuing to drive on up into the neighborhood hills for a view of the Bay and bridges

This is a tiny park with a big round rock in the middle. You walk up over some stairs hewn into the rock and sit on the top. It's popular as a picnic spot in the evening, sitting on the warm rock and watching the sun set over the bay. The walk up from Solano is short and via a pleasant uphill path that cuts through manicured gardens. Get your sandwiches and ice cream on Solano Ave, walk up the hill and enjoy the view. Priceless.

Beautiful views of the Bay, Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco skyline. Might be a good spot for a picnic. Last time I went there it was packed with people, all of which seemed to be having a great time just hanging out soaking in the view and the sunshine.

Best place to boulder in Berkeley, get on the traverse and climb hard. Also great views of the city day or night! 🌃 No restrooms here so pee beforehand or you can try and find a porttapotty in the surrounding neighborhoods.

I can't get enough of this rock! I love the opportunity to hone my rock climbing skills. The community of individuals whom frequent the rock are absolutely phenomenal. The view of the San Francisco Bay is gorgeous. Highly, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Great view! On the weekends it can be quite a busy place. Kids just love to play and climb here. There are also more smaller rocks further up the hill.

I usually come to watch the sunsets, but my kids love crawling and climbing the rocks. The view is perfect with the sun setting close to the bridge during fall/winter seasons. It gets crowded, but nothing to complain about. Just make sure to watch your kids and not have them throw anything from the top because other people are bouldering down below.

Great spot for clattering up on the rocks with a nice view of SF on a clear day. Garbage cans were a bit full/unattended to. Interesting to hear from a local about the Eucalyptus trees planted around the area and recent efforts to remove these non-native species.

Very nice even at night , however it was crowded .

There are "steps" for non-climbers who would like to get a nice of the bay. Great for meditation, or a simple lunch.. or just a stop to take a breath. Parking is bit tough.. tight small streets in a residential neighborhood.

Beautiful view of the Bay Area! Fun to hike up the rock and hang out with everyone else taking in the amazing scenery!

  • 5/5 Subhangi S. 4 years ago on Google
Great view of the Bay, SF, Oakland. Climbing up is fun, and would recommend visiting during sunset hours. It looks like a secluded place in the middle of a residential area. You might have to wait and roam around to find street parking.

Nice little Rock Park in Arlington, Berkeley. Good for sunset photography and city view. You can look at city, goldengatebridge and seaview. Also it's so fun climbing the rock around but still little small but the view from here is amazing.

  • 5/5 Zoe R. 4 years ago on Google
Pretty views of the city and bay when it's clear. Steps in the rock make getting up less challenging (my 68 y.o. parents were able to get up and down at dusk with low visibility). Some ppl like to practice bouldering here, too.

One star off for sheet parental fear as your kid scales a rock with no safety equipment whatsoever. Otherwise, fantastic views. Keep in mind, loads of college aged kids seemingly omnipresent at all times of day.

  • 4/5 Chris E. 4 years ago on Google
Nice rock! Small park but fairly forresty for all that. On a hill: no place for croquet or other flat sports. Stairs and trails.
